Quantcast

The All-Star Game, like the Home Run Derby, is still a lot of fun for me, even if Emperor Selig has done his best to ridiculousize the event. The memories are plenty, including recent ones like the Marlon Byrd play that saved the NL’s first win in a long time (we can still think fondly on Marlon Byrd memories, right?).

The game starts at 6:30 CT, which is to say about 45 minutes of pageantry starts at 6:30 CT. The game is being broadcast on FOX, which means Joe Buck and Tim McCarver. No comment needed. Erin Andrews will also be debuting tonight for FOX. No comment needed.

The Cubs’ two representatives this year are Starlin Castro and Bryan LaHair. Each should see some time in the game, with Castro probably getting an inning or two at short, and LaHair getting an at bat (he might see an inning at first base, too). I like the game for the game, but I’m a total homer: I mostly want to see Castro and LaHair. I hope they do something special.

And, of course, I hope the National League wins, right? I mean, otherwise, the Cubs will have to cede home-field advantage in the World Series to the Rangers or Yankees or whoever.

This is your open thread for the game, should you care to partake. We can all talk about how acceptable/lamentable/cool/lame it is when Robinson Cano is mercilessly booed again.

  • TakingWrigleyToSaoPaulo

“yo everything he hits is a hit…” (referring to Melky Cabrera)

    Brilliant Matt Kemp…

    • markbnlv

Sry for this… Fu@& Furcal put Castro in

    • markbnlv

Im willing to bet we see Castro starting alot of these in the future

  • AD

If David Freese gets into the game at first base before LaHair, I will flip!

    • Carew

LaRussa, what the hell? Quit playin favorites

    • http://www.bleachernation.com Brett

      I’m flipping.

      • EB

        Me too

        • EB

          Okay, now I’m really flipping.

    • baldtaxguy

      Well, that just stinks.

  • chm52

Dont know if any one caught McCarver refer to the glomen when harper missed the ball. as in the Homer in the glomen

  • Derek

Does anybody dispise Joe buck as much as I do

    • baldtaxguy

For football, he is almost likeable when paired with Aikman. But baseball…his toolness is in full display as a Cardinal homer and when he tries to out-quip McCarver.

      • josh2

i cannot stand aikman. he should stick to the comercials with hulk hogan

    • Carew

No sorry, McCarver is far, far worse. Whatta moron

    • dabynsky

I think you’ve met your match in that regard.

    • cjdubbya

Not clever in the slightest, but I’ve decided that his name is Joe F*ck. Editing for the kids.

      • DocPeterWimsey

Yes, because children know only 4 vowels…..

  • Screw LaRussa

    That’s some bull @&#%ing $4!t

  • baldtaxguy

No way Kinsler was going to deny Chipper a base hit. He could barely disguise it.

  • Whiteflag

Glad he put Chipper in there finally. Now lets see some Cubbie blue at the plate please.

  • Drew7

Wasnt this inning the perfect time to put Castro in? Typical Cardinal bull….snot

  • Josh

Why the expletive is Freese at 1B instead of LaHair

    • DocPeterWimsey

My guess is that LaRussa will give LaHair one PH appearance and leave Castro on the bench all night. He’s not very fond of the Cubs. (I’m surprised that he didn’t yank Votto earlier for Freese, given his lack of love for Cinci ….)

      • Drew7

He probably would have yanked Votto if Dusty hadn’t acted like a sniveling little girl last week.

      • Jeff

Right on! Surprised if they get in the game at all..I for one am glad when LaRussa will be gone for good. @sshole!

      • King Jeff

LaRussa keeps pissing me off, even after he retired.

        • MichiganGoat

I hope he gets shingles again.

            • cubzfan23

Notice the moron in red… Thank god he finally retired…

  • Spencer

The Cardinals sucked that inning. This is horseshit.

  • http://bleachernation.com someday…2015?

Uhhh, what’s going on? Why did Furcal just get an extra at bat in the 6th? Seemed like a perfect time for Starlin to get his first at bat. Also why isn’t LaHair in? LaRussa playing favorites in a 8-0 game. What a disgrace.

    • Jared

      i cannot stand larussa

  • Mrp

So one last FU from LaRussa to the Cubs tonight. Classy guy. I wonder how he is treating McKay tonight since he is wearing a Cubs uniform. Seriously I can understand LaHair just getting a PH appearance, but it’s hard to explain why Furcal is still out there in an 8 run game. It’s no wonder most of the league hates the guy.

  • EB

    Screw LaRussa. This is BS!!!

  • MichiganGoat

Watching a RA Dickey pitch in slow motion is drop jaw fascinating.

    • baldtaxguy

That was pretty cool, camera following the ball

  • Mrp

Three bench players remain, two of which are Cubs. What an ass!

  • HR Trucker

Tony may you join your master Bud in HELL

  • http://bleachernation.com someday…2015?

Yeah i’v lost any respect I had for LaRussa. Correct me if im wrong but isn’t Freese a 3B?

  • art

Trout, great kid/player, but down 8 runs is not a time to steal, AS game or not. that’s inexperience, yet neither Joe mentions it. they are so full of it. or am i making to much of it?

same with Harper, he advances on a fly and the Joe’s rave about his BB smarts. then gets caught in a run down and they say nothing. then he pulls a Soriano on a fly and excuses start flying.

don’t get me wrong, wish the Cubs had both of them.

    • DocPeterWimsey

I disagree. This is an exhibition game designed to showcase the talents of the best players. If a stealing whiz (and Trout is nearly as fast as Campana) gets on base, then it’s his job to entertain the crowd with some base-running. It’s no different than the pitchers trying to break-off a good curve on a 3-2 count: give us some razzle-dazzle in this otherwise dull game….

  • Jared

this is all bullshit….they have been talking about all this young talent and havent mentioned starlin once, and harper who probably shouldnt even be in this game already has 2 ABs…. Sure starlin aint having his best year so far but he probably should have even started this game and now he might not even get in the game

    • MichiganGoat

didn’t Castro have a hit last year? I thought he got one but when they talked about Trout’s hit they said he was the third youngest all star to get a hit and then didn’t mention Castro. Someone please double check.

      • EB

        Yes and 2 SB

      • King Jeff

He had a hit and a couple of steals last year I believe.

        • MichiganGoat

Thats what I thought yet he didn’t even get mentioned when Buck got on his knees to praise Trout. I HATE FOX BASEBALL because of him

    • EB

Yeah and 10 bucks says that IF Castro gets in the game, they say what a good hitter he is but then bring up his errors and mental lapses

  • Josh

3 NL players left on the bench, 2 are Cubs. Coincidence? I think NOT!

  • Drew7

Glad Furcal and his .701 OPS get to play the whole game

    • Can’t think of a cool name

Rumor has it that Furcal has pictures of LaRussa and Matt Holiday naked together.

      • http://bleachernatio someday…2015?

        Wow about damn time!!!

  • Josh

    Let’s go LaHair!!!!!!

  • Jesse

    Wheres Castro!?

  • Mrp

    OMG a LaHair sighting!

  • HR Trucker

FUCK TONY you finally let a Cub in

  • Wester

Surprised he didn’t double switch lahair into the ninth spot

    • King Jeff

Why, Freese got the last out, so LaHair might not even get an AB.

      • Wester

Ah…makes sense…started playin with the baby and didn’t even catch that.

  • Jesse

LaHair got a play! Now put Castro in.

  • http://bleachernation.com someday…2015?

So Fuecal must be the best SS in the league to get this kind of treatment. Hey Tony there’s a kid with better numbers and much less age on your bench, yet to play! Open your old, ignorant eyes!

    • http://bleachernation.com someday…2015?

      Furcal*

  • Drew7

Rosenthal’s bowtie infatuation makes me want to missle-dropkick him

  • DocPeterWimsey

I’m so pissed at LaRussa that I’m getting out my DVD of Game 4 from 2004 to watch the post-game interviews again……
