[Yes, I am the awful husband who is working while his wife labors. Actually, she's resting quite comfortably right now as things progress, and I've been granted full permission to update you on both her status, and Starlin Castro's injury. Thanks for all of the kind words and well-wishes so far.]
Today’s Spring Training game between the Cubs and Dodgers is taking nearly as long as The Wife’s labor (no, but seriously, she’s a boss, and things are going very well so far), which is not, itself, noteworthy enough to draw me to the computer right now.
Starlin Castro leaving the game after coming up lame, however, is. Apparently Castro’s hamstring tightened up on him as he ran out a grounder, and he was immediately removed from the game. The training staff has been evaluating him, and it tentatively doesn’t sound terribly serious, but, well, paranoia.
You can imagine that Castro will see some time off, and it’s good that this happened earlier in Spring Training, rather than later. Hopefully it’s just a day-to-day, minor issue, and not a “mild” strain that keeps him out for a mysteriously long time. We’ll keep an eye on it, though this may be the last you hear from me for a little while.

Either you have the coolest wife ever or she’s already loopy from the epidural.
Can’t it be both?
(She’s actually resting now, so there isn’t much I can do. I am at her beck and call, however.)
DON’T LOOK DOWN Brett. If you haven’t been told that already by your friends who have had kids, trust me, it’s valuable advice.
He probably learned that when the little girl arrived.
I disagree. I quite enjoyed watching my wife’s Cesarean. I even took photos.
Gross.
So, you don’t want to see the pics then?
Haha I respect the humor, nice work.
Gotta appreciate the dedication
I, too, totally respect the hard work and commitment.
And, I love the “granted full permission” line.
CONGRATS IN ADVANCE.
Almost had a heart attack when I read this on twitter.
bark twice if your in Milwaukee.
I’M IN A GLASS BOX OF EMOTION
You and me both Kansas Cub! The good thing is we have options at SS! Lake,Baez..and even Barney can play SS
Neither Lake nor Baez are an option. Lillibridge would probably be the fill-in.
you go brett…and congrats especially to your wife ..for putting up with you and on the birth…hope the delievery goes swimmingly..babies are the cats pajamas..
Congrats, Brett.
Congrats and blessings to you and your family.
Congrats to the Taylor family.
Troll Sullivan is reporting that Castro has no pull, is day to day, and was working out in the weight room after the game. Good news, hopefully.
This is a bad omen if you were considering the name “Starlin”
Let me rephrase, bad omen for naming him Starlin.
Though now that Garza is cleared to resume throwing “Garza” as a name would be the cat’s pajamas
The Cubs haven’t won a game since your wife went into labor, Ace! What the damn hell?!
Wait wait wait, Brett Taylor = AceCubbie?
In another life…
Brett doesn’t want his super-ego to get out, but ya.
Congrats, Brett. I hope everything goes well.
Glad it’s “only” a hamstring. Also a little proud of myself that my first reaction wasn’t to crap my pants and assume it was a killer injury.
Thoughts and prayers for a safe birth are heading your way, Brett. Having a boy to mold into a Cubs fan is one of the joys of my life…you’re in for some fun days ahead.
Best of luck to both of you, Brett! A new Cub fan is on the way!!!
Congrats, Brett! Are the names “Clark” or “Addison” on the baby-name list?
My daughter is 5 now but her middle name is Addison Grace. Both my kids have 2 middle names just so you know.
Aaaaaand this is why I love this site. Starlin Castro pulled hamstring urgency > wife labor
Congrats Brett!
Go tell The Wife about Castro’s injury and tell her that you cant imagine a worse pain than walking on an injured hamstring. It must be so uncomfortable for him to deal with tonight…
Who comes back first: the Wife or Castro? I have my money on Mrs. T.
Congrats, buddy.
Congrats Brett!! Another Cub fan is born!
Injuries to Castro or Rizzo and this teams loses 101 games again!
funny thing. My wife was at the hospital today for some tests for the twin boys we are expecting and she started having contractions. Our boys are not coming yet but it would have been funny if they were. Our only child was born today 6 years ago…we aren’t due for another 3 or 4 weeks but you know how these things can be. good luck with the second and congrats!
Congrats Brett!!! Looks like soler is no longer a prospect… Washed up already… Just kidding of course but with Castro off for a while Baez will prob get a few starts off someone that “will be bagging groceries in a couple weeks” but will be great to hear the fodder when he’s hitting over .400 during that span..
Quite the dedication Brett, I’m sure yr both thrilled with the pending arrival as are all if us bn,ers hopefully if all happens real soon for yrself and wife congrats early
Congrats to the new Daddy ! That will be your most important and best job in your entire life.
Good news is that Cubs have a player on MLB top 100—Castro #97……bad news is they have only one
I just watched that a few hours ago. Castro is number 52, in front of Derek Jeter, Bryce Harper, Jason Heyward, and Chase Headley.
