Pre-Gamin’: Cubs v. Rangers (3:05 CT), A’s v. Cubs (3:05 CT) – Lineup, Broadcast Info, etc.

hohokam-park-signOnce again, we get some WGN TV action today, with the Cubs/A’s game being called by Len and JD. Over/under on Javier Baez homers is two. Maybe since he’s been cut from big league camp, he’ll go for the cycle today instead of a lame homer-binge. (Actually, you’d think after all of the hype that he might struggle today, trying to do too much. We’ll see what he’s got.)

The Rangers game is on WGN Radio, and it should also be on MLB.tv (there’s a Fox Southwest broadcast that should be picked up) for those of you with a subscription.

The big story today, other than seeing what Baez can do for an encore of an encore, is Scott Baker getting his first Cactus League start, and it’s in the game you can watch on WGN. He’s not going to start the year off the DL, so it’s not about that – but you’d like to see him look healthy, with that velocity maybe starting to tick over into the 90/91 range.

Carlos Villanueva starts for the Cubs against the Rangers in Vegas.

i’d rather have alberto gonzalez get that playing time than edwin maysonet… yikes he’s been badddd

This really speaks to the mistake of not protecting Ryan Flaherty and/or Marwin Gonzalez last year. Neither set the world on fire but they at least have upside and Flaherty would have at least given them another option at 3rd.

Marmol’s final audition before Rangers pull trigger IMO

    1. Westbound Willie

The only trigger that will be pulled will be by a cubs fan at WF after marmot walks in the winning run in the opener.

The rotation is setting up nicely.

    Or not.

Maybe if Villenueva isn’t in it. He’s been awful so fat, and he works about as quickly as Steve Trachsel

      1. rhino70

Of course, I say that and he gets a 1-2-3 inning.

You would think with today’s technology they could have a center field camera. This is a terrible way to watch the game on WGN

Beautiful swing and approach by Javy.

    1. another JP

That RBI double was an absolute bullet. Already 2 for 3 today- just hope he can keep it going in the minors after tomorrow.

A bullet by Baez! We’re going to be hearing a lot of that in the future.
