Today Dale Sveum revealed that Matt Garza didn’t respond too well to yesterday’s throwing session, and he’ll be shut down for another week. He is still experiencing tightness in his left lat, and the Cubs don’t want it to become the kind of thing that lingers all year.
Garza is now a virtual lock to start the year on the DL and could miss as much as the first month of the season. This means that both Travis Wood and Carlos Villanueva are likely to start the year in the rotation.
Not much else to say at this point. It ain’t good news.
