The Cubs got slapped around by the Diamondbacks today, and the greatest damage came from none other than Tony Campana, who drove in two with a double. It was his first hit of the Spring. Later, he tripled. Maybe his former team wanted to help him win a job on Arizona’s bench …
- Jeff Samardzija was solid today in his three innings of work, giving up just one hit and one earned run. I’m sure he would say that he’s not thrilled with the three walks, though.
- Cory Wade threw a scoreless frame, but Michael Bowden and Rafael Dolis struggled in their respective innings … in fact, Dolis didn’t actually even get in a full inning of work, since he couldn’t find the strike zone. He walked three, allowed a hit, and all four guys scored. That took just 0.1 innings of work. Dolis has an option left, and he’s not likely to make the opening bullpen (if he stays on the 40-man at all). His sinker has amazing movement, but, right now, that’s all he’s got.
- Anthony Rizzo had a couple hits as he readies himself to depart for the World Baseball Classic, in which he’ll play for Team Italy. Replacing him at first base in the game? Steve Clevenger, who’s going to get some looks over there.
- Junior Lake got in some time in center field today after David DeJesus was done. A versatile Lake could be a very valuable thing come 2014 … assuming he’s got a consistent and effective approach at the plate.
- Brett Jackson struck out twice in his two at bats today. The massive overreaction meter shifted in the other direction.
- Cubs pitchers issued 8 walks on the day, and struck out just 3. On the flip side, Cubs batters struck out 8 times, while walking just twice. You won’t win many games with those kind of numbers.

Dolis. Boy oh boy, shaking my head. I know Dolis has options left, but who cares. The guy just doesn’t have it. He reminds me of Volstad. Great stuff, but great stuff mean jack if you don’t know how to use it. He is not a pitcher, he a thrower.
I will reiterate, that I think Theo did got a pretty good return in the Campana trade, so this has nothing to do with me wanting him to still be on the Cubs, but Dolis(True Cub or not) was my first choice to remove from the 40 man for Hairston, even ahead of Valbuena. In fact, the Cubs could have waived Dolis and still traded Campana for all I cared. Dolis is not a Major Leaguer. I once had high hopes for the guy, but he is not a pitcher. We should have waived him and signed prior or something. Hell anybody.
agree with everything except volstad has “great stuff.”
6:42 on a Friday, and I’m still at work. I must be the only one, as I am currently on bleachernation Blogging with myself.
Are you considered crazy if you talk to yourself?
Only if you answer back.
Damnit!!!!!!!!
I’m still here too friend.
Me, too, I think.
You don’t count because you’re working when you blog here.
Some of us are still at work AND still working, hence not blogging with ourselves. Until now. D’oh!
Well, I home now, watching Lebron ball. All is good.
Lou Campana Brock could haunt Cubs
Stay moronic, my friends.

I’ve gotta say, this is one of my favorites.
Mine too- keep em coming
That’s hilarious Darth.
Great!
Campana already has 1/6 the amount of doubles as he did last year!!!! Why did we trade this STUD?!?!?!………..
Oh the stats dont count? move along… nothing to see here
B. Jackson’s swing in live game action does not replicate the “new swing” we saw in BP. I saw his at bat in the Dodgers’ game and it harkened back to last year’s swing,
It’s almost like he’s learning and trying to make a complete overhaul to years of muscle memory. Shocking.
Need some help from fellow Cubbies…Ideas on Cubs themed fantasy baseball team names for 2013.
now eveyone knows we traed the next ou Brock
Camapana traded for a “bag of garbage”, bad move, wait and see!
Just curious, what happens to Vitters if Lake does get the call up to AAA? I think it’s too soon to give up on Vitters, but Lake needs to play every day. If Lake gets the call up like people are predicting, where does Vitters go?
Lake will split time in Triple A between SS, 3B, and probably some RF.
Vitters will split time between 3B, 1B, and probably some LF.
Vitters will go to left field.
perhaps vitters could be the bat boy
at AAA! really i don’t think he’s a NL ML player. DH may be his best shot.
Omg Brett Jackson is a bum!!!!!!!
Other overreactions:
Brett Jackson…smh
Brett Jackson does not like hamburgers.
Brett Jackson is passive aggressive.
Brett Jackson probably enjoys making babies cry.
Brett Jackson is now Scrappy
LOL, Hansman! You captured a week’s worth of message board into one simple post! Well done, my friend!
Don’t worry, in five years the Bleacher Nation family is going to be completely legitimate.
