The Cubs’ losing streak has reached eight, and Dale Sveum is getting the hell outta here. Actually, he’s just attending his son’s graduation, but I’m sure he won’t hate the day away from the tumult. Jamie Quirk will handle the managerial duties tonight, in the place where he most recently coached before coming to the Cubs (Houston, that is).

Jeff Samardzija will try to play stopper tonight, but no matter how well he pitches, he’s going to need at least one run of support. Two or three would be even better. Maybe even before the 9th inning!

The Astros counter with Wandy Rodriguez, who’s having himself a resurgent, excellent year. Maybe that means the Cubs will blast off, given the caliber of pitchers who’ve been dominating them lately.

Tonight’s lineup is a carbon copy of last night’s mostly-righty affair, with only Koyie Hill and Jeff Samardzija as changes.

What an awful lineup. Automatic nine in a row.

    • Joepoe123

Anthony rizzo went 2-4 today with 1 rbi and another HR!
Josh Vitters 3-4 with a double and an RBI!
      Brett jackson 1-4 with 2 K’s :(
Brooks Raley pitches his Iowa debut pitching 5 innings giving up 6 hits 5 runs(3 earned) 3 BB and 5 K’s decent debut, however he was charged the loss as the I-Cubs loose 8-3 :(

  • Tonycampanathebasethief

    No campana wtf!?!?!

  • Drew7

That lineup…I honestly just threw up in my mouth

  • HoustonTransplant

Gah, I can’t believe I have the pleasure of seeing that shit-ass line up in PERSON. Yay.

BTW, the only Cubs stuff I have available to wear tonight is a Sosa jersey (other jersey’s dirty). Not sure if that’s something I would want to wear or not…thoughts?

    • Cubs Dude

I realize a lefty is pitching for the Stros. But your gonna sit LaHair out again? WTF?? This lineup looks like a Pirates lineup from a couple years ago. Scrubs everywhere besides, Castro.

      • HoustonTransplant

Concur. It’ll be tough being a Cubs fan tonight. I guess that’s what happens when you have such significant lack of talent that you HAVE to play match-ups day in and day out. God forbid we have a team that can hit pitchers from BOTH sides of the mound. Woah…

    • Edwin

Sosa is one of the greatest Cubs ever. I’d totally wear it.

    • al

Take that Sosa jersey to the park and give it to a kid too young to know who he is.

    • rcleven

Your in Houston where Sorris jersey with pride.

Nobody in the stadium to see ya anyway.

  • Deer

Can we get a no-hitter alert thread going later this evening?

  • Stu

What difference does it make who plays? We are designed to not win for the next few years.

We have been sold the idea that winning now is for fans who don’t “get it”. I mean W/L is so 20th century. It is about the spreadsheet, the sabermetrics, the inside the game nuances…..

Just winning? That’s for the less sophisticated folk….

  • EQ76

Just watch Koyie Hill go 3-4 with an HR tonight..

    • rcleven

Then wake up and realize its all a dream.

  • ari gold

That line-up is just awful. Good luck Shark!

  • Cerambam

Id Definitly wear it man, I know Sosa left a bad taste, but he was our guy our slammin Sammy for so long, I’m a pretty young Cubs fan at 20 years old and I’ll always have a sweet spot for Sammy, he got me into baseball and even more importantly, the cubs

    Edit: ^ @houstontransplant

  • John Moore

So now the “other team” dictates our line-up. It NEVER works!!!!!

  • K Rock

the only way to wear a Sosa jersey now, its to bleach it to a lighter color

    • bwitty75

  • calicubsfan007

I am guilty of also having a Sosa jersey, just take the advice someone gave on one of the other threads about having a Prior jersey. I think I just went blind from looking at that lineup, phew! But we will have an awesome lineup in a couple of years.

  • Spencer

    This is an embarrassing team.

  • Eric

Another loss please. I want the salivate over the #1 pick in 2013. No point doing anything but rooting for the #1 pick at this point. We know this team will suck all year, but let’s get a high draft pick out of it.

    • Cheryl

      You’ll probably get your wish.

  • Kevin

Does anybody know who is expected to be the 1st player selected in next years MLB draft? Unless its a similar situation to this year’s NFL draft where it’s a no brainer, then I suggest the Cubs management make some changes to give some. hungry fans something to cheer about this year. Bagging is not respectful.

    • Cheryl

This is pretty hard to take even though we knew the team wouldn’t be that good I hope there will be something to cheer about, but don’t know what it coud be. i had hoped it would be LaHair but it looks like he’s going to be platooned, then traded.

      • rcleven

        Platooned? Traded?
My crystal ball broke yesterday but I see no indication of either.

        • Cheryl

          Boy I hope you’re right!!!

    • Nathan

The pitcher out of Florida could be a safe bet for this early of a projection, Karsten Whitson is his name, but he turned down a lot of money out of high school and he has done really well for the Gators his first two years. I have seen him in some mock drafts as being a top five choice if not the top choice next year. Also I have heard a lot of good things about Colin Moran from North Carolina, he is a third baseman

      • Jeremy

Kris Bryant 3B! Look up his statistics. His improvement from his freshman year to sophomore year at San Diego is basically Andrew Luck like (yes I know Luck plays football but I can’t think of anyone that showed this type of improvement).

        • calicubsfan007

Do we need another 3rd baseman though?

  • die hard

Campana injured?…if not, why not in lineup?..he needs to play every inning to maximize his value

    • Carew

Even players in the best shape needs a day off here and there

  • die hard

Cant believe that Astros running out the clock on NL life…They add a 1B with power and move Lee to DH next year and could challenge for flag..

  • http://It'searly Mike F

I never bought the losing is necessary argument and we had it coming. I expected more from Theo and still see him as having a plan. That said two things concern me. Young players like Castro don’t need this. There’s not a lot of good that comes from stuff like this, if indeed he’s the future, which I’m not sure of at the moment. But I am sure, he’s not ready to the center and certainly think he’s got quite a ways to putting it altogether.

More importantly, everything has to have a purpose. If the plan is to move asap as much for as much as you can get to jump start winning, I’m all for it. We’re hemmed in and there is no where to good to go. Face it, it’s highly likely to get much worse this season before it gets better. I have made peace with that as long as there is some light at the end of the tunnel say real winning at the end of 2013 and maybe contention in 2014. What concerns me is some of the same stuff we saw with AM no urgency and endless nonsense. I don’t think Theo is about that, but I am not going to lie to myself. While I see some good things, there’s no commitment to winning today, and if fans and players buy into that, there’s a real danger that there never is. Losing isn’t as much fun as some thought….

  • Jeremy

This lineup made me throw up a bit in my mouth…

    • rcleven

Only a little bit? You can do better than that.
      I filled my whole mouth.

  • morgan

    omg, lol at that lineup

  • njriv

I see that lineup and I automatically think, who cares? Why am I even watching?

  • Cubsfaninky

This lineup would not compete in doube a.

  • MaxM1908

Ok, I was out of town for since last Friday and haven’t been following the Cubs in that time (though, I obviously was aware of the eight game losing streak). Today, I finally check to see what’s going on and KOYIE HILL IS OUR STARTING CATCHER???!!?? What the hell happened in the last five days that would result in Koyie f&*#ing Hill returning to the Cubs! Is this a joke? Seriously…have I wandered into some kind of April Fool’s prank? I’ve died and gone to Cubs’ hell.

    • Edwin

In Cubs hell, Mike Ditka sings the 7th inning stretch. Every inning.

      • calicubsfan007

        Oh God, please, no.

    • Edwin

In Cubs Hell, Tinker to Evers to Chance has been replaced with Izturis to Cedeno to Choi.

    • Edwin

In Cubs hell, Carlos Marmol and Kevin Gregg are the only two pitchers in the bullpen.

      • calicubsfan007

You have obviously thought about what a Cubs hell would really be like before this, haven’t you?

    • Edwin

In Cubs Hell, the only player that shows up at the Cubs Convention is Milton Bradley.

      • calicubsfan007

        oh God no!!!!!

        • Cheryl

In cubs hell the umpires get so sick of the cubs they become the players and actually win.

      • Brett

This series is magnificent, and should immediately be a Message Board thread, or even a post.

        • Brett

Screw it. It’s a post, and a brilliant one. I’ve started writing it, and I’ll have to include yours as well.

      • Cooper R

In Cubs Hell, the first 20,000 fans receive a walkman and a green turtleneck.

        • Edwin

          Well played. Well played indeed.

    • necusfan

In Cubs hell Soriano is taken out for a defensive replacement, and it’s Brant Brown.

      • Edwin

  • http://bleachernation Allen

    Soriano sucks!

    • calicubsfan007

      Words of a poet (=

  • http://bleachernation Allen

i cant wait till soriano is no longer a part of this team. i really cant stand watching him. hes pathetic

    • Drew7

Really? I had no idea! :)

    • Njriv

He provides occasional power that can last a month or two. Other than that he reminds me of that old, warn down, tired family dog that can barley stand on its hind legs and the family is in denial that its time to put it down.

  • Diesel

Dolis is doing his best Carlos marmol impression. Fantastic.

  • Jzwizard

I’m starting to think the Cubs have that 1st pick locked up after being swept by the White Sox and Astros

  • CBP

    Dolis= Marnol 2.0

  • grace17

R they trying to lose games? Y do they keep leaving in pitchers who r struggling? Svuems teaching them how to not win!

  • Gregb

Wow just wow now i get to catch shit from all the astros fans btw great read on your article earlier on the positives of the cubs sucking and i believe in theo but that doesnt mean i have to waste 3hours of my life watching this shit, now when rizzo, jackson and some other prospects get called up it will b worth watching them lose to at least see what we have for the future
