I am currently blogging – here, on Facebook, and on Twitter (hash tag #BNBlogathon for those who want to jump into the fray themselves) – for 30 hours straight, until slightly past MLB’s July 31 non-waiver trade deadline. I’ll be doing recaps on the process throughout the day, but you’ll also see normal posting (Bullets, Series Preview, Pre-Gamin’, EBS), as well as an uptick in rumor/trade posts.
With the game kicking off, I wouldn’t be surprised if the rumor chatter drops off for a bit.
Total Posts So Far:
12 (and a bunch of updates).
News and Rumors Since the Last Recap:
Dale Sveum expects Ryan Dempster to be dealt before tomorrow, and it still seems like the Dodgers are the most likely landing spot. Other than Dempster … I mean, do the Cubs even have any other players?
Most Interesting Tidbit Since the Last Recap:
Other than that Sveum bit, it’s probably the fact that Paul Maholm’s name finally came up in a national mention (from Ken Rosenthal). But it was pretty much an un-mention, as he noted only that teams have interest, but the Cubs might keep Maholm thanks to his cheap option for 2013 ($6.5 million).
Current Thoughts About the Chicago Cubs’ Trade Deadline Strategy/Execution:
I like that they’re keeping things quiet, in terms of execution, but it sure isn’t fun as a fan. I want deets!
Current Beverage/Stimulant of Choice:
Diet Coke, this time with dinner. I’m treating myself to Burger King. Yup, that’s a treat of sorts for some reason.
Strangest Thought Passing Through My Mind:
I’m feeling incredibly “twitchy.” No, I didn’t take any drugs, and I’m on only my third caffeinated drink of the day. Tiredness is definitely not a current issue, though.

Current Mood:
Interested in seeing how Justin Germano looks as a starter.

Keep up the good work, and by work, I mean jeez lets get some trades.
Stay strong…
Next look – blue steel.
That’s one of my favorite movies
Caption that picture:
Prof plum, in the study, with the revolver.
Ha.
20 hrs to go I expect the crack to start showing at 2 am
I think you won’t see a crack until 5am. We’ll see.
Speaking of crack…
I’ve sent in my application to the Real World. So I’m hoping to hear back from that. I’m putting A LOT of my eggs into that basket, the MTV basket. I’m also thinking about getting a gun, and dealing crack. Being a crack dealer. Not like a mean crack dealer, but like… like a nice one. Kinda friendly like, “hey, what’s up guys? Want some crack?” I’m just waiting on those two things to flesh themselves out.
LOL, First or last baby!!!
Screw it take the marginal garbage from the dodgers for Dempster &, be done with it all. Its blatantly obvious its the only deal he’ll allow us to make & he’s held this team hostage to his BS long enough. Then we can move on to moving other guys, possibly Garza who we would get more for anyway.
No, no, no. This is what they want and would set a terrible precedent for all future Cub trade partners. Plus, that would eliminate the only other leverage the Cubs have in this process, which is to offer Dempster a qualifying offer when the season ends. Theo has no choice but to bite the bullet and keep Dempster if he refuses to go to any other team and the Dodgers don’t offer a decent prospect in return.
vote if they move him to LA make it a 3 team deal
Hmmm…now I’m craving Burger King.
“Heard that Dempster and Soriano could be on their way to LA. Not sure who is coming back.” – direct quote from the top Cubs source.
Also heard today that Dempster at some point denied a trade to the Red Sox.
For those asking, I am no one special. I am not an inside source by any means, just hear things from time to time from legit or fairly legit sources and pass them on, that’s all.
I’ll believe it when it’s announced. LA sucks and is burning their bridges with the Cub FO IMO.
Thanks for the update assman, hope your right!
Meh, I was hoping for Delgado from the Braves for Dempster. Anyways, thanks assman!
Are we going to see Soriano leave this game tonight?
nooooo
Brett, your a train wreck waiting to happen!
right on assman we appreciate any and all rumors i dont care if it has demp goin to da bears any thing to unload some cub members for prospects
Hey Brett are you looking forward to the dark times of 2 am to 6 am when there is not a dam thing going on
Do trades even happen during those times?
Those could actually be the most fun hours…
lol nothing good normally happens around those hours I should know I am up around then most of the time…just things you regret the next day
I just took a dump and it looks a lot like dempster should I take that as a sign?
You can take it as a sign to worry about what you are eating.
lulz
When you flushed did it remian in the bowl and request to be flushed in a different bowl ? If yes, could have been and if not, likely just bad plumbing.
My dumbs always look like Yadier Molina. Greasy.
Did it have a full beard or just a goatee?
Source: Cubs, Dodgers talk trade – BRUUUUUUCE reporting!
Probably saw assmans post here, lol
Sorry, didn’t realize you were the MASTER, I’ll shut up now. Lol
Ha, I was just tired of using Dan as a name for comments, so I used the nickname I coined myself while playing a video game back in high school before school started, DESCENT was the video game name!
Descent was a great game. I’m not just saying that because I used to work for Volition.
take a nap now nothing will happen till after the game.
one post per hour!
Haha. Hold me to it (though, I’ll say now – it’s one post per hour, averaged over the whole Blogathon (so at least 30 total); I don’t want to fluff just to fluff). No napping here…
Dempster really needs to go to atlanta for 2 months! I use to want them to resign him in the off season and now I hope he retires or nobody signs him and he settles for a minor league deal with the astros and they cut him 2 weeks into the season. Long shot but it would most def be a lil nice payback kinda like big z heading to the bullpen *evil laugh*
Whats your plans for overnight? watch funny movies?
Mario cart breaks during the early morning hours?
Saved three Breaking Bad episodes for myself.
Breaking Bad is the shit! What season are you on? Also, didn’t you say a while ago you were watching Game of Thrones?
Castro walks and Big Z demoted to the bullpen in the same day? It must be xmas, indeed!
Anybody have a report on how Maples looked last night? Velocity?
As I find myself in my favorite chair, laptop in lap, BN on the screen, F5 wearing out and the game on CSN, my wife just commented that Mrs. BN “is a saint…or maybe she travels alot…”
Who do you think is the first Cubs trade if in fact they do make a trade
Would you rather get okay prospects from LA, or get a pick a get a prospect with lots of up side?
Brett,
If the Cubs DO trade Soriano, will the entire remaining amount of the contract that they agree to cover be put on the books for this year? Or you think they will still spread it out over multiple years?
So if Theo trades Soriano with Demp to LA, and the dodgers take on a bigger chunk of Soriano’s contract than expected, but the Cubs get crappy prospects in return, do we the fans consider this a win? Initial response is who cares, not my money, but then again, it could free up $$ for additional spending in free agency.
The FO would consider it a win, the fans will consider it a loss. You hit it right on the head with the “not my money” attitude. It would kinda be like getting a really great present that you can’t open for 10 years.
I buy my son the complete topps set of baseball cards every year since he was born.. He probably won’t open any of them until he is at least 10…. And that will be pretty cool when he does. Soriano’s contract is 2 more years, having the extra $$ next year probably won’t matter, but it might come 2014.
Brett, it is time to clean the lense of the camera you use.
It’s the computer camera, which I’ve never used before. I just assumed that’s how it looks.
It is a finger print from your little one. Clean it with something small then you are good to go!!
Whoa! The quality is MARKEDLY improved. Thanks, Brian!
@cjdubbya reporting that Ryan Dempster has been traded to the Pirates for the Pirate Parrot, a pair of Primanti Brothers sandwiches and a sixer of IC Light.
Really? Last I heard he was goin to LA for a couple dodger dogs and Benny “the jet” Rodriguez
The Dodger Dog is quite possibly the worst food on earth.
dump sori and dempster for the minimal prospect package and go after upton and extend garza…make a good situation out of this somehow
Man this has to be the slowest Trade Dadline ever. It seems like nothing is really happenin all around baseball.
*Deadline and happening
While we’re waiting on some real moves, why not play a round of who hangs up first…
