Brett Jackson and Josh Vitters are with the Cubs, but only Jackson is starting today. I wouldn’t read much into that, though, as the Iowa Cubs played pretty late last night. Could be any number of reasons Vitters isn’t starting today. He will be come tomorrow.

The lineup is pretty interesting with Jackson in it. He slots into the second spot, with Starlin Castro moving all the way down to fifth. I’m not sure I like that, long-term, but, for now, I suppose it makes some sense.

  • Dan

    Walk for Brett Jackson.

  • Joepoe321

Any else think Jackson’s batting stance is somewhat similar to rizzos?

    • SplitFinger

      Very.

  • Dylan

    tweeted this:

#BJax walked. Wat? Possible theory: BJax was working on something in the minors that makes him K a lot. Now in MLB, he’s playing for real?

    • Drew7

I dont understand all the twitter symbols, but Jackson has always walked…

  • Joepoe321

I wonder if baker will be the next former cub infielder to win a ring?! Theriot last year fontenot the year before haha!

  • Joepoe321

Why does everyone say Germano has a no hitter? Doesn’t he have a Perfect Game?! Isn’t that better than a no hitter? Or did I miss something?

    • Jackalope

      By the boards :(

  • Jackalope

Iowa lineup will look pretty sad the rest of the season.

    • Dylan

Yes it will. I’m headed to the I-Cubs/Reno Aces games this week. I’m actually looking forward to see what the D-backs have with their AAA team than the Cubs.

      That is sad.

      • Flashfire

Hey, you still get to see Blake DeWitt light it up.

        • Dylan

          He’s on the DL ::facepalms::

  • Flashfire

Man, Dodger Stadium really is a nice place to see a game. Until you get to the parking lot, that is.

    • JP cubed

That’s because frank McCourt still owns quite a bit of that from my understanding of the sale. That guy should be in an 8′ x 10′ cell

      • Flashfire

Absolute tragedy for that team — and baseball in general — when Peter O’Malley decided to get out.

        • JP cubed

How in the Hell did McCourt work that magic where he sells the team but keeps the parking lot? That was the dumbest sh!+ I’ve ever heard of. How was he able to hold on to a major assett like that?

  • Jackalope

    Germano = Cy Young

  • RY34

cubs offense continuing their specialty of making average pitchers at best look like cy young!

  • Jeff

    No Platoon, Len and Bob!!!

  • Flashfire

    He looks really good.

  • Drew7

Anyone know exactly when Jackson changed his stance to not loading up as much?

  • Andrew

So now that Jackson and vitters are up. Who are you guys guessing is the next big name to be brought up? I think it’s this time next year we are talking about Szczur getting the call

    • nkniacc13

I think the next big name isn’t in the org yet. I thik it comes this winter in a trade. If you talking about in the org right now I’d say Vizcanio will get a callup either as a starter or more likely in the bullpen next year then be stretched to a starter the folowing offseason

      • Jeff

Dude, Vizcanio is out with Tommy John’s surgery and won’t be pitching anytime soon.

        • nkniacc13

I also said next year which he will be back to start the year thou the Cubs likley hold him back in AZ for a couple weeks before send him to a minor league team

      • Atfinch

Szcsur or however its spelled has not looked good since call up. I guess that happens until they get used to the level of pitching. Same with Baez – look at Daytona’s box scores last few nights. Baez can’t even make contact. I think both are still quite a long ways away from being called up. We’re probably looking at pitching and a lot of it as the callups in the near future.

    • Jeff

Probably some 3A pitchers like Rusin, but not much else deserves a call up. The rest need to continue to develop in the minors, these promotions might allow guys to move up and be challenged in the minors.

  • Mysterious4th

I wish barney and valbuena were flipped around. Or put the pitcher 8th, slide barney to the 9th and valbuena to the 7th spot. I’ve always liked the pitcher in the 8th spot. Seems like later in the game its a better option for a small ball club.

    • RY34

i just wish valbuena was gone; dude is bad.

  • John

This is off topic but I just wanted to share with everyone on this site that I got to hang out with former Chicago Whitesox Left handed reliever David Sanders today. We talked about a few things and a few different players that were in the minors when he was playing. He said that Corey Patterson was the most Feared hitter in the minor leagues when he was playing and it was just odd when he didnt pan out in the big leagues which i thought was interesting. He also said he loved wrigley field but after the 3rd game there he was tired of it, he said the visitors club house is just horrible but he loved the atmosphere of wrigley. Also if it means anything he said bostons visiters club house is just as bad. Another thing he told me that he thinks Stephen Strasburg’s Mechanics reminds him of Kerry Woods and agrees with me the Nationals should really watch his innings limit. He also says Ozzy Guillen is a nice guy but David gives the players more credit for winning the 05 world series than ozzy and if anything ozzy just made it that much harder on them. And he said it was no surprise that the marlins are struggling this year even though they spent a lot of money in the offseason. It almost sounded like he wasnt a big fan of ozzy lol. But all in all it was a nice talk with him and I can honestly say David Sanders is a really nice person.

  • RY34

jesus christ man up and throw freakin strikes, our pitchers suck when the pressure is on!

    • Jeff

I agree but that was also mad managing there by Sveum. Loney has been a lousy hitter all year. Did he not think that they wouldn’t pinch hit for Loney if Sveum brought in the left hander to face Loney. He would have been better off leaving Cabrera to face Loney. Just another case of dumb jock athlete turned manager lacking in the grey cell department. But that’s pretty much par for the course.

  • RY34

    god dammit maine

  • Jimmy james

You did tell him to throw a strike lol

  • Jeff

Here it is ladies and gents, go Vitters!

  • Dan

    Yes!
    Jackson 2 for 3

  • thejackal

    at least jackson doin good

  • thejackal

    soriiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii

  • Dan

Looking good for Jackson. Starting to to think he’s the real deal (*starting to*).

  • djriz

Nice start for BJax, but that had to be the ugliest slide I’ve ever seen.

    • http://bleachernation.com someday…2015?

Yeah I’ll say thats #2 on the not top ten list come Friday.

    • Bric

What are you talking about, bro?! That was textbook! Seriously, though, I just don’t understand all the bad blood and angst against Jackson over the last year or so.

The slide WAS awesome! Why? Because he’s one of the few guys on the team that’ll attempt it. I think all the sabermatricians aught to consider what Sori, Soto, or some of these other veterans would’ve done in a similar situation and remember that fantasy baseball’s just a very realistic video game and numbers don’t always reflect effort.

  • J R

Jackson looks good at the plate. I haven’t see contact skills that good since Ted Williams!

    • J R

Oops spoke to soon.. Lol.. Solid first day for BJax anyhow.

  • Dan

‘Action Jackson’ having a great, first day!

    – I am becoming more and more excited about the Cubs future
    (Rizzo, Castro, Baez, Jackson, Vitters).

  • Jeff

Russell sucks as much as Maine! No guts, he throws a cookie cutter fastball down the middle. Lousy!

  • Brian Peters

    Cubs’. Relievers. SUCK. Monkey. Ass!

  • Carew

The strikeout rates scare me but this is my first time seein Jackson play. And im likin what im seeing. He looks like a bigger version of Harper to me…

And Vitters flyout looked like he JUST got underneath it

  • JP cubed

Wow this is a close one, we’ll never catch the Astros adding pieces like BJax to the big team…
