wrigley field from right bleachersI’m still mad at you, wind.

The Cubs will try to even the series at one with the decimated-but-still-able-to-beat-the-Cubs Brewers. Travis Wood takes the ball, and he picked the right day – the last time he pitched at Wrigley with the wind howling out, he gave up five homers to the Cardinals. Tonight, the wind isn’t expected to be blowing out like it was yesterday. It’s actually looking like it might be blowing in.

Of course, as we saw yesterday, that can change on a dime.

Brent Lillibridge is going to get a hit tonight. He has to. His OPS+ can’t stay -100 forever.

  • Mike

Yuniesky Betancourt is better than Lillibridge, and both came off the scrap heap. Lillibridge, 16 at bats, 7 Ks.

  • http://bleachernation allen

    Wow! We suck!

  • Bill S

You know your team is bad when you have a bench player batting 5th..

    • Mike

At least he’s hitting better than DeJesus, Soriano, Valbuena, Rizzo and Lillibridge.

      • Bill S

        Sad, but true.

  • Rsquared

Sad when our starting pitcher has to throw a complete game shutout to get a win. At this rate we will be lucky to have a six win starter!

    • Bill S

Don’t forget the part where our pitchers have to hit home runs to supply the offense..

  • Mike

Typical Cubs these past few years: decent pitching and almost zero offense. Get a couple decent hitters on this team, and we might actually get around or above .500 record

  • X The Cubs Fan

Rondon looks like a decent Mid Reliever seems like a good chance he sticks.

  • Rsquared

    Lillibridge sucks!!!!

  • wkranz54

Lillibridge is soooo bad. He is just completely lost up there. The ball that won’t off his foot was the hardest hit ball he has had this season.

    • wkranz54

I’m so flustered I can’t even form grammatical sentences.

      • Rsquared

        Loud noises!

Barney is back on Monday! Squeeeeel

That’s why Castro is our shortstop.

  • Rebuilding

It worker out, but why the hell is Svuem having Castillo bunt there? Just bad percentage move. Stuff like that makes me wonder whether he’ll be our manager when we’re good again

    • Drew7

I was thinking the same thing. Reminds me of him having Castro bunt with 2-on, none out last year.

      • DocPeterWimsey

Ordinarily, I would agree. However, it is the 8th inning, and that was the go-ahead run on a night with the win blowing in. So, I’m less down on it than I usually would be. (I’d rather play for the 3 run inning: but hey! presto! that happened anyway, thanks to the dubious intentional walk and the subsequent earned walk.)

        • Rebuilding

I hate to give up any outs to Axford right now. Man, what has happened to him?

    • Drew7

Also, we really don’t know if it “worked out” yet: Axford threw 1 strike that entire inning.

But whatever – this offense is so good, they can afford to give up outs, right?

      • DocPeterWimsey

I just realized that I have Axford on one of my fantasy teams. (I was working during the draft and didn’t notice that he was there due to some amazingly good starting pitching!) I designated him for dog food.

  • Rebuilding

Looks like we are going to pull this out. Brent Lillibridge has to go – when you have to pinch hit Navarro for him then you really put the team in a bad position. If we would have gone to extras it might have gotten strange if something happened to Castillo

  • BubblesHargrave

I thought Marmol wasn’t going to pitch in close games?

    • Rebuilding

Yeah, it was interesting they put him in in a high leverage situation. We were one great Castro play from things getting really ugly with the fans still out there and on this board

  • Jp3

I know Brett Lillibridge sucks has been posted already but aside from the fact he’s still hitting .000 through 17 ABs I’d also like to point out that he’s struck out in 7 of those. When we get the DH in the National league I think if we still have Lillibridge you seriously have to consider using the DH for him.

  • BubblesHargrave

Anyone else enraged that Marmol was brought in in the 8th?

It looks like Fuji is real good at changing speeds!

  • Oldstyle1908

Talk about a “feel good win”…Marmol has a decent inning and gets the win, and new close Fujikawa with the save!
