guillermo moscoso a'sOh, you crafty front office.

As speculated when they picked him up off of waivers two days ago, the Chicago Cubs held onto righty Guillermo Moscoso just long enough to be able to then place him back on waivers, and sneak him through to stash in Iowa. Moscoso, 29, is an intriguing swing man, and definitely the kind of pitcher who is nice to keep handy at AAA Iowa, should a need arise (and he’s got a little upside, too).

With Moscoso off the 40-man roster, there is now an open spot to add, for example, non-roster invitee Brent Lillibridge before Opening Day, which should be happening shortly. If the Cubs end up selecting lefty Hisanori Takahashi for the final bullpen spot, they’ll have to open up one more 40-man spot, which could be accomplished without losing a player by placing Scott Baker on the 60-day disabled list.

Takahashi so has not earned a spot in the bullpen. He looks like he can barely be a LOOGY.

One of the youngsters, Wade, or hopefully a Camp are all better options

Wade is no youngster. He.s thirty in a month.

      • AB

I’m pretty he was saying one of the youngsters, OR wade, OR a camp-like pickup

  • Rebuilding

Wish we would have picked up Reese Havens off of waivers from the Mets. He has never stayed healthy and is now 26, but his bat is definitely plus for the middle infield and he plays both SS and 2b

  • Mike

I like this pickup….nice rotation insurance, and obviously can handle starting and relieving. After spending an awful year at Coors Field, I think he has nice bounce-back potential.

Any chance we take a look at Darin Gorski from the Mets or David Adams from the Yankees? Adams looks like he could be a decent bench option and Gorski looks like he could be a decent lefty.

  • nkniacc13

will he be a starter or a reliever

    Bravo FO! Great move!

  • Kevin

Does this mean Guillermo Moscoso can only be called up once?

  • Joey

David Aardsma just got DFA’ed by the Yankees. Veteran arm who’s coming off Tommy John surgery. His contract is only 500K this year, maybe worth a look.

    • Melrosepad

In some ways I’d rather look at Travis Blackley who just got designated by the A’s. Pitched to a 3.86 ERA last year and could be the lefty and swing guy we were thinking Hisanori Takahashi could be.

      • Rebuilding

I like Blackley. Definitely has more than some arms on the 40 man

  • Fastball

Blackley is far better than the leftist we have in the pen. I don’t like Russell beyond middle relief. 87 mph baseball is a joke at the ML level. hope we find some better bench players than we have in camp now. Aardsma would be decent be decent depth at AAA til he is healthy.

    • Pat

      Leftists in the bullpen? Crap.

  • Die hard

He can pitch to Tony C
