I am currently blogging – here, on Facebook, and on Twitter (hash tag #BNBlogathon for those who want to jump into the fray themselves) – for 30 hours straight, until slightly past MLB’s July 31 non-waiver trade deadline. I’ll be doing recaps on the process throughout the day, but you’ll also see normal posting (Bullets, Series Preview, Pre-Gamin’, EBS), as well as an uptick in rumor/trade posts.
While you’re taking it all in, how about picking yourself up a BN shirt or sweatshirt or something? You deserve it.
And I’m going to be on the radio at (new time) 4:15pm CT in Pittsburgh (you can listen here) to talk Cubs/Pirates. The Blogathon’s tentacles reach everywhere!
Total Posts So Far:
9 (and a couple updates).
News and Rumors Since the Last Recap:
Ryan Dempster remains the heavy focus, with all other players apparently under lock and key.
Most Interesting Tidbit Since the Last Recap:
We’ve heard now from multiple sources that the Braves would be willing to put Randall Delgado back on the table for Ryan Dempster. But we’ve also heard that the Cubs are “bending over backwards” to get a deal done with L.A. Grumble.
Also, Carlos Zambrano is apparently headed to the Miami bullpen. Nail down the Gatorade cooler now.
Current Thoughts About the Chicago Cubs’ Trade Deadline Strategy/Execution:
Do you want to share your thoughts, and your hopes and dreams for the deadline? Head over to the Message Board and do it.
Current Beverage/Stimulant of Choice:
Coke Zero. I had a late lunch – still trying to re-organize my schedule – so it was my standard lunch beverage.
Strangest Thought Passing Through My Mind:
The Wife is currently taking a nap right in front of me. It’s a good thing she isn’t pulling this crap tomorrow.

Current Mood:
Feeling lecture-y about the Dempster situation, as if to say, “Hey, you guys. Get a good deal done.” …

It’s bizzaro world – that can only mean an epic trade on the horizon.
Rumor – Cards are offering David Freese for Matt Garza and Brett Taylor.
We would need a blogger to be named later included, and there is no one in St. Louis that can spell big words like Bleacher and Nation.
Good one!
pass I would need at least two high prospects added plus Brett is on a one year contract so we can resign him next year, but he might invoke his 10-5 blogger rights
Do you think the Cardinals even have 2 legitimate blogging prospects????
Crap! I don’t have 10/5 rights yet!
In the blogging world, 10/5 means you’ve posted at least 10 blog entries, and 5 of them are relevant and make sense.
You’re covered.
well at least we can say that a trade happen during the blog-a-thon
Never!!!! Ace is irreplaceable!
CBS Sports is reporting the talks are heating up and ESPN Buster Olney is saying there hasn’t been any recent dialogue. What a joke!! Please stop the BS reporting and do some actual real reporting.
I would demand Shelby miller!!! This is Brett taylor we’re talking about!!!
As far as I understood, the whole point of the blogathon was that Brett promised to break at least one trade per hour, right? Big letdown so far
This is it boys, this is war. What are we waiting for?…
Waaaaaait a minute…
Kaplan hasn’t said anything in a while has he?
Brett,
Out of curiosity, what do you think the odds are that the Cubs don’t even make a move before the trade deadline? That doesn’t mean a move can’t be made, just that it will be a bit more difficult. Getting a couple questionable prospects from the Dodgers vs getting (I believe) a draft pick, that draft pick might look good if your scouting sees a higher upside with the pick.
Not making a single trade? Less than 5%.
Colletti is just a flack! How did he get to be gm??? From cub flack to gm; has to be story there.
Does Theo have much experience as a “seller’? I know Jed unloaded with Padres, but with the Cubs not making any moves for the Reed, Baker types….I wonder if Theo is outsmarting himself by asking too much.
Great job Brett, keep the updates coming! Surely a Dempster deal can get done…?
Fingers crossed. And thanks.
I think we should just pull the and sign kenny powers.
If what Dempster said was true, that he did not reject the Atlanta deal and wanted time to think and the cubs to try the Dodgers again, why don’t the Cubs just tell him that the Dodgers can not match the Braves offer. Now that he has had time to think it over, and Delgado is supposedly still on the table, to go with Atlanta or pick another destination because it looks like the Dodgers aint happening.
F@&k the Dodgers……….no deal!
Seriously I haven’t heard any news about what Dick Tidrow is up to, come on Brett
This trade deadline reminds me of my marriage – lots of time on the internet and zero action! Let’s get on with it already.
The reverse camera thing in that photo is tripping me out.
Fixed it for the next one. Was bugging me, too.
This doesn’t end badly…does it?
With a couple o’ Feds busting down the door to catch you wearing three large pairs of Depends, and about to inject an anabolic highball?
Because that would be awesome…
What a trooper!!! Would love to do that myself tonight but don’t have an outlet for it!!
