What can you say about a game that played out as a nearly perfect opposite from last night’s dominant one?
Paul Maholm was all right the first time through the order, but got slapped around in – and ultimately bounced after – the fourth inning. Zack Greinke, on the other hand, carved the Cubs up like a tender, but ultimately tasteless, steak.
Carlos Marmol threw another rough inning, giving up a three-run bomb. At least Manny Corpas had a nice debut inning.
Something else looked familiar tonight (but worse) …

damn, i jinxed it
(on the message board)
All the strikeouts yes but with only three hits and two errors it makes it hard to win games.
Gonna lose more than you win when you don’t put the ball in play for half your outs.
Interesting to see campana return to earth.
Damn
Please god make me a bird so I can fly far far away! I knew what was guna happen 2nite same thing that always happens when the cubs blow another team out. They get spanked the next day! Corpas pitched pretty good. Marmol needs 2 go away
Anyone know what’s happening to Evan Crawford & Zach Rosscup? They haven’t played yet this year. Injured?
They both had surgery I believe. Both played pretty well for Daytona last season.
My friend represents Rosscup, he’s’ hurt hoping to get him healthy soon
Evan Crawford had a season ending shoulder surgery
That Tony Campana certainly is awesome. Man, he looks like a definite major leaguer (gag).
What the hell has happened to Marmol? He use to be “untouchable.” What a fall from grace!
It’s not untouchable, the word is untradeable lol
Oh my God! We are stuck with another “relic” named Carlos. Somebody slap me and wake me up from this nightmare.
I give it another week before he finally makes his way off of all these fans’ future lineup projections (leading off on most!).
Depressing… Hey, but I didn’t jinx anything tonight!!! LOL
You did last night! Dempster could have had a no-no if it wasn’t for your comment!(LOL)
0-4 with four strikeouts for your leadoff hitter. I think it’s time that this experiment stops (it never should have happened).
The whole season is an experiment, brother.
totally agree, campanas bubble has definitely burst.
I am so confused as to which team shows up! I really wish we could be more consistent (on the plus side, not the negative side)
It’s a question of which opposing pitching shows up. Two nights ago, it was a lot of hanging sliders and misplaced fastballs. Last night, it was a lot of good strikes in different locations. It is like this for every team. However, it is more drastic for the Cubs because their batters do not work counts: and thus the guys who throw hittable pitches less frequently than other guys can get through the game without hanging any.
Well, Marmol didn’t issue any BB’s. That counts for something…
Exactly. Step one, strikes. Work in progress.
29 strikeouts out of 54 AB’s…. Thats .534 ugggh….
Try not to hate on me, but we kinda need the Brewers to keep winning. We need to NOT have them putting Greinke/Marcum on the market against our Garza/Dempster….. Just sayin’.
Greinke is a beast. Corpas looked good. And on the bright side, Marmol didn’t walk anyone.
I need a drink after looking at that box score. Better yet, make it a double…
one tool player, lol.
