Pre-Gamin’: Brewers v. Cubs (1:20 CT) – Lineups, Broadcast Info, etc.

wrigley field from right bleachersThe home opener is finally here, and apparently there’s going to be reasonably nice weather for those in attendance. Wrigley Field in April is a dicey proposition, but it’s still Wrigley Field.

Speaking of the weather, the wind is apparently howling out right now, which could make things interesting. Today’s starter, Edwin Jackson, isn’t really a groundball pitcher (though at least he’s not an extreme flyball guy), so hopefully he can keep ‘em out of the wind.

As for the Cubs, maybe the strong breeze will be what their bats need to turn some of those warning track shots into homers. Brent Lillibridge is back in the lineup after a couple days off in favor of Alberto Gonzalez.

Also back: Ryan Braun, for the Brewers. He’s been dealing with a sore neck, but he probably didn’t want to miss the opportunity to hit some long flyballs at Wrigley today.

I’m there dude. And thanks to your excellent coverage of the renovation watch I was able to answer questions from a reporter about the renovations with educated and well worded responses.

  2. ncsujuri

    Let’s go Cubbies!!!!

  3. ssckelley

Castillo hits his first home run of the year today

    1. Brian

      What a call!

    2. matty ice

Do you mind telling me what the powerball numbers are going to be, oh great one

      1. ssckelley

I wish, predicting a power hitter to jack one out with the wind howling out is much easier.

    3. wax_eagle

      Bravo.

  4. Brian

Dry and sunny in the Quad Cities, heading Chicago’s way. Cub’s 7, Brewers 4.

  5. willis

The Cubs are not good. Seeing them in Atlanta all weekend, it was just one mistake after another, so you think. Then you realize this product on the field is just pretty damn pathetic.

Saying that, home openers are always fun and exciting. For those going, hopefully the weather is ok (it was awesome all weekend down here) and that you have a great time and see a W. Looking forward to seeing EJax again.

All that, and you didn’t even go with Todd Bridges.

  6. Idaho Razorback

I’m so ready! It’s not baseball weather here in North Idaho, mid 30′s with rain.

  7. DCF

Just finished Dinner Reading Grisham’s introduction to Baseball in the fortwarf of calico Joe. Now I’m ready to go!

  8. Dave

When I was younger opening day was a holiday for me.
I still look forward to it but not with the excitement.

  9. Jeff

Number #1 draft pick 2014…..Here we come !!!!!

  10. reipar

I took the day off for this?!? No way the cubs will score 4 runs. This game is already over.

  11. matty ice

    What does attendance look like?

  12. Peter

I’m excited to see who our first round draft pick will be next year!!!!

    1. Jeff

It should be a good pick, we will be choosing early in the draft. :)

    2. npnovak

      don’t forget this year’s draft

  13. Mike

Unfortunately, looks like we’re working on losing more than 101 games this year….but I think that was already the plan for next year’s draft position. I do hope we trade off mlb pieces sooner than later. Get what you can now and play more kids….we’re not going anywhere this year anyway.

  14. CBP

All are pitchers are the same. Inconsistent and terrible at throwing strikes.

  15. Idaho Razorback

I thought Edwin Jackson was starting today, not Marmol.

  16. caryatid62

    This team sucks.

And it’s not getting better anytime soon. At least three more seasons of this (after this crappy one) are likely. Awesome.

  17. Jeff

I have some friendly advice for Theo & Jed, use every pick in the next two drafts on pitching, don’t waste a single pick on a position player. As much as they liked Almora, a pitcher would have been a better choice.

    1. YourResidentJag

They should have drafted Appel with the #6 pick last year and then gotten Manea or Gray this year. Your ResidentJag agrees wholeheartedly.

      1. DarthHater

YourResidentBag doesn’t refer to himself in the third person for the sake of YourResidentBag. YourResidentBag refers to himself in the third person because YourResidentBag is YourResidentBag.

        1. YourResidentJag

This ^ the very definition of verbal diarrhea. :)

          1. DarthHater

Tribute to South Park, dude. :-P

  18. Bigg J

Cubs going to get Beliveau back since was just DFA’d?

  19. Smackafilieyo

Thank you soriano for breaking up the no no…haha, j/k

  20. CBP

Well hopefully we can make a come back… And pray Marmol syndrome strikes the brew crew

  21. TJ

Understanding it’s very early in the season, Castillo appears to be emerging as a “core” piece, just as Samardzija did last year.

  22. Peter

Jeez, Rizzo is showing absolutely no plate discipline, swinging at absolute garbage. He better get his act together, he is swing at shit WAY out of the strike zone. If he keeps that up, he is gonna find his ass back in triple A

    1. TWC

      No, he won’t.

    2. terencemann

It might seem like he’s swinging at a lot, but he’s actually swung at pitches outside the zone (and pitches in general) at a lower rate this past week than he did last year.

      http://www.fangraphs.com/statss.aspx?playerid=3473&position=1B#platediscipline

  23. RY34

wow another leadoff man in scoring position stranded, go figure!

  24. Roger Roper

I’m convinced God does not like the Cubs. That is all.

  25. Smackafilieyo

Can it get any worse than our 2nd and 3rd basemen could hit the broadside of a barn, our lead off hitter is terrible, and meat of our order (Rizzo, Soriano) are blowing goats right now. On top of that, do we take walks and/or work counts?

  26. terencemann

I just saw that the Cubs IBB’d Yuniesky. Fire everyone.

    1. Cubbie Blues

Exactly, a HBP is much better.

  27. Beardface

God damn I’m sick of sucking all the time!

    1. TWC

You’re really setting yourself up there, kid.

      1. arta

        lol.

    2. Cubbie Blues

      Your knees hurt?

Hope you stop before you get to Braun.

Does the beard get in the way?

    3. frank

      Too easy.

  28. Cubbie Blues

It’s my anniversary and the wife just got home. This game better hurry up so I don’t get in trouble.

  29. WilliamGlass

While I am not thrilled, I am not too concerned about Edwin Jackson. He had some really bad luck, I couldn’t believe Lucroy made contact with that ball in the dirt before walking. That being said, he is not a second starter and I can not wait for Garza to come back.
