I’d be lying if I said I was able to focus enough on the game to give you a cogent run-down of how things went so bad. Instead, I could focus only on Matt Garza’s injury – right triceps cramp – and the possible implications thereof. Obviously cramps are no big deal, but why the x-ray? Are cramps in the triceps really that common (Google seems to suggest they are not)? Couldn’t it be something worse?
The mind reels if you let it.
Anyway, the game. It was awful. The Cubs got killed once Garza and new man Justin Germano left. And I mean, like, historically killed. It was just a silly game. Well, inning.

Jeez.
I’ve never seen a game like this in my entire life.
Ok I never used to hate the Cards until this game. None of those doubles were solidly hit. FUCK OFF
Amongst all the crap, Germano was impressive in debut. Came through well in a tough spot.
MLB network reported that dodgers are not done trying to land Dempster.
Can someone explain to me how this affects Matt Garza’s trade value? I’ve never seen a scenario like this. Brett, does this make him untradeable?
Right now it would seem to be the worst time to think about trades. Just brace yourselves for the second half.
At least Germano didn’t suck like Russell,Corpas and Dolis did. Dolis did the least sucky job of the three, but that really isn’t saying much. Hope Garza is okay.
I died a little today..
It seems anytime the Cubs play the Cardinals, bad things happen…
I just want to know if garza is even tradable this deadline
@coolbeans: We really will know in a couple of days with how he is doing and if he is on the DL. If he’s on the DL, then I would say he is untradable this deadline.
To me, this injury thing seems pretty perfect. Doesn’t seem too serious, but yet it may prevent him from making his next start. If that’s the case, I doubt the Cubs will be able to trade him before the deadline. Then, hopefully, they can extend him sometime in the off season.
The bottom of the screen says the Dodgers ARE still interested
I think LA has shifted to Garza because 1) hes better and 2) they would have him for next year too. Seems like the Cubs are going to end up taking much less for Dempster than they wanted. They’ll still trade him, but I don’t think the return is going to wow anyone.
Lol extending him is a joke. Hell be 37 by the time the cubs are competing
On a brighter note: Baez continues to rake, falling a double short of the cycle.
Give Stacy another chance.
Stacy’s time has come to an end.
well it looks like Corpas regressed to the mean right quick
The Cardinals should send us a fruit basket for jump-starting their offense.
I drank a lot in the 7th inning. Enough said.
When these kinds of games happen, I can’t turn on ESPN on TV or online. It’s embarrassing to see your favorite team lose like this.
Honestly there is no real reason to turn on espn anyway.
Boy, that escalated quickly.
I mean, that really got out of hand fast.
I would have liked to killed someone with a trident…
I’d just like to suggest that a worst case scenario of not trading Garza for a huge haul of kids is not the end of the world. Sure it would be great, but if he is seriously hurtand we can’t get anything for him, eh. Our future is not dependent on what we would get back for Garza.
No. You’re right, it’s not.
But it could certainly help the future. A lot.
(As I’ve always said, extending him on the right deal isn’t the worst outcome either.)
I agree and have thought that for awhile now. Why not work on extending Garza and keep him with our team as an anchor for the rebuilding process? I truly respect Dempster, but that does not seem possible with him. Is the injury a blessing and change in the tides of 100 plus years of bad luck ? Go CUBBIES !!!
‘cuz this team is theo’s little experiment into building an expansion team; even though the cubs have been around since 1876, draw 3M fans, millions more on the road, and are in the 3rd largest city in the US. prospects are suspects till otherwise proven. sign garza. add another Sp and 3b in FA. nl central is horrid. try to compete; not tank. cubs fans deserve it. cut the crap theo. 38M next yr commited; hello!!
