Meta Site Note: There’s a Baby Coming Soon-ish

frustrated babyAs you may have noticed from a comment here and there, The Wife and I are expecting our second kiddo soon – a boy, who will be taught to throw left-handed and to long-snap – which has some implications for you, Dear Reader.

The “due date” is March 1, but we’ve entered the zone of plausible arrival, so I wanted to give you this heads up now. When the appointed hour does come, I’ll try to throw up a (presumably pre-written) post alerting you that we’ve entered the baby zone. You can expect there to be a day or two gap in posting – maybe longer, maybe shorter – as we have our baby, hug our baby, bring our baby home, and re-adjust to a profound lack of sleep.

Once I resume writing, you can expect regular coverage as usual, but I’ll warn you now that my overall participation/availability is likely to be reduced for the first month or so. You may notice that I’m a little slow on the trigger on breaking news/rumor-type stuff during that window, but, fortunately, there’s usually very little of that during Spring Training. You may also note that my typically sublime grammar/spelling/word-choice suffers slightly from an otherwise occupied mind. Such are the sacrifices we all make for the propagation of the species.

By the time the season rolls around, I reckon things will be back to normal.

I should add that I’m crazy excited for The Little Boy to join the The Little Girl. Hooray, family!

    Congrats Brett

    Where do babies come from?

    1. Spencer

      Babylandia.

    2. hansman1982

You see, there is a giant ball in space that releases millions of babies towards Earth. After a long journey only 1 can make it through to the Taylor household and 9 months later they receive the baby.

      1. Internet Random

        I believe that’s called “Scientology”.

    3. Richard Nose

      Crotch magic.

  5. MoneyBoy

Brett … First off, fingers crossed and prayers said for healthy and happy … both for The Little Boy and … The Wife!!!

Second, throw left handed, switch hit, and long snap!! Come on ace … geez!

    1. Rich H

You forgot dribble with his off hand and his head up.

  6. Cubbie Blues

Don’t forget about punter. If they make it past 3 years in the league, they tend to have a very long shelf life.

  7. Spencer

    Have you picked a name?

    1. Cubbie Blues

      Theo, duh.

  8. MightyBear

Normal?!?! Nothing is ever normal again young man. They say two is twice as difficult as one. That’s BS. Two is geometrically harder than 1. Don’t think double, think squared, cubed or infinity. It’s well worth the effort though. Congrats on a nice family.

    1. brunsmk

My Calculus class would like to respond to this post (just for the fun of the class, not to be a jerk about the post) that squaring one is still one so doubling would be tougher, same applies to cubing, but if you take it to the infinite power you will have to use l’hopital’s rule to determine if it is truly worse then doubling.

CONGRATS Brett boys are the best! Have a question does anyone know could the cubs trade there 2nd pick for a real good prospect then go ahead and sign Bourn and only give up a 3rd round pick ?

  10. hansman1982

Brett, you know that the moment you enter that hospital the Cubs they will sign Bourn AND trade Soriano + DeJesus for Giancarlo Stanton.

    1. Spencer

It would probably be best for you to cede control of BN to me for a couple days.

    2. OregonCubFan

I’ll forgo the coverage if we can pull off a Soriano+DeJesus for Stanton.

Congrats Brett – no more two on one, time to play man to man.

  11. Cheryl

Brett, Congratulations. Get yourself a good night’s sleep before you try to resume regular duties.

    1. Boogens

I think “resuming his normal duties” is what got Brett into this situation in the first place. ;-)

    2. Boogens

Brett, the timing of this is suspiciously close to last season’s trade deadline. I’d like to know how you squeezed this in if you were supposed to be preparing for and doing your trade deadline telethon last year. ;-)

      1. TWC

        Larf.

Brett, Congrats and maybe one day he to can witness a World Series on the North Side!!!!!

  13. Richard Nose

Congratulations. If the left-handedness falls through by age 5 I hope you start teaching him what it takes to be an all-world bullpen catcher.

  14. Levon

Congrats Brett! The wife and I are expecting on April 12! Boy as well! Since i’m a lefty we will be on the same track you are!

  15. I'mACubsMan

How about Ryne Dawson Taylor for a name Brett

  16. Chad

All I have to say is good planning my friend. Just after all the trade stuff slows down, but you still give yourself a month to get ready for opening day. Well done.

  17. MoistassAlou

Congrats to you and the Mrs.!!!

  18. wiscubfan

Bret call him TINKER if he is to EVER(S) to have a CHANCE with the cubs

  19. itzscott

    Anthony Campana Taylor….

or maybe just Opie for short.

  20. cubzfan

Congrats… That picture makes me think of a caption contest. My entry would be as follows, ” No no you can’t make me a Cubs fan, I don’t wanna be”.

  21. SweetJamesJones

    Congrats on child #2 Brett!

  22. ChrisW

    Brett,

Congratulations, the wife and I just had number 3 last month, our 3rd in less than 3 1/2 years. Having said that, each of our children has been an easier baby than the last, so far. I hope that the same holds true for you and your wife.

    Good luck.

  23. Kansas Cubs Fan

Could Luke or Sahadev cover the site while you’re gone?

There would be a lot of deprived Cubs fans out there.

  24. Kansas Cubs Fan

I think he should be named Theo Scrappy Taylor.

  25. cdncubfan

great news! congrats to you and your family. my wife and i are expecting our first. our boy is due not too long after yours (march 12th) and i just realized that if you’re entering the zone of plausible arrival, i have less time than i think. yikes.

    all the best!

  26. Derek

Congrats Brett Dereks a good nane for a boy you know hint hint

    1. DarthHater

I sense that if you name the youngling Darth Taylor, he will be strong in the ways of the dark side of the Force.

  27. Addie's Daddy

    CONGRATS!!!!

  28. Justen

The wife and myself just had our first kid two and a half months ago. I always thought I would want two but now I think one will be enough, don’t know if I could handle two now. Anyway, mother-in-law said the other day that she thought he was going to be a lefty because he seems to grab at things more with it and the first thing I said was AWESOME!!! Left handed pitchers come at a higher premium. Unfortunately I wasn’t able to squeeze a Cub affiliated name in but I did get Jordan Payton so I am not complaining. Good Luck.

  29. cavemencubbie

Someone a lot smarter than myself said, and I from experience found out; boys are easier.
    Congratulations and many more. :)

Is that a picture of him from the future? Because he’s pretty awesome. Looks like he’s about to go all montage.
