So, last night was fun, eh?

The Cubs are clearly looking for a repeat, because they’re using the same lineup again tonight. This time they get Jake Peavy, though, and not a bullpen fill-in.

Chicago Cubs (23-44) at Chicago White Sox (35-32), 7:10pm CT on CSN (or WGN if you can suffer Hawk).

  • Cubs Dude

Lets sweep these dirtbags guys! We can go back to fighting for the #1 pick after this series.

    • art

      it would be Great, lol.

  • Mysterious4th

I really like this line up. This is the “shake up” I think the team has needed! I love that dejesus is in the 1 hole (where he looks more comfortable) castro in the 2 hole where he has had better numbers, lahair then sori so pitchers are forced to actually pitch to them for the most part. But id like to see barney and soto flipped in the order IMO

    • Drew7

Im with you there. Even though it *deck chairs on the Titanic*, this is the 1st lineup I have absolutely no problems with.

  • hansman1982

Wow, swap Campana for the pitcher and Clevenger for Rizzo and this is the lineup come Monday vs. the Mets at home. The next logical date would be Monday July 2 at the Braves (get him started away from home to reduce the pressure). This would give him 7 games before the break and 11 days until his home opener.

    • nkniacc

I wonder if they won’t just wait until after the break to call Rizzo up. I think that the pitching matchups may indicate that a bit

  • KyleNovak

For a fifth-starter type, Wood has definitely been looked better than his numbers indicate. His xFIP (4.32) is much more in line with his ERA. I fully believe that his 25.9% HR/FB isn’t sustainable and will come down. He did have a couple of poor starts where the wind was blowing out heavily. Unfortunately that’s the price you pay for being a fly-ball pitcher at Wrigley.

However, I do wish he could show a bit higher K-rate.

  • MoneyBoy

So, in theory at least, this is about both getting DeJesus acclimated to CF and LaHair acclimated to RF (esp. at Wrigley)??

Thank goodness Sveum is keeping last night’s lineup intact.  Yeah, it’s Peavy and not Stewart, but let’s hope the mojo continues … though the only negative with 12 runs and 15 hits was zero walks!!

    • nkniacc

I just wonder what changes are made when a LHP starts. Hope he doesn’t got back to the same ol lineup

  • Juan

Koyie Hill signed with the nationals and got assigned to there AAA team. For those interested.

    • Jzwizard

For the life of me I cannot figure out why this guy has played so long in the bigs. He is absolutely awful at the plate. He is a career .210 hitter in his 9 seasons.

      • Cyranojoe

It’s not about his bat. He’s obviously got great charisma with the ladies, er, I mean the pitchers…

  • Puma0821

I like the lineup but I would prefer to switch 5 and 6 with 7 and 8.

    • Cyranojoe

Why would u move Clevenger down? Dude is mashing, isn’t he?

      • Puma0821

284 /.303/ .392 for the year. Considering he was at .500 average before the injury I would say no.

  • Robert

Brett, are you sure the game isn’t on WGN? My cable is out and I only get channels 1-20 and WGN is channel 15 for me. So there not on wgn? Even my cubbies schedule says it is… if they changed it I will be brutally pissed.

    • King Jeff

The White Sox broadcast is on WGN. Watch at your own risk.

  • Cub Gone Wild

The Dayton Paper says Cubs on WGN tonight at 8:10 EST …. They better be on. The wife is out with her girlfriends. I get to watch this just me and the dog. I have been looking forward to this all day.

    • http://www.bleachernation.com Brett

You’re safe. The Cubs broadcast is on CSN, but the White Sox broadcast is on WGN. You can still watch, but, like … Hawk.

  • EB

Let’s rip this jerk Peavy a new one!

    Go cubbies!!

    • DocPeterWimsey

When is Hendry going to “Get it done” and get Peavy and Brian Roberts for the Cubs in exchange for lousy prospects???

      Sorry…. :-)

      • GoldFinch

You do have a sense of humor!(LOL)

      • Toby

How many years did we hear about the Brian Roberts trade that never materialized?

  • Cub Gone Wild

IMO Jackson is one of the guys we need to add to a trade to sweeten up the return. Let someone else experience the disappointment that he will bring. He would be the second coming of Ian Stewart aka I can’t hit my weight.

    • Cubs Dude

Everyone hates BJax now. I don’t get it. Sure he strikes out a lot, but why sell low on that dude. He has a ton of talent.

      • Toby

and if BJax got traded and fulfilled his potential fans will gripe about it.

        • calicubsfan007

Toby: I would tell them welcome to the world of hindsight, where people are always 100 percent right!

  • http://bleachernation loyal100more

I HATE THE SOX… MORE THAN I HATE THE CARDINALS…CRUSH THESE PRICKS!!! GO CUBS!!

  • calicubsfan007

I really can’t stand those Sux announcers. I tend to watch Cubs games on WGN, but I really can’t stand those obnoxious, arrogant jerks that are the announcers for the Sux.

    • Cubs Dude

I completely agree. Any chance they have to take a shot at the Cubs they are all over it. I have never heard professional broadcasters act like them, it’s ridiculous..

      • calicubsfan007

Cubs Dude: They are spiteful little pissants who are only critical of the Cubs because they have to broadcast for the poor excuse of a team that is the Black Sux! I’m sorry, I hate them. I really just hate them. One of the worst days in my life was when those losers won one of the stupidest, slowest world series to date!

  • cubs4life

ohh great… we have to listen to the sox announcers if we want to watch the game… gonna be a long game… i hope the cubs score on them today like they did last night so we can hear them whine at least…. GO CUBS! WHITE SOX SUCK!!

    • baldtaxguy

Love to hear the disappointment in Hawk’s voice when Sox fail

  • MikeL

Turn down the sound on the TV and turn up WGN radio to listen to Pat =-).

    • bluekoolaidaholic

      Wanhh, Wanhhh, Wanhh.
That is the sound of the Hawk whining about how abused his Sux are.
      He wants his mommy.
Those pesky Cubs and the entire umpiring crew are not co-operating.
How could a classy guy like Steve Stone associate with a dork like Harrelson?

      • calicubsfan007

Blue: You already answered your question. Classy and dork, Stone is making himself look better in comparison to Gawk (not a typo there btw).

  • Zach

Does anyone know when the Arizona league starts.

    • http://www.bleachernation.com Brett

      Tomorrow.

  • Carew

My lord, The devil’s announcers are horrible.

And It looks like Soto has changed his batting stance a lot

  • TakingWrigleyToSaoPaulo

Travis Wood. Very solid/ under rated.

  • hudog

baseball is way better with the DH. know that is probably strongly disagreed with by some but it’s so nice having the automatic out

    • calicubsfan007

Hudog: The first version is funny. Its always so nice having an automatic out! (=

  • hudog

    *not* having the automatic out

  • Drew7

    What a catch!

    • GoldFinch

Yep! The idiot from the Sox was calling it a hit when it left the bat. HaHa!

  • Vladimir

It’s easy to say Travis Wood is underrated when he is pitching a good game. By the way, Travis Wood, underrated and good.

    • GoldFinch

Is it me, or has Travis bulked up in the legs?(that would be good, better delivery and pop)

      • calicubsfan007

Gold Finch: Hey, if he’s getting the job done, I wouldn’t care if he went out on the field in ballerina shoes! So far, Theo looks smart taking a chance on him.

        • GoldFinch

Oh absolutely! I thought he was the man coming out of spring training. They say Volstad “outright” won the position though.(I don’t agree with that. I thought Volstad was favored by the FO. Not knocking, just saying) Bringing Travis back up was a great move.

          • Drew7

I dont think he was favored. It was a matter of him, Wells, and Wood being close enough in competition that they decided to go with the only GB-pitcher of the group.

            • GoldFinch

Volstad 2.66mil! Of course he was favored.

              • calicubsfan007

Gold Finch: Well, money does talk. And in sports, that voice is pretty freaking loud.

              • Kyle

Wells is making 2.705. Shouldn’t that have made him the favored one?

                • Drew7

                  Im sure there’s another reason…

                  • calicubsfan007

Drew7: Just a guess, the Cubs FO realized that Wells has already peaked and that he is as inconsistent as they come. Plus, very few opposing teams (if any) cower at the name Randy Wells.

                    • GoldFinch

I like your explanation to Drew7 better.

                    • calicubsfan007

GoldFinch: If that was directed at me, thanks. (=

                    • GoldFinch

Yep! You layed it out plain and clearly.

                    • Drew7

I understand that theory, but I think it would have made sense to give Wells a look too.

Wells, while coming off a bad 2011, had 2 above average seasons in a row before that. So, it would have made sense to showcase him as well (if the it were more of a *business* decision).

Not going with Wood was easy- even though spring stats arent very reliable, he got crushed in AZ. That, along with him having an option left, sealed his fate to start in AAA.

With 2 guys left (with similar salaries), I believe they wanted to go with the GB pitcher to start the year.

By the way, your *big boy* responses are appreciated.

                    • calicubsfan007

Drew 7: Thanks, I think. I am not sure if I had made any responses that weren’t “big boy”. If I haven’t made “big boy” resposnes at any time, I apologize. It was unintended.

                    • Drew7

                      No sarcasm intended, you havent.

                  • GoldFinch

                    Bad scouting?(Did I say that)

          • calicubsfan007

Gold Finch: I even think that (dare I say it) the Cubs won the trade between them and the Reds. If woody keeps pitching like this, it would be a landslide win for the Cubs in terms of a trade.

            • Jp

              Dare dare

              • calicubsfan007

Jp: Nice… I was wondering if anyone would do anything with my “dare I say it” line.

                • Jp

C’mon sir everyone loves a little Mel Brooks humor:)

                  • calicubsfan007

Jp: You got me there. There is never enough Brooks humor in this world!

  • Ted

Campana in the 9-hole, filling it nicely

  • Jp

Brett- Do you think in 15 days when Ryan dempster of 2012 Chicago cubs will be traded when he comes off the disabled list in 15 days in 2012?

  • supergeek24

Go cubs! Knock the black sox. Out of first feels good
