I am currently blogging – here, on Facebook, and on Twitter (hash tag #BNBlogathon for those who want to jump into the fray themselves) – for 30 hours straight, until slightly past MLB’s July 31 non-waiver trade deadline. I’ll be doing recaps on the process throughout the day, but you’ll also see normal posting (Bullets, Series Preview, Pre-Gamin’, EBS), as well as an uptick in rumor/trade posts.
The sun indeed invigorated me slightly, though I would now describe myself as merely “tired.” Things should be getting rolling again quite soon.

Bob Nightengale says Alfonso Soriano has told the Cubs which teams to which he’ll accept a trade, and to which ones he won’t (for example, the Giants).

Kevin Goldstein was on with Mully and Hanley this morning, and I’ll have a recap of that soon. He offered some interesting thoughts. But the mere fact of that is not particularly interesting to you, so you’ll just have to take my word on it for now.

Strangest Thought Passing Through My Mind:
If you don’t sleep in a given night, are you really living two separate days for clothes-wearing purposes? That is to say, at what point do I become a disgusting pig for wearing the same clothes I wore “yesterday,” even though there’s no such thing as “yesterday” for me?

In regards to your thought-
I’ve pulled many an all nighter, and am usually up until 2am, and I’ve come to the conclusion that midnight is really kind of a meaningless way to set days apart. There are only two ways for me to accept that it is a new day: Sleep, or a big breakfast of eggs and bacon. Everything else is quite useless, and if I were in your position, it would really just be hour 32 of Monday to me. Take a half hour nap and that changes the day.
All the posts last night were great, keep it up Ace!

I struggled with the changing clothes thing quite a bit in college. I never changed clothes but I was also in college. Real people would probably be expected to change clothes.

Brett: regarding the change of clothes, perhaps think of the Michael Brenly line: happy wife = happy life!! Remember, there are two categories (think college) of clothes, dirty but wearable and simply disgusting. That may not be it exactly but college was 40 freakin’ yrs ago.

This has been an impressive display by Brett. Hell, I’m half asleep at my desk at work and all I did was wake up a couple times during the night to check BN. My advice for the clothing dilemma would be to take a shower and put on something clean, even if only for a few hours. You’ll feel better.

I dont post often. I force myself on occasion so I can say I am part of the “community”. This Blogathon deserves a post. Great job Brett. Your efforts are much appreciated. Although it would not have bothered me if you took a cat (Pajamas) nap last night.
Brett, I think you should just call it a “day” and go get some sleep. That will pretty much guarantee multiple major trades by the Cubs involving half of the 40 man roster. Then we will bring down the site trying to get updates while you sleep and you can spend the next few days kicking yourself.
When the cat starts avoiding you, it may be time to change clothes.
I don’t understand this? What is the point of constantly updating rumors? Won’t we all know the truth when it happens? I got an update on my phone about Reed & company when it happened. Why did I need to spend time hearing possibilities before that? How did that help me? When Dempster is traded, we’ll all know the truth. If he isn’t, we’ll know that, too.
I’m confused with an obsession to hear about “what might happen”. It’s a big collective “could happen, but I don’t really know” fest, isn’t it?
3 weeks from now, I don’t think I’ll regret not hearing the 8000 rumors before the actual trade happens/doesn’t happen. I’ll still know what actually happened and be fine.

Gordan’s right you guys. In fact, next year, I’m not going to pay attention to the Cubs until November 3rd. Why pay attention every day to find out if they “won” or “lost”? By the end of the World Series, we will know EXACTLY what their record is, and how well they did. And be fine.

Funny, I thought people might engage in healthy discourse to explain to me why people are so entrenched in rumors, but I guess I was mistaken.
I spent all day yesterday and today with my two sons playing baseball and enjoying time with them. I’m sorry if I think that spending time with my family is more important that rumors. When it is 3pm, I will know as much as you all do, and I’ll have had an amazing time with my family.
sorry if I don’t get the fun of sitting around wasting my life finding out things that I can find out later, without having to guess.
And I’m just fine watching ballgames..that’s the sport I enjoy. The rumors are not a sport, they are a waste of time when one can do 1000s of other valuable things with their lives.

Gordan, that would be an awesome response, IF we had all come to your house and mocked you for spending time with your kids instead of spending it here waiting to hear rumors. I have no problem if you don’t want to hear about rumors before they happen, but the fact that you seemed “confused” about our “obsession” is the reason you got the responses you got.
Speaking for myself: I consider this fun. I follow prospects closely, and trading deadlines are a huge part of the entertainment value in that.
More generally: I’m sitting at work right now where spending time with my sons (which do not exist, either) is not an option.

Exactly it’s a bit like Schrodinger’s cat. Dempster is both traded and not traded at the same time and this going on for every team he might go to. Trying to figure out where he goes and what the Cubs gets back is definitely like a chase.

When I had to pull all-nighters in college, I often based my decision of whether or not to change clothes off of “Do I have class with anyone that I saw yesterday? No? Fantastic.”
