Home sweet home? Maybe. Let’s just say the Cubs better take an early lead … and then not blow it late. Folks are very much on the ledge in Chicago.
Travis Wood gets his third start, and will probably provide most of the Cubs’ offense. Blake Lalli draws another start behind the plate.
As mentioned in the Series Preview, Carlos Quentin will indeed make his 2012 debut today against the Cubs. Hopefully Wood is less than accommodating.

yeah no Hill
Mather again? Sveum really wants to lose huh.
And can Cardenas get a start?!?
Id like to see Mther at 3rd and Campana in CF. I agree with Cardens
Yea i ment Mather again in Center. I would like to see him at 3rd too but if we see that, then we’ll see Reed in Center so either way, no Campana :/
I know that most of the players were not even born at that time, but I still have not forgiven the Padres (a.k.a., “the Accurseds” in my household) for 1984. Garvey still sucks…..
I feel your pain Doc. I still have a chip on my shoulder about the Padres, and the Giants in ’89.
I was more forgiving of the ’89 Giants: I thought that they were a little better than the ’89 Cubs. (Not that my Will Clark dartboard was recognizable by XMas, mind you.) But the ’84 Padres would have come in 4th in the NL East that year……
And what a WS the Tigers vs. Cubs could have been…. :-(
is the wind blowing out?
Where the hell is Campana?
NO shit! the offense can’t score, but the 1 guy besides castro that can turn a single into a double with a very high % NO longer plays………..damn!
CUCK THE FUBS!
Dale can’t play compana, that would go against the front office plans to finish in dead last.* sarcasm* this is like the real life story of the movie major league
But they ended up winning…
I understand being disappointed about the playoff loses in ’84 & ’89. Say what you want to about ’84, but that ’89 Giants team was just better than the Cubs. No question.
And now that I think about it, the Cubs choked in ’84.
I really hope LaHair can get out of this funk today. When he’s hitting, this offense can at least be respectable.
I live in San Diego, and was at all three playoff games in 84. One of the worst weekends of my life.
CAMPANA! CAMPANA! CAMPANA! Stewart sucks! Why does he continue to play him!
A Pads sweep here would give a nice boost to the Cubs’ chances of landing the top draft pick next year.
Would definitely help in two ways.
I’m sorry but I’m finally done watching, at least for now. First time I’m gonna miss a game on wgn. But I’m tired of it. Tired of seeing old Fonzi in left, DeJesus lead-off, and Barney hitting 7th. And no Campana again? How is the lineup not getting shuffled? And how is Soriano not at least on an every-other-day basis? I haven’t seem him run down a fly or run the bases without limping. I get that he’s putting in the effort and it’s appreciated but come on.. At least Wood had enough sense to stop playing through the pain and let the younger guys get their chances. Oh yeah, and go cubbies I guess..
Woah… that was really weird to see.
Hey I didn’t write that. Get outa here. lol.

Cubs are winning OMG!
Yes in the movie they won their division, but it was the players themselves that screwed over the owners plans. This team is so far out. But in a dream world with campana being the fast guy on that movie, can’t remember his name, and rizzo up someday and Castro and lahair, this team has the starting pitching. This team just needs to go young ASAP. Might as well let the young guys get mlb experience
Putting young guys on a sinking ship may not be a good idea. its been brought up here many times it could really get in their head and mess with their psyche.
That is what I have been trying to say. As much as I am chomping at the bit to see Rizzo and Jackson and even Vitters in Chicago, I don’t want them up here just so they can play and be on this god awful team right now. It would kill their confidence. They should start the season in Chicago.
Soriano’s homer was beautiful
hit it high and watch it fly
Finally, some of the cubs are actually coming out of their slumps.
Question. I think most of us agree that the cubs need talented players in a variety of positions. In order to get that talent they will have to give up some players we don’t normally want to see leave. Garza at this point will probably be dealt. What other players would bring back talent in return? Not Soriano. Not Baker or Johnson. LaHair – not eough to justify a trade. Stewart? No.The Cubs don’t have much to offer other clubs. Castro would fetch a lot in trade, but the FO would have to feel that such a trade would help the club significantly. The path the cubs follow to improve will have to be through the draft and international signings. Help through trades are questionable.Where else willwe get the players we need?
I really don’t think Garza will bring back the type of young talent that most Cubs fans are hoping for. He is not a #1 pitcher, he is getting expensive, he and his agent seem ridiculous to negotiate with too. So yes, they better draft very well.
Dejesus and demp should bring decent returns, package in a vitters or jackson and it could sweeten the pot. Garza and Castro are the only ones that could bring great returns….but obviously harder to replace. They really need to add soler, hope it happens
Okay, this is where Marmol comes in to blow the 4-run lead, right?
I just can’t see them trading Jackson. I could see Vitters traded as part of a big deal but I doubt it
I think the only person in the Cubs system right now that is untouchable would be Rizzo. I can see the FO trading pretty much anyone else if the right deal comes along, even Jackson.
Would have to have a screw loose to trade Castro. The kid will have 25 HR power when his frame fills out.
exactly that’s why i’d prefer to trade Lake that Castro. Id be shocked if there weren’t a bunch of trades in July and I expect in the top 10 rds that the Cubs go very heavily on pitching
No matter what Hoyer says this team needs slugging. The Cubs with hitting can out slug their pitching woes. Texas is a perfect example.
With Hoyer’s comments that pitching is their biggest concern does anyone expect them to take pitchers with 3 of their first 4 picks?
Some moc drafts hae them taking a catcher
Zunino, I assume? I’d be fine with that, actually.
It’d have to be Zunino, if it is in the first round. Odds are good he’ll be gone before the Cubs pick, though. If Seattle passes on him, I think Baltimore will grab him.
Luke’s right, Seattle is the wild card. Some have Correa going there because of organizational need. If that’s the case, I think the Cubs get Zunino or one of the three college pitchers, most likely Zimmer. With Weiters on board, don’t know if Baltimore goes catcher.
Both would fit Cubs needs, as both should be major league ready soon.
I don’t think Baltimore would take Zunino, they already have Weiters who is still young. From what I have been reading the M’s are sold on Correa so I don’t think he makes it to 6.
Cubs should pick the best college lefty Heaney from Oklahoma State with the # 6 pick & then take a Catcher from Purdue – Plawecki with the 43rd pick in the sandwich round.
