Ah, we can really start thinking about actual baseball games again.
Today the Chicago Cubs announced their broadcast schedules – TV, radio, and internet streaming audio (free) – for the 2013 Spring Training. Save for a few split-squad games, every Spring game is covered by one or more of these methods, so you don’t have to miss out if you don’t want to.
As usual, the TV games don’t come until later in the schedule, so you’ll have to be patient for visuals. There are six total televised games, with four on WGN and two on CSN.
Presently, there is no broadcast information for the Bunt Tournament ( … he says half-jokingly, half-seriously).
Here’s the full schedule – with a small handful of exceptions, the games start at 1:05pm Arizona Time:

Hey Brett aren’t there select games, not only the cubs but the rest of the league, broadcasted on MLBN?
Does the game being available on Cubs.com mean it’s available on the MLB app? I seem to remember this not being the case last year. I’m hoping it’ll be different this time.
I don’t know, but they haven’t said it’ll be a change from last year. So I’m not optimistic.

Is the bunting tournament open to spectators?
It was last year, I believe.
It is very difficult to see the competition. Last year the begining rounds were held on the far northeast (half field) at Fitch Park. So you can only watch it from outside the grounds through the fence. And all the players and coaches are in the way! The finals last year were held on the practice field at HohoKam beyond the right field berm. It was not open to the public.
Just booked my flight for the last week of Spring training! Can’t wait! Any other BN’rs gonna be around then? (Going to the Giants and Reds games)
Wife and I will be there at both games. We’ll be just past the Cubs dugout (113 or 115) both days.

Does anyone know if the cubs.com games show up on mlb.tv? And to see spring training games, do you need to buy the mlb.tv package before spring training starts or do they fall under the package you bought the previous year?
It’s a totally separate thing this year, it looks like. Anyone with an MLB.com account can listen to the games on Cubs.com.

Agreed I spend a Christmas gift card on a Roku
I love mine so much I was able to ditch cable and save some money. Miss ESPN a bit but there are other streaming sports channels you can pick up.
I’ve been wanting to ditch cable and run everything through a desktop computer I have but don’t use. Is this the same basic thing or is there a better way or am I on crack?
If you have a decent, or newer TV, and a router with at least 5mbps, I would recommend the Roku. I was paying $135/month on Satellite, now pay for only what I want. Netfflix $8, Hulu $7, Amazon Prime (which comes with free 2 day shipping) $89/year. That covers all the TV that my family watches. The only thing I missed was MLB and NHL. I remedied my NHL fix, as I wrote below. The Roku doesn’t have a monthly fee, you can get one for $40-$80.
You don’t even need the computer, you can jack the Roku right into your internet as long as you have a router. Boxee Box is another good choice if you have an HDTV. I didn’t so I went with the Roku which I’ve been real happy with. I got the Roku 2Xs because it’s the first to support ethernet cable and not just wireless. Be warned though it’s different than cable – there’re some streaming channels but most of it’s clickable video content. If I were you I’d drop the $75-$100 to get one while you still have cable just to make sure you like it. No subscription costs, and since I don’t want Netflix or Hulu Plus or anything, that $75 has been all I’ve spent and I’ve been watching stuff on it for over a year now. Beats the hell out of what I’d have paid for cable in that time.
Just curious Carne, what channels are you watching? I know there are a ton of private channels out there, but most of what I’ve seen hasn’t been anything that I would enjoy watching.
NowhereTV is probably my favorite. It’s a collection of channels where you can go watch clips from tons of stuff: CNN, ABC, CBS, NBC, PBS, ESPN, lots more. I go there to watch mainstream shows like Conan O’Brien, Jimmy Fallon, Adult Swim, Pardon the Interruption (audio only) all the time.
Crackle is good too for tv shows. Popcorn Flix, Drive-In Classics for movies. Snag Films is a good documentary channel. PubDHub is probably my favorite public domain site. (Even stuff like Tom and Jerry is public domain now.) Lots of other channels I hit occasionally. Sports by blinkx, Streamin’ Garage, New Grounds, blip.tv, KoldCast. I probably have 150 channels, so I know I’m forgetting a bunch.
Also, if you add the facebook channel, you can post anything from youtube on your wall and it will show up on the facebook channel under newsfeed videos. Just post it as only visible to yourself so you don’t clutter up your wall. I watch a lot of stuff that way.
If you are a hockey fan, I highly recommend adding hockeystreams dot com. I just got it Saturday, but have enjoyed blackout free HD hockey everyday since. I started with a month for $17.99 as a trial, but will upgrade to their yearly package (365 days, not by season, that let’s you freeze your account after season, while on vacation etc.) at $99.99. I was hesitant at first, but it seems to be legit.
So the march 15th game, the cubs wuld play the world baseball classic team?!? That be awesome, or at least interesting game to watch. Is that just a tune up game for the US WBC team?
