I know the question on your lips, but I have an unfortunate answer: no, Tony Campana did not travel with the Diamondbacks to HoHoKam today. (UPDATE: Oh, ho, ho, yes he did. Get ready to suffer at the hands of the aggrieved.)
Jeff Samardzija makes his second Spring start, and he’s likely hoping his slider isn’t “garbage” this time. Of course, even if it is, I think he’ll be just fine. Trevor Cahill takes the ball for the Diamondbacks, at least for the first couple innings or 40ish pitches.
Luis Valbuena gets the start today at shortstop, a position he actually played a fair bit down at Iowa last year. If he doesn’t win the starting third base job, and if he can really cover every position in the infield, it could take a slight bite out of Brent Lillibridge’s chances of making the roster. Only slight, though.
Today’s game is available on audio via MLB.com and Cubs.com.
The lineup:
1. David DeJesus, CF
2. Luis Valbuena, SS
3. Anthony Rizzo, 1B
4. Alfonso Soriano, DH
5. Nate Schierholtz, RF
6. Welington Castillo, C
7. Brett Jackson, LF
8. Logan Watkins, 2B
9. Edwin Maysonet, 3B

I hope Cub’s fans throw rocks at Trevor Cahill.

Correction. Campy in the house at Ho. http://twitpic.com/c7tifu
He looks even faster in red
Just an optical illusion.
Never got a ticket driving a blue car.
Just saying.
Ive got tickets in all different colors of cars.
I once blew the engine in a blue car a long ways from home.
Best wishes to a man who played with a lot of heart. I’ll be rooting for him to have a good year with the D-backs.
For what its worth, Valbuena is a decent SS. Nothing spectacular but he isn’t going to embarrass himself out there.
Really like him as a super utility bench guy. Good eye at the plate, lefty bat and hits in the clutch.
Knowing how things go with ex Cubs campana will prob win world series with d-backs
1 for 1 with 2 RBIs today. Lou Brock all over again
Who is this maysonet guy? i don’t remember hearing his name. Guessing not a legit prospect

yeah Volstad will make scrubs look bad. Who knows? He could be our McGehee
Our McGegee was McGehee. If Maysonet succeeds in Chicago after having been a Brewer, then he will become the Brewers’ McGehee.
McGegee = McGehee [sigh]
Do you have, like, insane memory?
Possibly, though Len mentioned the date on the broadcast. So, who knows…
Any game notifications?
Dolis just walked 3 guys in a row
I read on Cubs.com that Sveum is going to start Clevinger a lot at 1st base while Rizzo is out for the WBC and: “I’ll get him in at third base, maybe even put him at second base in a split-squad game or something.”
I really want to see Steve Clevinger at second base. I don’t know why, but I do.
He last played 2nd in 2006 in the minors. I’m not 100% on the year but he has played there from what I’ve heard.
I believe he was drafted as a 2B.
Good for you, Tony.
Campana strikes for a 2 run double.
Pretty cool video of Harry Caray calling the final play of an early 90s season with Maddux finishing a CG. Harry gives a nice little season-ending sign-off. Unfortunately I don’t remember him as well as I’d like, but stuff like this is cool to see.

OHHOLYCRAP WHY DID WE EVER TRADE CAMPANA! HE’S GOING TO HIT DOUBLES EVERY TIME HE BATS EVER AGAIN. #SillyST
I tried to tell tall. Damn, I’m always right.
Tall = Yall. Brett, where is that damn edit button? Lord knows I need one.
How can you make a typo, if you’re always right?
My thoughts and feelings are always right. My typing, spelling and grammar, well, that’s a different story.
If Campana has a break out season and turns into an allstar…I’m afraid of what might happen in Chicago. It would not be good.
Chances are slim….very slim….but hey, $hit happens.
I the President of the Campana fan club, and even I think that is highly unlikely. I do, however, think he could turn into a pretty decent guy to have in the lineup, either at the top recking havoc or in the 8th spot. If he starts everyday, he could do something like, .280/.325/.650 with 60+ SB. Not great numbers, but decent enough.
You think Cubs pitchers grooved a couple to Campana for old times sake?
Well, they probably remembered seeing batting practice fastballs knock the bat out of Campana’s hands last season and figured that they’d give it a shot, too.
