pnc parkThe Cubs will try to win their first series of the year – in the actual first series of the year, as opposed to some random May series – behind Travis Wood. The temperatures should be a touch better today than they were last night, so, maybe that will somehow disproportionately help the Cubs.

The regular lineup is back to face James McDonald, save for Welington Castillo, who gets a regular day off. Hopefully Dioner Navarro’s hot Spring carries over.

  • EQ76

we needed that cushion for the 2 runs Marmol’s about to give up.

    • Danny Ballgame

      good call

  • Die hard

    Cubs win 8-6

  • LouBrown

    and here we go….

  • DarthHater

  • LouBrown

Go out to the mound, and hand him his release.

  • Rebuilding

As Harry would have said: 3 runs will not win this game

  • DarthHater

The Cubs would get more value out of Marmol’s salary if they just put him on the sideline in a mascot costume.

  • Danny Ballgame

Words cannot describe the hatred that I have for that goddamn pitcher

  • cedlandrum

Man Rizzo has to make that freaking play. How that isn’t an error is beyond me.

    • spearman

yep, He didn’t judge that one well.

  • Mike

I’d rather have Dan Haren for one month than Marmol for the entire year.

  • Tom

A busted up Dan Haren is better than Marmol is now. Geeez is he bad.

  • LouBrown

I’d rather have an injured Dan Haren, at least from the rehab room, he would not be actively losing games for you.

  • DarthHater

And there, ladies and gentlemen, is today’s illustration of why the “Save” is an idiotic stat.

  • ReiCow

Len – “and yes, he gets the save.” BAHAHAHAHA… perfectly sums up Marmol’s performance!

  • KidCubbie

Haha. All i can do is laugh now. This is pretty sad when you can call Marmol blowing the game every time out.

  • Bill

Why were you guys nervous? This is vintage Marmol. You knew he’d get out of the jam. Haters gonna hate. :-)

  • Danny Ballgame

    Thank god

  • Rebuilding

    Hahahaha…now that’s a Carlos Marmol “save”

  • Mike Taylor (no relation)

OMG, My heart can’t take much more of Marmol. We lose that game if Schierholtz doesn’t HR or Rizzo gets thrown out at 2B…

  • BFiddy

    A Classic Marmol Save. #GoCubsGo

  • someday…2015?

I’m definitely not going to miss Marmol once he’s gone.

  • MXB

Geez Marmol. How about you psyche yourself up before the inning starts instead of after after the double play saves your crappy performance.

  • Grant

Carlos sportin’ an excellent 20.25 ERA.

    • MXB

It was 27.00 before today, so he’s improving

  • Don

How Marmol earn a save with that performance? He sucks!!!!

  • cedlandrum

I didn’t think he pitched that bad. The Martin AB he struck him out if the ump could freaking pull the trigger and then threw a couple pitches that I can’t believe Martin didn’t swing at and then the ball at Rizzo was just bad defense. He misplayed it. He did give up a sharp single to McCutchen, but the guy is a stud. It was too much but umps not calling strikes and defenders not making plays they should never helps.

    • Edward

Agreed. People always over-react the first week of the season. Tough to make any judgements based on 45 degree temps. Instead of being happy with a 2-1 start on the road against a good young team, people are upset?

Marmol is a warm-weather guy like Soriano. Watch him strike out the side on 9 pitches next game and see how many people change their mind about him.

  • Rebuilding

Seriously, just to save the clubhouse don’t you have to put that joker in long relief? Can we all agree that he’s less than 0 trade value

  • Bigg J

I just don’t get what they are wanting Marmol to do anymore. He is not the same as he has been in the past so why try and make him that way? 2 games pitched 1 BS 1.1 IP 3 ER 4H ERA 20.25 WHIP 4.50 I mean come on! How long is this going to last? If they want to win games, he is not the answer at end of the game crunch time.

    • Bigg J

Correction not 1 BS but should have been and got the hold out of it… bad

  • Alex

Please god don’t put him in long relief I can barely take one inning of him. Send him
To DL, marmols like a rule 5 pick for us

  • Peter

Marmol seriously needs to fix his mechanics, that herky jerky movement needs to go, how can anyone locate a pitch doing that shit?

  • Die hard

Our offense is not cutting it and even with Barney back need a slugger at 3B and OF

    • Edward

Dude it’s April 4th. They were playing in 40 degree weather. Of course the bats are going to be a little quiet, so were Pittsburgh’s.

Cubs won 2 close games out of 3 try to be a bit optimistic. Tough to win on the road opening series of the season when everybody is pumped up.
