The Cubs welcome a team that used to have a worse record than they did, the Colorado Rockies. These two teams haven’t played in over a year. How about that?

By way of reminder, the Series Preview hooks you up with what you need to know about every series this year – streaks, broadcast information, pitchers, expected lineups, etc. That way, if you want to check only one place to get a sense about an upcoming series, or to plan ahead, you’ve got it. Oh, and there will be pictures of beautiful women, too.

We’re Going Streaking

The Cubs just got swept by the Brewers, which sounds about right. They’ve lost seven of eight.

The Rockies, for all of their midseason struggles, are one of the hotter teams in baseball. They just swept the Mets in four, have won five straight, and have won nine of eleven.

Expected Starters and Lineups

These lineups are likely to be pretty close to what actually gets fielded, but you’ll want to check each day’s Pre-Gamin’ post for the actual lineup.

Hot or Not and Whom to Watch

Anthony Rizzo, Josh Vitters, and Brett Jackson are all rather cool. That is to say, they aren’t hitting well of late. I mean, they’re also probably very cool, but I don’t know them personally, and I don’t want to put myself out there like that.

Cubs batters struck out 37 times against the Brewers, so, on some level, most of the team is cool. The bad kind.

Welington Castillo has a 108 OPS+, which I’d gladly take from the catcher spot over the next five years.

Tyler Colvin is hitting .294/.333/.551 on the year, about which we’ll make very little comment. At least DJ LeMahieu’s hitting only .281/.305/.377 this year.

The Rockies have been doing some whacky rotational things this year, trying a four-man, short-start rotation for a while. Might as well experiment if your team is terrible. Drew Pomeranz has gone four innings in each of his last four starts, which may or may not be related to this whackiness. Or it could just be that he hasn’t pitched well.

Carlos Gonzalez, who’s just returning from the bereavement list is just barely over the Mendoza line in his last 10 games.

Series She-View

The Series She-View is one beautiful woman representing the Cubs taking on another (usually) beautiful woman representing the opponent. The Cubs’ representative will change as the team’s needs change – in other words, if the Cubs are winning, the rep will stay the same. But if the Cubs’ performance calls for a change, someone new will step in. The opponent’s representative will change from series to series, at my whim. But at least she’ll probably be wearing the opponent’s colors or have some connection to the team or something like that. It is immature, and the connection to baseball is tenuous at best. These things, I know.

Given that, these days, the odds the Cubs get swept are about equal to them winning a series, it seems unfair to bounce a She-View rep after one measly sweep. So, Aubrey Plaza gets another shot.

For reasons I’m too mature to explain, the Rockies will be represented by Kate Upton. End of discussion.

  • Ben (BG2383)

Today is a fun pitching matchup. I am actually excited to see Pomeranz vs Samardzija

  • Edwin

I wish both teams could be represented by Kate Upton.

  • dreese

Oh boy Kate Upton is gonna hold the cubs down and beat them senseless… which i might be ok with

  • hansman1982

you know, Brett, you have the ability to not have the Rockies be represented by Kate Upton…you could choose…Kate Beckinsale, Britney Spears, Olivia Munn, the blonde from Falling Skies…

  • Brian

Gonna finally get to see Samardzija in person today. Cannot wait.

In other news, I too would would also be fine with Kate Upton holding me down..

  • TWC

Wasn’t Kate ‘Benedict Arnold’ Upton the first Cubs representative this season?

    • Frank

      I believe she was–there oughta be a law against that . . .

    • http://www.bleachernation.com Brett

Eh hem … *finger in collar*

  • cRAZYHORSE worst contract?

Worse contract looks like Crawford will take over that crown.

    • TWC

Crazyhorse, kid, I gotta hand it to you: you’ve got the “how to change the name by which you post your comments” thing down cold. Let’s work on your content next.

      • hansman1982

his content makes mine look better…he can stay

  • Hee Seop Chode

    Annnnnd Aubrey wins

    • Cyranojoe

      Are you… I… what?

Sorry. I’m a big Cubs fan, too, but Brett clearly is trying to help the team take a dive and win the “behind the Astros” sweepstakes for the draft.

      • Borocks

        Good point Cyranojoe!!!!

  • Borocks

Kate Upton used to live in my home town of Stevesville, Michigan. And she is the niece of our State Rep. Fred Upton. I knew here before she was a model. Kinda cool if you ask me. But Brett she needs to be the Cubs rep not the rockies. Nice pick though.

On another note I sure hope Ian Stewart really comes back strong next year because I really did hate losing Colvin and LeMahieu. But that is the way it is now.

  • Leo L

Plaza has renewed my interest in this series. Go cubs!

  • mudge

Mather is leading off. We should start him a couple games at catcher before the end of the season, so we’ll know what we have going into 2013.

    • dob2812

If the answer to that question is: “we have Joe Mather” I think I’d just as soon not bother asking.

Next year is going to be similar to this year. Hopefully, it will the last such year (for a while).

      • mudge

yep. could be worse than this year, a whole year without a competent veteran bench.

  • Assman22

Here’s to hoping we get swept by the Rockies and lock up that #2 draft pick…. #suckforStanek

    • RY

we probably will and colvin will hit three bombs

  • RY

im going out on a limb here and predicting that volstad and his typical awfulness will end his losing streak of over a year in this series!

  • Spencer

I like how the name of the photo is “Kate Upton boobs”

    • Cubbie Blues

      I like “Kate Upton boobs”

      Fixed that for you.

    • TWC

I prefer “Aubrey Plaza hot” myself.

  • BlueHorizons

Not that Aubrey Plaza ins’t beautiful, but I think there should be some rule that the opposing team cannot be represented by a hotter girl than the Cubs rep!

Uhhh… yeah, the miserable season we are experiencing has me thinking about “un-baseball things”….
