Where was this stuff three weeks ago, guys?
Jeff Samardzija turned it back on tonight against the Braves. Way back on. Darwin Barney was killing it in the field, and Anthony Rizzo hit another homer. Go, Cubs, go?

The deal could give the Cubs a whole lot of play when negotiating with their top pick, Kris Bryant.

Baseball's antitrust exemption may be on the table in the San Jose lawsuit, and MLB is talking to players implicated in the Biogenesis scandal.

The 27-year-old righty is seeking free agency, and could be another interesting arm for the Cubs to pursue.

The righty got $3.1 million from the Cubs earlier this year, and could move quickly through the system.

So, uh, I like winning. It feels out there man
You know, its better than losing.
Samardzija mustve been breathing out the correct eyelid today
Had his garters on correctly, rose in front.
Looks like the Braves’ starter got MMM Bop-ped by Valbuena tonight.
BREAK UP THE CUBS
Hanson did a pretty good job handling to Cubs tonight. Just fell apart in the 7th.
I had to give up my “Beat The Douchbag” standings because the Cubs fell out of contention for that race too…
time for the SRS(Since Rizzo Standings)?
Chris … Len and Bob said RizzOMG’s HR was his 4th game winning RBI since he’s been called up … so yeah, SRS !!!!
That wasnt a game-winning RBI though. The Braves tied it at 1 after that.
Go-ahead RBI?
If my memory serves me correct, when game winning RBI was tracked, it was the RBI that put the winning team up first (even if the game eventually became tied) that was considered the game winner. I believe Len and Bob are correct. Never made sense to me.
No, it was the RBI that put the winning team ahead to stay. Much like the save, it was pretty meaningless most of the time, which is why they ditched it.
It should read the first RBI that put the winning team up for good (even if tied later).
think they said it was the 4th go ahead run.
The rational part of me really does understand about draft position and playing for the future etc. The rational part of me has never been involved in any way in my rooting for the Cubs.
I hear that Jeff Samardzija doesn’t have what it takes to be a starter in this league and he’s had every chance to prove it and should be kicked to the bullpen immediately.
Be ready for a bunch of projected 2013 rotations with Shark @ #2…
I also heard that striking out in a third of your plate appearances is bad for your MLB career…
Shark … 101 pitches, 7 innings, 1 ER, 4 hits, 1 walk, ELEVEN K’s. Pretty damn good outing for a guy who really, really needed one!!
Answer to “Where was this stuff 3 weeks ago guys?” :
RIZZOOOOOOMG!!!!!
Barney may not be hitting but he sure can throw some leather.
Oh, hey! Samardzija keeps the ball down and doesn’t walk many, and he suddenly dominates! It’s like the two things are related or something!
Have to ask. Seems that the line of thinking is that Brandon Phillips is the best defensive 2B in the NL (or in MLB) – am I crazy to think that maybe Darwin Barney’s looking to give him a run for his money?
Barney is better, more heart.
Shawn Camp’s arm is going to fall off any day now.
Oh, and Campana never looked as awful as he did today. Jeez.
Yea Tony looked horrible. He seemed too eager to get a hit in the first AB and then overcorrected and held back on the 2nd AB. Just didn’t look comfortable at all up there. Maybe it is due to him riding the pine instead of seeing a regular number of AB’s.
I think its due more to the fact that he is a terrible hitter.
^^^DING DING DING^^^ and no amount of scrappy can fix that
Darwin is already better than Phillips on defense. 1 error in 500 plus innings this year. He leads MLB im fielding percentage. He doesnt havent to be an extravert
On offense to be a damned good 2B
he was extravagant as f*ck today!
If he was hitting though he would be a all star instead of that piece of c@#$ Uggla.
cant watch the game because i dont have cable, but i always watch the highlights. and in this case i watched Darwin Barneys 8th inning 11 times. first time i was like HOLY SHIT!
Still not a jaxson proponent. Campana should be relzgated to late inning base stealer. He cant hit to save his life. A cintender will trade for his late inning base stealing ability. Do we keep him for that purpose when we are competing or let him go in a package deal?
No. Good teams dont use 1 of 5 bench spots on a pinch-runner, especially in the NL.
If he is the team’s best option at #2, going into next season…you fill in the blank.
These wins are really messing with our quest for the top draft pick
Super excite about Rizzo. Cashner looks legit too, do its a great deal for both teams.
Add my name to the list for tickets onto the Valbuena bandwagon! Ian who!?
Yea he has seemed to be getting more and more solid as he gets more playtime. Have fun with your injury Stewart (and dont feel too bad, in my season of the Show I have you still in the lead for the Triple Crown and when I hit normal numbers with everyone else I still have you hitting at .466 WTF!!!)

The Baseball Tonight guys were loving hard on Barney’s defense, especially Kruk haha
Volstad up Coleman down to AAA.
Don’t look now but Tyler Colvin has .303 9 HR 32 RBI line this year.
This is going to get as bad as the Hamilton Myth, isn’t it.
Don’t look now but Colvin has a triple slash of .274 .289 .384 on the road. That’s right, 7 (as of yesterday) of his homers have come at the hitters paradise that is Coors Field. Oh, and his wRC+ (basically OPS+ on the same PED that God uses) is a whopping 71 on the road. Basically, the only reason he has been successful this season is BECAUSE he was traded to Colorado. Had the Cubs kept him he would be a below average outfielder.
*hits like button*
And I loved Colvin lol
@cusfantroy:Ouch, bet that stings then.
Yes and no.
I’m glad he is having success with Colorado but it sucks he couldn’t do it with Chicago. I honestly don’t see him having this kind of success with Chicago either. I think a change of scenery is what was needed for him.
Agreed, and he couldn’t play third …
The Cubs are 5-1 since Anthony Rizzo called up. The R Factor!!!
Thank you, I was waiting for someone to post this. Coincidence?? I think not.
mlb.com updated top prospect list
RizzOVER THE FENCE-29
brett jackson-30
JAvier Baez-52
Matt Sczuzr-96
4 in top 100(not including Soler and Almora!!!)
I’m kind of surprised Vitters did not break back in yet. They may want to see a little more from him.
Definitely higher on vitters thames scuzr…too lazy to look but probably the same age
Lucky enough to be at the game tonight and Samardzija looked dominant
There should never be a question mark after “go cubs go.”
Has to be a typo
I know it is small sample size and all, but I am Rizzo’s number one fan! This kid is amazing! Theo really got him for a steal!
Thank you Hoyer for playing him last year. How about Barney , can he play 2nd.leads the NL in fielding % and is first defensively in WAR , Castro is 2nd.
I know in hindsight, playing him too early let him work with Theo again AND get Rizzo on his new club!
We don’t have a bad team. Maybe we can start playing decent in the second half. But then again we will be trading away anyone with a pulse at the end of this month…
What we have with a starting rotation will be gone by the deadline, more than likely. I really don’t want to see Demp go; even though it will bring us some more prospects. I have a ton of respect for the guy. He is a class act through and through and a pretty darn good pitcher.
I totally agree about Dempster. I shared a beer with him after a game a few years back; he is a awesome guy. But he doesn’t fit into our long term plans. Get young and get competitive. I like where we are headed.
Yeah it needs to be done, but it will just suck when it does happen. I hope that whatever team he gets traded to, he gets to the WS and gets a ring.
Great win. Great to see Shark domnating again. He was nails tonight.
Valbuena makes me smile.
I hate Campana. I hope he never starts again.
Just an off topic thought…man, did the Cubs get a deal on Soler, or what?
Looking at what LA payed for Puig, who isn’t in the same category of prospect, its not even close. Soler was a top of the first round kinda guy, while Puig was viewed as being around 3rd round material.
Barney was a BEAST last night. I know he is solid in the field, but good grief..he looked like a super star out there.
We had better trade Demp and Garza quickly, or we will SO make it back to .500
