pnc parkThe Cubs will try to win their first series of the year – in the actual first series of the year, as opposed to some random May series – behind Travis Wood. The temperatures should be a touch better today than they were last night, so, maybe that will somehow disproportionately help the Cubs.

The regular lineup is back to face James McDonald, save for Welington Castillo, who gets a regular day off. Hopefully Dioner Navarro’s hot Spring carries over.

Might as well just take 3 outs and skip the last 3 batters. I think Wood is a better hitter than Valbuena and Lillibridge. Darwin Barney is a triple crown threat compared to these guys.

    Brett,
It would be helpful to those of us that listen to the games at work or in the car to point out the XM radio coverage in each days Pre-Gamin’ report. For example today the Cubs are on XM channel 185 (internet 844/861).
Daily info can be found here: http://www.siriusxm.com/mlbschedule
    Just a suggestion.

Forget platoon splits and percentages… Gonzalez should be in for Lillibridge.

    What a terrible line up.

Who makes out that line up and expects to score runs?

Sveum needs to get Hairston in right every day. He can put Schierholtz in for defensive purposes at the end of games when they are leading. Hairston hit 20 home runs last year and Schierholtz hasn’t hit 20 in his career.

Sveum does not have the best line up out there to score runs.

    Wake up Sveum!

That all u got jacob? Anyway, schierholtz, valbuena, lillibridge, and the pitcher are 4 easy outs for the opposing pitcher everytime up.

    • ReiCow

I think Schierholtz doesn’t like you disrespecting him.

      Moo ;)

    Let the 2013 tank begin………….

  • Coldneck

I’d like to revise my win prediction for this team. Take it down to 62.

  • Alex

I don’t think it’s fair to group schierholtz with that group just yet, he did reach base everytime on Monday and he hasn’t sued a full season so you can’t compare him to Hairston just yet. With that being said, i never thought I’d miss Darwin Barney’s offense as much as his defense. It’s pretty bad knowing your gonna have potentially 9-12 strike out from just 3 players.

Great bullpen today!! Body feels great, arm feels great, time to build up and get ready to help the boys! #GoCubsGo

I assume he will be on the 60 day DL by the home opener.

  • Sarah

This is my first post on here, but I have been following this site for a few months now and really like the varied information on my beloved Cubs.

Being a displaced Cubs fan, (I live with my Cardinals fan boyfriend in Milwaukee) I was looking for a radio station to broadcast the games online and found this website, http://freebaseballradio.com/Chicagocubs.html. WBAT is streaming the game right now and there are a few more stations lined up to broadcast the Atlanta series.

Just thought I would share this with all of you trying to listen to the game at work. : )

    • cas-castro

I’m sorry to hear that. No one should ever have to go thru that. That’s like God having the devil for their significant other

      • Sarah

Haha, yeah I keep trying to convert him, but have been unsuccessful so far.

    • Caleb

Thanks! But unfortunately, not a single one of those 20 links work on an iPhone.

  • Leroy

    FEAR THE BEARD!!!! #travis_wood

  • rbreeze

Is it possible to put a good lineup together if we combined the Pirates and Cubs?
My goodness how ugly can they both be? Even if you combined these two with the Astros could you come up with a decent lineup? I know too many questions and not enough time.

  • Paul

Even though the offense has been absolutely atrocious, the pitching so far has been pretty solid. If the pitching can continue to do what they’ve been doing, I will consider that a small victory

  • Rebuilding

Travis Wood didn’t look great and the Pirates offense looks horrible, but that start was encouraging nonetheless

  • BluBlud

ESPN has a poll on their site about the DH. The choices were leave as is(25%), Get rid of it all together(41%), or bring it to the NL also(34%). That means 66% of the people do not want to see the DH in the NL. I hope MLB is listening.

    • http://thenewenthusiast.com dw8

      66% of what people?

    • DarthHater

MLB would probably be more interested in a poll that asks: “If the NL adopts the DH, would you respond by: (a) ceasing to pay attention to baseball; or (b) rooting for your favorite NL team to sign a big-time free agent DH?”

    • Edwin

I’d say get rid of the DH, but only have position players bat. 8 batter lineups instead of 9.

      • DarthHater

Makes sense, but will never be seriously considered for financial reasons.

  • Leroy

    James Russell!!!!!!

  • Peter

My god, can these assholes get a hit? Lillibridge and Valbuena are like a black hole in the lineup. Jeez, what an abortion of a lineup.

    • Carew

Please don’t use the term abortion

  • Rebuilding

Oh boy, Fujikawa coming in the 8th. Anyone ready for a little Marmol heartburn today?

    • Peter

I say marmol will have to blow at least 5 saves before they even think of taking him out of that role. The Cubs have a great tradition of staying with shitty closers until they REALLY force someone’s hand.

  • KidCubbie

These last two games have been a snooze fest.

  • Leroy

    Don’t bring in Marmol!!!

    • KidCubbie

I second the motion. Maybe Dale will leave Fujikawa in for 2 innings.

  • Rebuilding

Fuji looks nice. Good signing FO. Can we please get a 2 inning save. You just know Marmol is going to blow this one with a BB, HBP, strikeout, BB, double into the gap

    • JR

Not sure why. But I find this Bart pic very funny. You seem to have the right picture for every moment:) Good stuff Darth..

  • http://Bleachernation.com someday…2015?

    Fuji was filthy!

  • LouBrown

Wow, what a smooth uneventful 8th. Now tell me again, why wouldn’t we want that in the 9th instead of the usual Marmol suck-fest?

  • http://Ehanauer.com Clark Addison

I’m not looking forward to the bottom of the 9th.

  • LouBrown

Or maybe we will score five in the top of the ninth as Marmol insurance, he tried to say, before falling unconscious from laughing so hard.

  • Roger Roper

How to beat the Cubs…. Walk Rizzo and pitch right down the middle to everyone else!

  • KidCubbie

Yay Nate homers after Rizzo steals second. I dont feel so bad about Marmol coming in now.

  • terry

Now hopefully marmol won’t screw up this lead.. we can dream..

  • Alex

Told you don’t count schierholtz out yet…still not enough to keep marmol out unfortunately
