Let’s play two!

It’s the Cubs’ first doubleheader of the year, and it’s the first time we’ll see the Cubs with a 26-man roster (a new CBA rule), as they call up Brooks Raley to take the ball in the second game. He’ll go against a 27-year-old making his major league debut, so you can expect that Raley won’t get much run support …

Game Info

Chicago Cubs (46-71) at Cincinnati Reds (72-47), 12:10 CT, 6:10pm CT on CSN (and CSN).

It would be great to see Cardenas and LaHair get starts in the second game, but I won’t hold my breath.

    • CityCub

Your right. You’ll prolly just get valbuena at 3rd base instead.

  • Stu

Cueto might just get perfect game.

    • Drew7

A little late for that today.

The cubs battled, but they just got overpowered by the reds offense and ace pitcher. Shark had a decent game on the mound, but could not stop this Reds’ offense. The bullpen gave up a run and looked a little shaky, but Corpas had another solid inning. DeJesus 0-3 HBP, K. Vitters 0-4 2K keeps looking terrible at the plate. He chases way too many pitches out of the zone. The only reason he does not have as many strikeouts as Jackson is because he swings early in the count. It is frustrating to watch, and hopefully he can learn from all his mistakes. Rizzo 0-4 2K has fallen off the past few weeks. I believe he is starting to break out of his patience at the plate. He has been chasing more pitches lately, especially breaking balls off the corner. Soriano 2-4 HR 2RBI gave the cubs the lead early with his 1,000 career RBI, but it was not enough. Castro 0-3 BB did not look bad at the plate, just tough luck. Castillo 2-4 1RBI 2K had a good game and I like his approach at the plate. He takes a few pitches and tries to work the count. He did have a mental error when he did not stretch his single into a double in the 9th. He was watching the ball the whole time. Jackson 0-3 actually did not strikeout today, but it is because he is swinging at pitches early in the count. Barney 1-3 K, Valbuena 0-1, Mather 0-1 K, I am getting pretty tired of Mather. He has not done much lately to earn playing time. Too bad he is the only righty on the bench. My shout out goes to Alfonso Soriano! Congrats on the 1,000 career RBI. Lastly, expect to see the bench players in the lineup for the second game. I cannot wait to see Cardenas get a chance.

I havent been able to watch any games lately..how has Castillo been doin since Soto left?

      • calicubsfan007

@Carew: Personally, I think Castillo has been okay. Sometimes, he is great. Other times, oy vey! (=

        • Carew

Still learning i take it haha

  • mudge

Johnny Cueto throws dirt. What a wonderful pitcher.

  • Flashfire

We need to make sure Keith Moreland and Marty Brennaman never call a game together. The sheer awfulness of that event could rip the very foundations of space and time.

    Nice play valbuena

    Advanced Box Score: Game 2
The cubs take the night cap. The bats came alive tonight and the pitching held off the reds powerhouse offense. Raley pitched well tonight earning his first win as a Cub. The bullpen almost let the Reds comeback, but Marmol closed the door on the comeback. Valbuena 2-4 2B, 2BB, RBI, K had a good game from the lead-off spot and set the offense up early. He did have an error which led to runs, but he has played good defense this year. Mather 1-5 K just cannot break out of his funk. He had a lucky infield single. Rizzo 1-5 RBI 2K. Castro 3-5 2B, 3B, 2RBI, K had a great game and is starting to go on a streak. He has looked great at the plate the last few games. LaHair 1-3 2BB 2RBI had a good game which was good to see, but don’t expect him to be back in the starting line-up. Clevenger 0-4 1BB, 2K. Jackson 1-5 HR RBI 3K hit his 1st career HR. I hope that is the first of many. I still like his approach, but he needs to work on plate discipline and plate vision. He had 2 called 3rd strikes. Cardenas 2-4 2B RBI had a solid game at the plate. I am glad to see him finally get a start, but he probably won’t get much action with Vitters and Valbuena at 3B and Barney at 2B. DeJesus 1-1 HR, Barney 0-1. My shout out goes to Starlin Castro! Great game tonight and congrats on the new contract. Time to “Make Bank.” Feel Free to follow me @Zogie on Twitter.

I’m getting tired of Brenly. He used to tell cool stories. Now it’s all just lame jokes and constant harping for instant replay. There’s way better people out there.
