The Cubs once again welcome the Indians to HoHoKam, and hopefully it won’t be quite the same blasting this time around. The young lefties get the ball today, with Chris Rusin leading things off, followed by Brooks Raley.
Last night’s game was rained out, in case you missed it.
Today’s game is available on WGN Radio, for those of you who can get the station (and you can find it online, too). Javier Baez is in the starting lineup, so it may be a game worth following, for that reason if no other.
The lineup:
1. David DeJesus, CF
2. Javier Baez, SS
3. Welington Castillo, C
4. Nate Schierholtz, RF
5. Scott Hairston, DH
6. Luis Valbuena, 3B
7. Johermyn Chavez, LF
8. Brad Nelson, 1B
9. Logan Watkins, 2B

Logan Watkins is a good reason to listen as well.
You’re right about watching Baez. I figure when Castro returns (rumors have that occuring on Wednesday, there will be very limited AB’s for Baez, so down to minor league camp he goes.
I, for one, think he did well for his first spring. He didn’t embarrass himself.
He’s done great. Just rocked a bomb, now at .348 with 2 bombs and 6 rbi in his first spring with the big club. We’re going to love this dude.
Baez with a bomb!! Cubbie up 2-0.
Don’t know what happened at Daytona last year, but it looks like Baez’ confidence is back. Some of the tutoring he’s getting from Sori and Castro might be just what he needed.
I believe his problem in Daytona could have been mental and physical exhaustion. It was easily the most baseball he’s ever played.
And Chavez with a double. If I’m Sappelt the play of JC has to have me a bit nervous, and he might get bumped again by another FA that out-performed him in ST.
When Castro got the call there was no talk about him coming up at all that season until 12-15 days before he actually was called up. I wonder if Baez could do the same if the Cubs are on the verge of contending NEXT year. 2013 is out of the question, but 2014 could be the year where the front office has him at AA or AAA for 6-12 weeks as a type of play your way into a call up situation.
I could be getting crazy speculative but if Castro could do it and Baez keeps progressing there’s no reason he couldn’t do it either.
It’s possivle, but to get there, Baez would have to really blow through Daytona in the first half of 2013, get promoted to Tennessee and do well there in the second half.
It’s also possible, as well as possivle
Nothing is impossivle.
castro in 2009: 380ab at daytona hit .300
125 ab at tenn he hit .290
in 2010; 125 ab at tenn he hit .376
so based on Castro I would say soonest you
see Baez or Solar is halfway thru 2014.
Also, the Cubs are under new management and they operate under different theory than the old management.
true and based on the AAA at bats theory
by Theo it would probably be 2015
And the AAA AtBat theorum gets chucked into the garbage disposal the second the Cubs are put into a situation like the 2010 Cubs with Castro or the 2012 Angels with Trout.
Chris Rusin pitched well today. He’s had a great spring so far and he could end up making the bullpen as another left hander besides Russell.
Hansman I agree, that is why I said i think
that they could be up sometime next year. dang I
saw myself typing again!!!
