Remember when seeing the Cubs face the White Sox in Spring Training was a huge deal? It’s still bigger than your typical Spring Training game, but it doesn’t quite have the cachet it once did.
Dale Sveum told the media that it’s just another Cactus League game.
“I’ve got to be honest, they just run into each other,” Sveum said. “It’s just another game. Everybody gets their work in. It is what it is – just another Cactus League game. Guys are just getting their work in, getting their at-bats, getting their innings in and all that. It’s a little tough to think you’re going to be super serious when you aint got your lineup out there. They won’t have their lineup out there, or their main guys pitching.”
Carlos Villanueva starting and is hitting today for the Cubs, which means those of you in attendance may get to see the most magical plate approach in baseball:

Today’s game is available (audio) on MLB.com/Cubs.com.
The lineup:
1. David DeJesus, CF
2. Darwin Barney, 2B
3. Nate Schierholtz, RF
4. Alfonso Soriano, LF
5. Luis Valbuena, 3B
6. Welington Castillo, C
7. Brad Nelson, 1B
8. Edwin Maysonet, SS
9. Carlos Villanueva, P

It’s also on the Score 670 AM, with the White Sox radio team doing the game.
I’d rather pay and listen to MLB at bat with Len
I want you guys to know how small you are, micro-analyzing ST at at bats and proceeding to think you know baseball when in fact, you are a bunch of mommas basement kids nobody cares about……………..
Soler had a walk today? Big news, the pitcher sucked, couldn’t or didn’t want to throw a strike, chickenshiiit
Theo, ask him about 06Place and 10Vitek, and all the high priced Boston free agents.
Theo should be making 50k in a nerdo job
Anyone who is ignorant to disallow a pedigreed and proven hitter the opportunity to adust, espeially when HIS hired coaches said the boy can rake still says NO, but hey, I drafted PlaceVitek and know everything, is an ahole.
Then, 98mph and that 70plus arm ignored proves Theo had a grudge fro whatever, a great mystery……….Yeeeaaaah Boston Ben C for seeing that top level talent.
Another 100 years of Cubs misery is a given
Once again, you clowns do not know baseball
The only thing more pathetic than over analyzing ST baseball? Making snide comments about people who do over the intraweb.
Nice.
If your handle is intended to be a Fletch reference, the name is Jim Swarthout with a “t”.
I missed you, that one weird college player’s mom.
YES! I am so happy you used that gif. Love it.
Can you listen to the game without MLB tv?
Yes, with at bat.
YES.

I’ve been trying to read the first paragraphs of this article for the last five minutes but the hilariousness of the gif just at the bottom of my field of vision won’t allow me to sufficiently concentrate.
That leg kick could be very distracting to the opposing pitcher, Perhaps he’ll draw an occassional walk. Plus, it’s always hard to throw strikes while your laughing your a$$ off.
Wow. Villanueva – 24 pitches, 24 strikes, 0 balls. I like that. He did just give up a bomb to Konerko but he’s not the first or last to do that.
You going by game day?
Hey clev, are you on twitter?
Ya. Don’t tweet much. just follow for news.
Yeah Gameday. Is that wrong?
They don’t update pitches. All pitches are strikes. Kind of you get what you pay for with Game day. Use it for what it is good for. Just the basics.
Cub pitchers seem to be the better hitters on this team.
Just an FYI. You can’t go by Game Day for accurate Balls and Strikes. I wish they would keep up with it, but so far they haven’t.
That’s a pretty team friendly contract that Chris sale just signed.
Disagree. $35 million for his three arb years is really low. If he’d somehow gotten 5/10/15 (all of which would be massive arbitration numbers), that would still be less than what he signed for. The two FA years bought out is kinda nice, but those years are bought out at almost $14 mil per. That’s a lot of money for a guy with legitimate injury concerns. Not a terrible deal, obviously, but it does seem a bit expensive
I’m not sure what you are looking at, but his arb years are 3.5, 6, and 9.15 (18.65 total for the three years) FA1 is 12 mil and then options of 12.5 and 13.5 for FA2 and FA3. I’d say it’s a relatively friendly contract all things considered.
Ah, those numbers are different than initial reports. Yeah, thats a steal
Gamble for both sides. Just hope he can stay healthy.
Over 10,000 at the park today.
Cubs largest of year.
Detroit scouts scouting Marmol today.
Hope they under the stands getting a beer.
I think Marmol just exercised a do-it-yourself no-trade clause.
They could sign Zambrano to a minor league deal with a no-tirade clause.
