And in the end, the love you take, is equal to the gate receipts you make.

The 2012 season concludes – for the Cubs and Astros, anyway – today, and the process of building for 2013 begins at around 4:30pm. The snake eats its tail, the stream evaporates into the clouds and the rain falls into the stream, and so on, and so on.

One of these years, today is going to mark the height of anticipation for us. This year, instead, it marks the nadir of, well, anticipation.

Most of the regulars get the day off today, so at least there’s something different to see. I’d say the Astros are doing the same, but, frankly, I haven’t got the foggiest about their “regulars” these days.

At least there are some other exciting things going on in baseball today, including the races in the AL West and AL East going down to the wire (go O’s, go A’s), and Miguel Cabrera’s pursuit of the first Triple Crown in 45 years.

  • Luke D

    Cardenas gets a start!

    • Bret Epic

I’m quite stoked as well. I don’t think he’s been given much of any chance to show what he’s made of yet.

  • MightyBear

I don’t care if the Cubs lose 500 games in a season, it’s sad that it’s ending. I’m going to miss the Cubs, the EBS, the Series She View, etc.

I hope the organization has a good off season. Go Cubbies!!!!

    • TWC

No EBSes for six months… laaaaaaame.

      • ColoCubFan

How about some EBSes from ’84 or ’89 when the Cubs were actually respected.

        • rhino70

Those gals are all gray and wrinkled by now!

          • rhino70

            Oops. Meant the she-view. D’OH!

        • Hee Seop Chode

actually…those pin ups could be pretty entertaining if Bret could find some antique images

  • Blyth

Go Rangers, can’t root against Dempster even if he is elsewhere

  • Myles

Hopefully we look back at this season as the bottom of a very tall height we ascend to.

  • Featherstone

Last game of the season? Thank. God.

  • FFP

“And in the end, the love you take, is equal to the gate receipts you make.”

    But is it,
In the end, the gate reciepts we take will be equal to the love the organization makes?

(or are the two in a positive feedback loop?)

Either way; boy, we’re not going to carry that “wait” a long time.

    • Brett

Hopefully next year, your version is correct.

  • EQ76

    bring on the lukewarm stove!

  • Spencer

There isn’t really anything really exciting to look forward to this offseason, either. No GM or manager search, and I don’t anticipate any huge FA splashes. Let’s start an Obsessive 2013 MLB Draft Watch!!

  • Stevie B

What am I going to do every morning when I’m on the toilet with my I Phone???

Youporn and youtube here I come!

  • TakingWrigleyToSãoPaulo

What to watch: juggernauts Cubs v Stros or the low payroll A’s v Rangers (Dempster).

    • Matt3

      Go A’s

  • brandon

How many wins do you think Garza demp maholm and shark would be worth if they pitched the whole season

    • Pat

Consider that they all pitched most of the first half, and the team spent most of that on pace for between 90 and 100 losses.

  • TWC

and THAT is why sacrifice bunts are STOOOOOOOOOPID and ineffectual
