Quantcast

surprise arizonaIt’s another night game for the Cubs, who’ve got just two left in the Cactus League. You can catch this one on MLB.tv, or on MLB Network on a delay … at 2am. Sleep is for idiots.

It’s Scott Feldman’s turn to tune up for the season, and he’ll go just 50 pitches or so. He’s had a rough Spring, but hopefully, by September (or at least July … ) he’ll end up being one of those guys you cite when talking about how worthless Spring Training stats are.

The lineup (which previously featured Starlin Castro, who was scratched because he’s headed out to be with his girlfriend, who is expecting their first child):

1. David DeJesus, CF

2. Steve Clevenger, 3B

3. Anthony Rizzo, 1B

4. Alfonso Soriano, DH

5. Scott Hairston, RF

6. Dioner Navarro, C

7. Brent Lillibridge, SS

8. Darwin Barney, 2B

9. Dave Sappelt, LF

Any word on if it is going to be a boy or girl? And if it’s a boy, he’ll be the next top Cubs prospect by the time Castro retires. Wishful thinking.

I’ve never seen Clevenger at third. (In the lineup, yes, but never while watching in-game action). Looking forward to tuning in. Hooray MLB.tv.

This shows that Castro is the anti-Sosa. Sosa pulled himself out of games. Castro stays in all 9 innings, 162 games a year.

    • TWC

“By pulling himself out of tonight’s game, Castro is showing that he doesn’t pull himself out of games.”

      • Timothy Scarbrough

Can you imagine if the internet ever goes completely out of use, and you had to try and explain it to your grandchildren?

        • TWC

“Back in my day, kids, we spent *hours* nitpicking complete strangers via a medium in which personal accountability was completely lacking. AH, those were the good ol’ days….”

  • http://Bleachernation Loyal100more

If he was “pulling out” there wouldn’t be a baby on the way!

    • Blank

      Yes…Yes…that’s the joke.

      • TWC

        Jokes? I get … jokes.

Better use of Barney who makes contact …..why not be creative and bat pitcher 8 and he could bunt runner along for Barney to knock him in

Not as cool as “whereabouts unknown”…but good to know where he is…

Is it just me, or does anyone else think Scott Feldman is just another Chris Volstad waiting to dump 15 losses into the L column?

    • KidCubie

Yeah i agree. He has been less than impressive.

      • http://www.Chicagocubstalk.blogspot.com Tyler

It is just disappointing because every time he starts we will know not to take the game seriously. -__-

    • TheDynastyStartsIn2016

No kidding. Spring training or not, this is embarrassing. When Brett was hoping for 50 pitches, I bet he was thinking in more than 3 innings. Anyway, on the bright side, Feldman does have a new best friend. His name is Chris Rusin.

      • http://www.Chicagocubstalk.blogspot.com Tyler

I would love to see Rusin come up and be a big arm in the lineup..Hopefully he can translate this years spring to the regular season unlike last year. And Volstad was suppose to be a pretty decent pitcher..I don’t know if he just lost his vibe or what happened to him.

        • http://www.Chicagocubstalk.blogspot.com Tyler

In the pitching rotation duh*** not lineup lol

        • CubFan Paul

Rusin had a ‘good’ Spring because he’s a rookie and the hitters had never seen/heard of him (their words not mine)…

    • http://thecubcontrarian.blogspot.com Mr. Know It All (Kyle)

Interestingly, Volstad actually had a very solid spring last year.

  • http://Bleachernation Loyal100more

I’d rather have Cory Feldman. One could call our rotation the ” lost boys of summer” but yeah I’m getting that big V vibe… Hope I’m wrong but I’m mot liking the looks of either of the Scott’s we picked up!

Chicago bears have signed a FA player a day for 6 straight days!

  • http://www.Chicagocubstalk.blogspot.com Tyler

Well hopefully Baker can come back strong from his surgery and give us something to trade away rather than another useless starting pitcher.

  • Zachary

So a year ago Castro was questioned for rape then that leaves only a few months to date someone and inpregnate her.

  • http://401klogic.net Westbound Willie

I think his girlfriend is actually the woman who he was being accused of assaulting. Glad to see that they worked everything out.

    • MichiganGoat

      Classy very classy

  • ruby2626

Feldman needs to work out whatever is troubling him in the bullpen. Just to toss him into the starting rotation when he showed absolutely nothing this entire spring shows the team Sveum does not hold players accountable.

    Rizzo got ejected! Woah!

  • Gopher Cub

Feldman gave up 7 runs. I say he is ready for the season.

  • Bill

This shouldn’t be a real big surprise. It’s not like Feldman’s numbers were real good before this year. This was Theo’s worst offseason signing, in what I thought was a pretty good offseason for Theo. I was hoping we could hide Feldman in long relief, but the injuries to Baker and Garza mean we are likely looking at the sequel to Volstad, featuring Feldman in the role of Volstad.

  • Nathan

Well, since no one else said it, congrats to Starlin on his new family.
