cactusOh, if it were the regular season …

The Cubs are now 2-0 on the Spring after taking down the WORLD CHAMPION Giants 4-3 at HoHoKam Park.

  • Jeff Samardzija gave up three hits and an earned run in his first two innings of the Spring, thanks in large part to a slider he called “garbage” today – that happens to a lot of pitchers in Arizona in March, so I’m not too worried about it. He’s just working on stuff.
  • Carlos Marmol issued the Cubs’ pitchers only walk on the day, which is pretty darn encouraging.
  • Non-roster invitee Cory Wade got two innings of work, giving up only one unearned run. He’s one of several non-roster invitee arms that actually were recently legit bullpenners on other teams.
  • Casey Coleman, Shawn Camp, James Russell and Kyuji Fujikawa each threw a scoreless frame. Camp and Fujikawa each struck out a couple.
  • The Cubs’ big blast came from Dioner Navarro, who launched a three-run homer in the first.
  • Alfonso Soriano had a couple hits in his two at bats – he clearly wasn’t distracted by the Yankees rumors that are inevitably swirling.
  • Non-roster invitee Johermyn Chavez had a couple hits. He’s not a threat to make the roster, but he’s a guy the Cubs got on a minor league deal who could actually be an interesting borderline prospect to watch this year. He just turned 24 a few weeks ago, and has shown some flashes of – if nothing else – a really good batting eye.

that’s what’s up. the lack of walks is the best part, I heard Shark didn’t throw a single ball

I’d say there’s like a 98% chance the Yankees won’t trade for Soriano. If Granderson is out 2-3 months, that means he’s back in May which they should be able to cover if you consider the fact they went most of a season without Gardner last year. Anybody else want to throw out some odds?

    • Believe in 2015

I’ll give it a 95% chance that he either stays a Cub or goes to a team not named the Yankees.

      • Rcleven

I’ll stick my neck out and say(before season) 0% chance he goes to the Yankees unless there is another major major injury.

        • northsiders6

0% + the situation you threw out there that lands him on the Yankees = >0% chance.

      • tim815

I really doubt he stays with the Cubs the next two seasons. Theo has probably gotten five or six offers that Jim Hendry would have settled for. Theo will wait for quality.

Cubs are undefeated. World Series – here we come.

    • Fishin Phil

Campana was obviously holding us back.

      • Tommy

It’s the only thing that makes any sense!

      • terencem

I was going to say I hope Campana isn’t the one missing piece.

  • TSB

The Yankee farm teams are mighty thin. what do the Yankees actually have to offer the Cubs? Broadway show tickets?

    • HoustonTransplant

Hey, that Book of Mormon show is supposed to be really good…

      • jake w

that was pretty damned funny lmao

  • Mike Taylor (no relation)

Carlos Lee is still out there… Although, I don’t think Mark Texiera can play RF anymore.
