Today it was the Cubs’ turn to blow the 3-0 lead, with Brooks Raley looking good early, but then struggling in the middle innings. A couple failures to turn a double play late let the Rockies take the lead, and it was over.
At least there was something nice …

Advanced Box Score
The cubs played decent, but the small things created this loss. Castro had one bad throw which gave the Rox an extra out, and they capitalized to score the go-ahead run in the 7th inning. Castro was caught stealing 2nd in the 4th inning and Mather was also caught stealing 2nd in the 7th ending the inning. Wasted runs and misplays caused the loss. Raley had a good outing today allowing only 2 runs, but Corpas allowed the Rockies to gain the lead. Hinshaw, Cabrera, Camp, and Russell had good outings. DeJesus 0-4 2Ks had an off game which is rare to see. He had some RISP opportunities and that is where he has struggled this season. Vitters 0-4 made solid contact today, but he kept hitting it right at defenders. Rizzo 1-4 2Ks continues his slump, and he is still having problems with balls down-and-in, can’t hit them and can’t lay off them. Soriano 1-4. Castro 1-4 K just did not play well today. Bad defense and a couple bad ABs. Castillo 0-3 RBI, BB, K. Jackson 2-3 HR 2 RBI, BB, K. He had a great game and has shown some improvement. The future keeps looking brighter for the kid. Barney 0-3 K had a terrible offensive game. You have to put the ball in play with runners on 2nd and 3rd with 1 out, not strikeout! My shout out goes to Brett Jackson! Great game today kid. I know you got called out on strikes for the last out in the 9th, but you are making progress.
Nice game rundown, Zogie.
BBarney adds yet another game to his streak. What’s it at now?

Interesting ESPN article on the number of players the Cubs have used this year.
That called third strike by Jackson was not even close, not sure what he was looking for. But a great game he had, good to see.
how is it soriano is having a good year, cubs eat MOST of contract AND CUBS CANT TRADE HIM ??????
They actually HAVE…..sori just keeps blocking the trade by using his no trade clause.
Sori is no longer using his “no trade clause.” He’s invoking his 10 and 5 rights: as he has every right to do.
Nice game BJax. Raley did pretty well, the bullpen just blew it for him.
eh, Raley did allow an HR and 3 walks. It was the HR’s the cost the Cubs the game today, which is a recurring theme this year: they’ve been badly outhomered all year long.
Jackson is showing some pop and the last couple games seem to be an improvement. Let’s hope that continues.
Vitters on the other hand, yikes.
@willis: I think Vitters would look better if they took the same approach with him as they did Jackson.
Justin Upton has been claimed off of waivers today! He can block trades to the Cubs, Yankees, Red Sox, Indians…i wonder if the Cubs still putba claim on him? Brett you have some input?
He probably didn’t make it past the Astros.
Can you imagine if we get justin upton in right field! I think the Cubs could take on his contract with out giving anything up!
There is 0 chance the D backs would let Justin Upton o for just contract relief. He will require a haul maybe greater than A-gone due to his age.
I can’t imagine a player like him would make it through the entire American League on waivers. But it would be exciting to see him in a Cub’s uniform.
Tommy you got that right! The Cubs could absorb is Contract! Its only 52.5 Million..they just paid Castro like 70 Million? For 7 yrs!

Here’s a good, quick article on it that I found. Sounds like they aren’t much interested in dealing with the team that claimed him.
Now Joe Saunders would be a nice southpaw for a pick up for the Cubs! hes now cleared waiver wire
Its going to be fun watching the Dodgers, Reds, Nationals, and Giants battle it out in the postseason. I still don’t think the Dodgers could beat the Giatnt rotation of Cain, Lincecum, Vogelsong, and Bumgarner
Wow including Raley, the cubs starting 9 today’s game average age is just over 23 years old…..
Is that right?..Castro caught stealing for 11th time?…If someone doesnt teach him how to drive the ball soon, he wont make another All-Star game
