Paul Maholm had his best outing of the year, and the Cubs went deep three times to take down the Astros. It’s not exactly a powerhouse lineup that Maholm dominated, but dominate he did.

Of course, I wouldn’t know anything about that. A little while into the game, we experienced a strongly increased version of the storms that delayed the start of the game. Power is out all over Columbus, including at our house. So I drove to a Panera to bring you this EBS. And I waited for a place to sit, because everyone in a 30 mile radius had the same thought. They must be bloggers, too.

Wow the Daytona Cubs and Matt Szczur have been dishing out the runs lately.

Matt Szczur should get a call very soon to pack his bags and go to Tennessee :)

I was at today’s game, Maholm was great…just kept throwing strikes. the only ball hit hard was one DeJesus caught at the wall and almost turned into a DP. Marmol looked OK too: pretty much threw strikes except for 1 hbp. LaHairs hits weren’t rockets by any means, but he was getting on. One of Soriano’s hits was a pop the 2nd baseman lost in the sun, but he crushed his HR onto waveland. the defense was good also. Castro’s error came trying to double the man off 1st on the nice catch by DeJesus. All in all a really nice game, even if it was only the Astros.

No excuses because it’s only the Astros. C’mon Garza need a win tomo.

Good to see a win. Maholm was nails. Best and most confident he’s looked all year. Love seeing Clevenger with a bomb. Hopefully it carries over with Garza on the moun tomorrow.

  • NCMoss

Castro, Rizzo and Barney with no hits!!! Trade them all!!! Rabble rabble Sveum has no idea what he’s doing! Just look at this line up! (none of this was serious btw)

    • Toby

Cubs win doesn’t help with #1 pick…..fire Sveum. (sarcasm)

Maholm is probably the least talked about, most effective (in cost and immediacy) aqcuisition Thedstein made this winter. I know the season’s already basically over and the management is planning for the future but it’s easy to forget somebody’s still gotta go out and pitch this year.

And no matter how many trades do or don’t happen with Garza, Dempster, etc. and possible signings like Hamels we’re still gonna need a couple of back end of the rotation guys for at least two more years or so. Maholm’s trying really hard to stay in the picture past this year.
