goodyear ballparkThe Cubs head out to Goodyear to take on the Indians today (the Indians who’ve dominated the Cubs all Spring, which, like, whatever), and Chris Rusin gets the start. He was recently cut from camp, but the Cubs are keeping him on a regular start schedule (further suggesting that he’s their current sixth starter). He’ll head to AAA Iowa to start the year, but he’ll be just an elbow tweak and a phone call away.

You can watch today’s game on MLB.tv or listen on WGN Radio. Otherwise, if you get MLB Network, you can watch a replay at 6am CT tomorrow morning.

Today’s lineup was supposed to feature Dave Sappelt in the leadoff spot, but apparently he’s going to get a couple days off after taking a ball to the neck. Carlos Villanueva is under investigation.

The lineup:

1. Brent Lillibridge, CF

2. Dioner Navarro, DH

3. Anthony Rizzo, 1B

4. Alfonso Soriano, LF

5. Starlin Castro, SS

6. Scott Hairston, RF

7. Welington Castillo, C

8. Darwin Barney, 2B

9. Alberto Gonzalez, 3B

    “Carlos Villanueva is under investigation.”
Ok I’ll bite. What’s the story?

He must’ve the guy that hit Mighty Mouse.

I would like to see what Starlin looks like in that 5 hole several more times this spring before the opener. With a projected lack of production in the Cubs lineup, having Castro hit fifth rather than second may be the best option.

^^ The problem, of course, would be finding somebody to step in to hit 2nd. Barney, maybe? That scares me a little, but I don’t know who else would be a good fit.

The 2-spot is not where you want a guy with no bat.

I’m good with Castro anywhere from 2-4. Any lower and your not maximizing his abilities.

Yeah what’s the scoop on CVilla?

The Carlos ball to the neck is in reference to him saying he didn’t like speaking to other players on other teams, even if he knew them, before games – because he might have to put one in their neck. Preeeeety sure it was a joke. Pretty sure.
