hohokam-park-signThe Cubs will try to end their five-game losing streak today against the Padres. They’ve also lost eight of their last nine, with the lone win coming in a split-squad game.

Scott Feldman starts, and is in the lineup once again. He’s coming over from the American League, so it’s good to get him a handful of extra at bats in Spring Training.

Junior Lake was set to get another start at third base today, but he was scratched with a sore shoulder.

Today’s game is available (audio) on Cubs.com/MLB.com.

The lineup:

1. David DeJesus, CF

2. Darwin Barney, 2B

3. Nate Schierholtz, RF

4. Alfonso Soriano, LF

5. Dioner Navarro, C

6. Brian Bogusevic, 1B

7. Christian Villanueva, 3B

8. Alberto Gonzalez, SS

9. Scott Feldman, P

When are we going to get a wgn or csn game?

    • Jeff, not King or the latest one posting as Jeff

Not till next weekend, guess WGN is slowly going to lose the Cubs, which is very sad for me. It’s what I grew up on, I’m sure it is for most of us on here.

      • J Wilson

I don’t really care about WGN games anymore, definitely not enough to lay waste to hundreds of millions of dollars. Plus, most WGN games are day games, which normal people with jobs can’t watch (live). I’ve just conceded the fact that I’ll pay the $120-150 to get MLB.tv, with no commercials. I know it’s a touchy subject, and I wish the Cubs could be adequately compensated for WGN games, but if not, bye bye.

        • Lance Dickson

Has the MLB.tv policy changed so that you can watch Cubs games if you are in Chicago?

          • Internet Random

I don’t think so… but I’d love to be wrong.

          • Dougy D

Or in Iowa! I subscribed to MLB.tv about 5 years ago when I had a temporary job in Mason City (I would guess at least 5 hours from Wrigley Field, and the cable company had Fox Sports North (Twins games)). I was blacked out of every single game. When I called MLB up about a week after subscribing, I was informed that it was solely up to the discretion of the team. I was also told that I could be blacked out of Twins, Brewers, White Sox, Royals and I believe Cardinals games in that location. So I checked the other teams and of course was not blacked out of any of those games. So when you hear me bitch about how greedy the Cubs are, now you have an idea why.

Some things about Sveum I don’t get, like his line-up. Why are you batting Navarro fifth, behind Soriano when he’s hitting a whopping .214 while Bogusevic is hitting .455?

    • Timothy Scarbrough

      Because it is spring training.

      • Tarzan Joe

Isn’t ST best used to practice what you might want to do in the reg season. So is Navarro ever going to bat 5th when the games count? Last year he batted Ian Stewart 3rd in ST. Nothing the bald one has done so far makes anyone go ” wow”! Next year is his last yr of contract. They” ll be a bad team again. And dale will be gone.

        • Pat

Navarro is not likely to ever bat fifth, but he is going to get significantly more at bats than Bogusevic. Therefore it makes more sense to get him more at bats in spring as well.

  • Jp3

It’s ST but your point is still valid, however what’s worse is that other than Alberto Gonzalez playing SS you could see this lineup several times this year…. Which is very sad…

  • Vince

Villanueva will also not be in the lineup but you are right. It is not a strong lineup and we just need to hope players can get hot and score some runs for the pitchers

  • jp

I left out Rizzo as well but any MAJOR league OF that consists of Sappelt, Bogusevic, and DeJesus a couple times a week is in serious trouble. I dont care how good Rizzo and Castro are that lineup is bare….

  • cubmig

Why all the fuss about batting order? …….the team is not hitting anyway—-no matter where they bat in the order. Check out what Sveum says on his video: http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseball/cubs/chi-video-sveum-20130310,0,5913260.story.

ST games may be meaningless, but if our guys can’t hit under decent weather conditions, I hate to see how they’ll cope at the plate under “Home” conditions……..

    • another JP

The batting order fuss is because Ricketts is cheap and Theo didn’t sign Albert Pujols, Josh Hamilton, or Robinson Cano. Yeah I know… Cano isn’t a FA yet but that doesn’t matter- we should sign him anyway. When this team only wins 10 games in April because of a tough schedule and half our lineup is on the DL, we’ll be looking at fire sale #2 and the whining will be glorious.

  • Die hard

I know it’s ST but this is not AA baseball

  • BABIP (MichCubFan)

Where are all the smart posters today? So far we have people wishing we would have beat out the Angels for Albert Pujols and then some more complaining about the Spring Training lineup…and I think they are all serious.

    A. That is a lot of money. A lot.
    B. This is Spring Training. They are trying to get different players a certain amount of ABs.

And think about it. Maybe they want Navarro, especially as a catcher, to get 2 or 3 ABs before they replace him. That would happen quicker with him hitting 5th than if he were hitting 8th or 9th. They would possibly be able to get another AB to see the catcher they bring into the ballgame.

Last year Soriano led off for a while just for that reason, and we didn’t see him leading off at all in the regular season.

There is no way this has anything to do with Navarro hitting 5th in the regular season.

Sometimes it best to just let them stomp their feet and scream.

      • Rich H

My fiance just saw the headline on the mascot and said that it should be a goat. I told her we already had a goat and went looking for your post MG! Congrats on having atleast one vote for the Cubs new mascot!

      • Cheryl

Well, it would be different with a goat. Maybe the cubs would be sending out a different message with a goat as a mascot – something different from – wait until next year. Yo can count on my vote, MG.

  • http://Bleachernation Loyal100more

Christian Villanueva sure is getting a good look at 3rd… Hmmm

    • another JP

Probably his last game before he gets sent to minor league ST.

      • fromthemitten

I think that’s more due to injuries to Vitters and Stewart than much of anything. I think he’s fourth on the depth chart for 3rd after those two and Valbuena

        • another JP

With that said, I just seen where mgmt. is considering having Stewart rehab in the minors if necessary and eating his $2M contract in the hopes he can recover and play. Sounds like a prudent approach if they think he can produce-
