Welcome to Ozzie, to Carlos, and the Marlins. It would be awesome to see Ozzie come out and argue a call (a Zambrano pinch hit non-homer, for example), get the boot, and lose his stuff on the way out of the game. The theater! The theater!

Lets get a couple hit Soto then send you to the Nats
Let’s go Cubs…make it 5 tonight!!!!
With Travis Wood pitching for the Cubs tonight, I don’t think Ryan Dempster will be batting 9th.
You didn’t hear? The NL instituted the designated hitter, and Dempster is the best option on our bench.
Sad thing is, you are probably right.
I had Ryan Dempster on the brain. Can’t imagine why…
I think you just wanted Dempster to get a few hits tonight to increase his trade value to NL teams. Good plan.
Not that I’m a Campana fan, but it really surprises me that he’s been left to rot on the end of the bench for the last few weeks. What’s the point?
I’m with you. I guess they are just writing him off as a lost cause at this point…or biding time until a spot opens up.
I know he has serious flaws, but he isn’t going to shore up those weaknesses on the bench.
When a player only has only one tool he is a luxury not a necessity to the team
Oh I definitely agree, I’m just not sure why you’d waste the roster spot (I don’t feel like he ever should’ve had one).
So far Turner looks terrible… Price dropping per pitch…
Boom, 4 runs already…well take him for Barney straight up now…I kid…
Awesome!!! I laughed out loud.
4 batters faced.
3 hits. 1 walk. 4 earned runs.
Wouldn’t wish that on Carlos Silva.
Hate to root against a guy but for his long term place as a cub at a good price I’ll make an exception tonight
Sportsline game chat is blowing up with people hoping they can move him for Dempster. I think it’s premature to think this affects his long term value, but I imagine trade talks are brutal…anything that can be used to devalue a player will be used.
Tigers need to win now. Owner getting up there in years… I’ll take Turner as a long term asset for Garza+another prospect or Dempster any day
Its got to be hard to be called up to pitch an important game with your name in trade rumors and knowing that if ou don’t pitch that well your going to go back to AAA after the start. The Angels offensive is pretty good keep that in mind
7 runs in two innings. Definitely not ready for the bigs yet.
I would like to see the Cubs go get Schoop from the Orioles. I think this would be fair. Dempster and Johnson to the Orioles for Schoop, Schrader, and Drake. That would be a haul. Maybe throw in one low level prospect on the Orioles side and I think that deal would get done.
Pirates have a chance to win the division outright with Votto out and their GM is recently on the record that no one is untouchable. Garza for Taillon straight up. Winner trade for both sides.
Make it Gerrit Cole and you got a deal for Garza=)
Why would you do that trade? Cole is unproven where as Garza is a legit #2 or #3 starter in the major leagues. Garza is only going to get moved for at least two, probably three highly touted prospects.
Cole is about as highly touted as it gets.
The reason is simple both those guys are under control for many years and if they live up to their potential the FLOOR is a 3. Garza you have for one more year without paying him 15-20 a year and the team is not ready to challenge for a title…
Theo Epstein’s stalker was arrested. Horray!! Now to focus on the trade deadline. Don’t mess with my boy Theo!

Did anyone see Law’s article on Farm systems on the rise? I’m not an insider, but wondered if he mentioned the Cubs.
No he didn’t: Astros, A’s and Red Stockings
Thanks.
he did comment later that additions of soler and amora improved team but regression of jackson and I think McNutt (not sure) offset it some.
Does anyone agree with me in thinking that the Cubs have to get atleast 1 pitcher that can step into the rotation if they trade, Demp, Garza annd maholm?
“Have to” for what reason?
Not so much this year as next. Cubs haven’t been very competitive with a decent starting rotation this year if they don’t get some decent starters for next year it could be really ugly. The worse the rotation this year the better draft pick they get (but I always root for them to win first)
Going to need one if not two.
Soto Garza and Cardenas to the Rays for Sheilds and Prospects
This is very random and it includes a struggling/aging pitcher for a potential ace. Have we entered Paul Sullivan’s wacky trade requests?
how about we trade Garza back to Rays for the prospects we gave them the first time…
That would be shocking from their standpoint in this hypothetical situation. He was cheaper back then with more years of control and younger. There is no reason to automatically assume we should come out ahead or even. I think we will, but any trade we do will have 0 bearing on the trade we did to get him.
That works … archer…. yes
Hendry at Wrigley tonight. I wonder if there is any significance or if he just wanted to swing by and see Ozzie and Big Z? He works for the yanks now, but not wire what he does.
Same thing he did for the Cubs- schmooze and act like he’s better than everybody. Remember that picture of him with Pujols? The dude just loves P.R.
I just got in and noticed that Barney was taken out and Gameday referred to an injury delay that inning. Did he get hurt? Thanks…
Don’t believe so. I thought he was double switched out, but to be honest my attention has waned since the Carlos Lee grand slam.
I dont know but I was thinking it had something to do with a trade… Tigers???
Where did you hear that?
How about a breth-o-lyzer before the guest conductor rambles the stretch?
You trying to prevent Sutcliffe from doing the stretch ever?
Oh sorry Sutcliff is the exception.
