The Cubs will try to salvage the final game of an unfortunate series with the White Sox. The Cubs get Jake Peavy, who’s been flapping his gums, but who’s also been pretty darn good this year. They counter with Paul Maholm, who’s cooled off a bit after a ridiculously hot stretch.

Kosuke Fukudome starts in right field for the White Sox in his return to Wrigley Field, and I imagine he’ll be received warmly, if unenthusiastically.

Adrian Cardenas draws a start at second base, making for seven lefty bats (Koyie Hill switch hits) in the lineup against Peavy.

Did Blake Lalli die or something?

    • Njriv

yeah, I hesitate to articulate in fear I may deviate upon the highest degree of accuracy.

  • Cubbie fan lost in Atlanta

At least Cardenas gets another start. Hip hip, Hooray.

    • Mrp

Yep, very happy to see him out there today.

  • King Jeff

This has been a bad homestand coming off of a few impressive series in a row. It would be huge if good Maholm shows up today and some bats come alive. This team needs a win and some stability.

  • Dave

Saying Koyie Hill switch hits seems a bit generous. Should say something to the effect of ‘Koyie Hill flails the bat spastically from both sides of the plate’.

    Hey Brett,
Thanks for letting me know that the game was on CSN as well as WGN. I watched the first inning and 2/3 with Stone and Harrelson. I am not a big Len Kasper (sp.) fan, but thank god I don’t have to listen to Hawk Harrelson anymore!

    • Iceman

Just noticed that and thankfully I am now able to turn the sound back on!

I like kasper and brenly just fine. I consider us lucky.

Go Cubs.. hopeful for a possible comeback.. ill keep my fingers crossed

  • Luke D

Nice play by Cardenas, or as the Sox people are calling him, “Cardinis.”

  • Bill

Theo should be very proud, job well done. Way to lay down, don’t even suggest we couldn’t be anymore competitive than this?

    • Cubs1967

the goal for 2012 was to save money; which they are now with woody retired; that’s 42M less than when tommyboy took over and to shoot for the #1 draft pick; which they are only 1 game out………………………………

Agreed, I won’t watch this team again until the kids are up. I can pretty much guess what retreads like johnson, baker, hill, are gonna do before they even do it. This team gives me no reason to watch. same ol shit every day, no hitting, no confident pitching out of the bullpen. It must be hard as hell as a cubs starter to know you are gonna give it your all and have a little league offense behind you. Its hard knowing you have to be damn near perfect everytime you take the mound because its pretty much a lock your offense will struggle to score more than three runs for ya.
