It’s the ninth episode of a super awesome podcast featuring me and Sahadev Sharma. You can listen to the podcast there below, or download it for later listening. You can also subscribe via iTunes. Here’s your iTunes link, and you can also find it by searching in the iTunes store. For those of you who use other feed-catching services, here’s the podcast feed. For those of you just tuning in who want to catch up on prior episodes, here’s the whole lot.

As always, you can send questions, comments, etc. to the official podcast email address (podcast AT bleachernation DOT com) if you want your thoughts included on a future show. We hit a few good ones in this episode.

This week we get into the Anibal Sanchez non-signing, and its implications for the future of the Cubs. We also talk about Edwin Jackson as a possible substitute, and about how the media reports rumors/news. We talk about the lack of a Nate Schierholtz signing so far, about the desire for a “perfect move,” and about Cubs Christmas songs.

We also talk about the appropriate fluffiness level for pillows, about the proper pronunciation of words, and about getting punked by “Buck Naked.”

Even better than reading an email.

    A+ would e-mail again.

    • http://www.bleachernation.com Brett

      Haha. Nicely done.

  • cubchymyst

Podcast got pranked by a Seinfeld reference? Where did I recently here about the Cubs being linked to Seinfeld references? Now I remember, the new Cubs color commentator Jim DeShaies. Brett I think the only logical conclusion is that you guys got punk’d by Jim DeShaies

    • http://www.bleachernation.com Brett

      I knew I missed Brenly…

  • Cubbie Blues

I totally disagree with needing to be the first. I really don’t care who is first. I want to know who is right. Yes, they should get a 2nd source before running with it.

    • http://www.bleachernation.com Brett

And, to be clear – Sahadev and I weren’t saying it’s a *good* thing that these guys are desperate to be first. Just saying that it has become the unfortunate reality.

      • Cubbie Blues

Oh, I understood that. The rest of this post has been trimmed to nothing and has been removed from the soapbox.

  • Jacob

Hey guys, take it for what it’s worth, but Jim Bowden just said on MLB Network Radio that he believes the Cubs land E Jax, Bourn, and Loshe because Scott Boras wants to help Theo turn the rebuild around… Just relaying information.

    • Ryan

could you imagine what the rotation would be like if we landed Loshe

    • hansman1982

Thanks for relaying the information and this is in no way directed at you.

“…because Scott Boras wants to help Theo turn the rebuild around”

I wonder if Jimmy-B realized how dumb this sounded as he said it?

      • Jacob

I had to hold back laughter. Everybody in the world knows that Scott Boras has nothing but $$$ in mind.

        • Spencer

Can postseason incentives be added to contracts? Like if the Cubs make the postseason or win the world series then this player gets X bonus.

    • Sahadev Sharma

I’m not sure I understand why Boras would do anything outside of the direct interests of his client. Not sure what Bowden is getting at… what does Boras have to gain by helping Theo turn around the Cubs? Is he suggesting that he knows Theo and the Cubs will spend even more if they can get competitive? Because that’s the only thing I can think of that would be of benefit to Boras.

And on a complete side not, no thanks on Kyle Lohse. I’d have no interest in him on a multi-year deal at what I think he’s gonna cost.

      • Jacob

I agree on Kyle Loshe. The only way he would make sense is if the Cubs believed they would contend THIS year with those signings.. Which is just not realistic.

I honestly think Bowden was just talking to talk.

      • http://www.bleachernation.com Brett

Ditto on all counts. Thanks for passing that on, Jacob. Very bizarre.

    • DarthHater

I read that Jackson is no longer with Boras, but is now with the Legacy Agency. I looked at Legacy’s website and they do list Jackson as a client. Does someone know the truth here?

      • Cubbie Blues

Found the article where he dropped Boras. He did so back in July.

        • DarthHater

Right. So doesn’t that conclusively prove that Bowden’s talking out his you-know-what?

          • hansman1982

I am sure there is a solid reason that Bowden controls a microphone now and not an MLB franchise…

            • DarthHater

Or perhaps our FO is so stupid they’re negotiating with the wrong agent! 😉

              • Spencer

Boras slept with Theo’s wife and owes him a solid.

    • DarthHater

Okay. Just confirmed at MLBTR that Boras is NOT Jackson’s agent. So it is now official that Bowden does not know WTF he is talking about.

  • FastBall

    Maybe Boras is Theo’s agent!!
Maybe they are in cahoots. The better Theo does the better Boras does. If I was Theo I would be letting Boras feel like he was close to my inner circle even though he never would be. We all partner up in business. Sometimes you can find a great partnership in the most unlikely places. Nothing would be shock me.

It felt weird to say “the cream.”

  • Tyler

I request a new weekly segment called “Pillow Talk with Brett and Sahadev” in which the two of you spend 5 minutes discussing pillows and telling pillow-related stories. That would be fantastic.
