Aw, yeeeah – TV time.
Today’s game against the Brewers is on WGN-TV, so we’ll all get a chance to see Carlos Villanueva on the mound for the Cubs, as he tunes up for some starting action during the season.
We also get a chance to see Villanueva at the plate. You know, for this:

It’s like a lava lamp. Remember those? God I hope that’s still his swing.
Today’s lineup is the regular season version:
1. David DeJesus, CF
2. Starlin Castro, SS
3. Anthony Rizzo, 1B
4. Alfonso Soriano, LF
5. Nate Schierholtz, RF
6. Welington Castillo, C
7. Luis Valbuena, 3B
8. Darwin Barney, 2B
9. Carlos Villanueva, P

That looks a lot like the lineup that will start the season. I am not sure how that makes me feel but I am glad they will be getting some ABs today.
I like it. that was the first thing I thought of when I saw the lineup
Just read Jessie Rodgers chat over on ESPN, and he made several mentions of the Cubs “exploring” the idea of Chone Figgins, to fill the last spot on the Cubs roster.
I know the Cubs brain trust is big on doing their due diligence, so maybe this isn’t post worthy, but is there anyway possible Figgins could contribute as a guy who doesn’t start but can play all over the field in a pinch and be a nice bench player for us?
He can play all over …
… terribly. I really hope this is not seriously considered.
I can’t even dig up the energy to be outraged by the idea. Our infield bench is so awful, he wouldn’t even make it that much worse.
You? You whose anti-Joe Mather passion flows so freely?
Mather made the team over much better alternatives for really bad reasons.
Right now, the last position player is going to be so terrible, Figgins is barely even worse.
“…is there anyway possible Figgins could contribute as a guy who doesn’t start but can play all over the field in a pinch and be a nice bench player for us?”
No.
There just isn’t.
No.
If true…. grumble
Figgins could help us score a top3 draft pick in 2014!
Stewart could put up better numbers on the DL than Figgins on the roster.
No Thanks.
We don’t need Figgins, we have Lillibridge!!!
That swing is magical, it makes me laugh every time I see it.
Where’s Hairston and why did we sign him to mega bucks?
*sighs*
He’s on the bench. The Brewers’ pitcher is a righty. Schierholtz is a lefty. Hairston, who bats right-handed, was signed as a backup/4th OF/platoon guy for a max $6m over two years.
I mean, really. Come ON, kid. Tilt harder at those windmills.
Love the Don Quixote reference.
¿Qué?
Nice set up pitch to Arm. Next pitch threw him way off balance.
I wish we still had Aram
Great bat.
Nooooooo field.
Another lost in the sun. Always loved the pop up that hit square on the head.
I was really disappointed when we lost Brenly, but watching the game I have to say I am getting pretty optimistic about Deshaies.
You’d probably like Adolph hitler if he s the cubs announcer. Let me guess: you think kasper is very good, right?
Nein! Nein! Nein! Nein! Nein!!!
That was funny.
Villanueva line: 6 IP, 5 H, 1 BB, 4 K.
Didn’t think he had it in him. Good job.
Looks like rule 5 may just work out this year.
Rondon another good job.
Yes! Barney homers for the lead.
Bad luck for Olmsted two good breaking ball just tagged.
Holy shit Willie, don’t you think that was a bit far? I’m out, this is too much for me.
