That’s 19-0 in the last two games. Oof. And they were swept. By the Cardinals. In a series that saw Matt Garza go down with injury, and Ryan Dempster look ineffective. I mean, if it weren’t for Ronnie’s HOF induction, I might say this is one of the worst Cubs weekends ever.

Travis Wood’s line today is obviously awful, and it’s not like he pitched well. But, at the same time, he was victimized by a ton of dinks and dunks, as well as an intermittently tight zone. It wasn’t like he was getting blasted on every pitch – at least until the homers…

The Cubs’ bats did nothing against Lance Lynn, who has owned them all year.

Wood got squeezed hard in the first inning – a non third strike call that would’ve ended the inning led to four runs. Beltran and Holliday are gonna get theirs, so I can’t even be that upset about that. But still, this was a piss poor series. pretty bad.

  • Cerambam

I was hoping for a garza trade, a dempster with Lahair trade, a whole crop of new prospects a cardinal sweep by the cubs, a Castro resurgence and a Travis wood rebound. I am 0-fer

  • someday…2015?

Brett, I may of missed this but did Garza get an MRI? If not is he scheduled for one?

    • Brett

No and no, as far as we’ve heard. Him not getting one at all would be a very good sign.

      • RicoSanto

He did get one either Friday or Saturday and everything is fine.

        • Brett

          X-ray, not MRI.

  • Drew7

Pretty solid debut for Beliveau, at least.

  • Evan

Three hits and a walk in 1.2 IP for Beliveau. Not spectacular, but at least he kept them off the board. Which is more than a certain closer can do…

    • Njriv

Weren’t 2 out of the 3 infield hits?

    • Drew7

Weak hits – he was better than the boxscore indicates.

  • Cubs Dude

I’ve never seen a pitcher effected by getting calls from the home plate ump as much as Wood. He can look like a very effective pitcher if he gets the corner to looking like the worse pitcher in mlb if he isn’t. I really hope he can find a happy medium, and not be so dependent on the ump in the future. It really is pretty ridiculous at this point..

We were 4 picks from Mike trout in the 2009 draft. Ended up taking bjax with 29th pick. Hope bjax ends up like trout.

    • Spencer

      Keep hoping.

      • EvenBetterNewsV2.0

Haha yeah….. Trout is 20. Jackson is 23. No chance Jackson ends up being half of the player as Trout.

  • calicubsfan007

Crap, I wish that went went better.

  • Convention Jason

Listened in on The Score…Well done, Brett.

    • Brett

      Thanks, Jason. Dig the name.

  • RicoSanto

Kind of a back to reality check. A few days ago sosme optomistic cub fans thought they could make a run. Lets Make A Deal or 2 or 3 or 4 or 5

  • @cubsfantroy

They need to send Rizzo back to the minors. Another game he didn’t homer in or get a RBI. Absolutely horrible. I hope we can get something for him at the trade deadline.

    • Sandberg

Yeah, Rizzo has got to go. I just hope we can get a B- prospect for him at this stage.

  • Todd

SOLER Just went yard. So far he is 2 for 3 with a double to go with his homer

  • Tony

    Promote, promote…Perioa!

  • willis

I thought Wood was terrible. Then he fooled me and made me think I was wrong. But I was right all along. He’s not good. I should have trusted my instincts instead of gettting fooled. Put your team down 4-0 in the first and the game is over.

What a crappy weekend. But at least they can dress funny…stupid.

    • Wester

      What you talkin bout Willis?

  • DocPeterWimsey

Who’s idea was it for the Cubs to do the Ron Santo heel-click? It’s too bad that the Cubs were not in Wrigley for that. (Of course, only a small fraction of the fans would even remember that, so maybe it doesn’t matter….)

  • Jeremy

Don’t know where to put this yet but here is Soler’s HR from tonight.

    • someday…2015?

WHOA!!! That’s sounded deadly off the bat… Also Vogelbach lost A TON of weight. I take back what I said about him having too little speed and quickness to play the outfield. He keeps working hard and losing weight he has good potential as a future corner outfielder in the Cubs system.

      • kubphan82

Of course the clapping back at the dugout also sound dead off the bat too… LOL, I kid.

  • Serious Cubs Fan

Hahaha wow nobody is at the game lol. You can here the sound of the stadium lights that how few ppl there are. There were more ppl at my little cousins t-ball game then there were at that game. but good find on youtube

    • jimi lives on

  • John Arguello

FYI, that is a video from our blog, Cubs Den, filmed by one of our contributors.

    • Brett

And it’s a great one – made sure to include it in the Minor League Daily today.

        • Brett

          (And well done, Luke.)

  • Zach

Does anyone know about the bomb Soler hit in Arizona?
