Today marks the start of a three-day question of fan morality. Cubs win … good? Cubs lose … good? What does your head tell you? Your heart?

For me, I think I’d prefer that the Cubs drop all three games, but I’m not sure I can actively root for it. It’s just hard, especially with so few games left before I won’t be able to cheer for my Cubs for a long, long time.

With tonight’s lineup, though, the Cubs may have made their choice.

Ditto Rockies. And I think they look “better” at it.

I hope they win. i want to some fight in these guys! yeah maybe loos a slight better pick. potential is always nice but some of these guys on the team is also our future. hope they can get better.

  • Craig

Dear Lord, their line up is BRUTAL. I have a feeling the Cubbies will be picking 3rd in the draft next year.

  • Featherstone

I dunno Brett. Joe Mather is in the line-up.

  • Ben (BG2383)

I hope Cubs play well and lose on a bad call! 2nd pick series!!

  • paul

Going to the game tonight to watch darwin thats about it and 8$ tickets 5 rows off the field should be a great game.

  • Luke D

Since The Untouchable Luis Valbuena is not in the lineup, the Cubs have essentially thrown away the series.

  • EB

C’mon Dale, get Mather back in the lead-off spot. We got a game to lose here!

  • Jason

Don’t we have someone better or at least more exciting to waste a spot on at the end of the lineup than Joe Mather? Dale Sveum finds has been putting Mather in the lineup on a consistent basis for God knows why. It certainly can’t be because of his superior hitting prowess against lefties (.576 ops).

    • swaz46

My thoughts exactly, Jason. Where is Brett Jackson? I don’t need to see Joe Mather. I need to see Jackson. I know they’re facing a lefty, but c’mon…put the kid out there to take his lumps. Joe Mather will not be on this team when they’re good again, but Brett Jackson might be.

      • TSB

Quade had Koyie Hill, Sveum has Joe Mather. Mather is better, but you’re right; what’s the point?

      • Kyle

I don’t know where Brett Jackson is, but I assume that wherever that place is, he’s striking out there.

        • Brett

Not if it’s a bar on ladies night.

(Apparently he’s been out with the flu.)

  • Stinky Pete

    Anyone else not getting announcers?

    • cjdubbya

Same here. Sent a tweet to Len & Bob, no response. Did they mention something about that in the pregame show, by chance?

  • Stevie B

I just wonder… What would Harry say in this situation?

  • Stinky Pete

Oh come on, man. They aren’t even trying!!!

  • Kevin

This should be illegal, Rockies are throwing the game on purpose.

    • DocPeterWimsey

      Kettle. Pot. Black.

  • cubs2014

    a couple things:
3B next year? stewart injured was better hitter and probably defender than valbuena and vitters…….maybe lake will get a chance to compete at 3B.
Colvin lovers he is hitting .237 away from Coors Field I am just saying
Mather is a way below average CF he costs more runs (especially in Colorado) than
he could ever produce……why isnt jackson out there.

    • Picklenose

Valbuena has a better batting average, on base percentage, slightly higher slugging percentage (therefore approx. 40 points higher OPS) and a higher fielding percentage. Throw in he has triggered 4 times as many double plays in less than 1.5 times as many games. No way can you look at the numbers and conclude Ian Stewart played better than Luis Valbuena this year.

    • Kyle

None of those things are true.

Valbuena drew more walks, struck out less often, hit fewer ground balls and hit more line drives than Stewart. Defensive metrics have Valbuena as a much better defensive 3b.

The only thing Stewart does better (besides have nagging wrist injuries. Those things can linger forever, don’t assume he’ll be healthy next year) is a little bit of raw power, but he negates that with his GB tendencies.

      • Jeff

Regardless, Stewart might as well be given a contract for 2013 and thrown out there in spring training to see if that wrist has healed and his power and average will come back.

Valbuena has been a solid defender but he is not the answer long term at 3B. We have nothing to lose giving Stewart a second chance, if he performs well we can keep him or trade him for prospects. If he strikes out again bye bye, but we don’t have any alternatives nor can we afford to trade for any decent 3B at this point.

The bigger problem is that our pitching sucks ass…as proof of tonight’s game..those pitchers are disgusting!!

  • Drew7

Yo, Ace! Where’s the fantasy contest shout out?

  • http://Yes Dude

We need Rockies to sweep us. #2 pick is necessary, I’d rather lose 100+ games and get 2 overall than go 63 and 99.

  • Believe in 2015

Go Rockies! Sounds terrible, I know.

  • Josh

Yeah the difference between # 2 and #3 can potentially be HUGE. Worth losing a few extra games over, that’s for sure.

    • Kyle

Plus the No. 3 pick gives me the creeps, just with our recent history with that pick.

  • LouCub

Jerry Mathers as “the Beaver” needs to get the hell off this team….I’m sick of Sveum’s ,man crush on him. Jackson would have caught LeMehieu’s drive to deep CF when the cubs still had the lead….Rusin sucks and Dolis can leave

    • EB

Lol I think the Beaver could play a better CF than Super Joe
