wrigley field from right bleachersAssuming the weather holds out …

Ryan Vogelsong was a feel good story for Giants fans in recent years, having come out of obscurity in his 30s to be something of a quality starter. Here’s hoping that story has a down chapter today.

Scott Feldman gets the go for the Cubs after last night’s cancellation. He could use a good start. Last time out against the Braves, I really liked the look of his stuff, but he simply couldn’t command it.

Also, Brent Lillibridge: get a hit today. Do it for yourself.

  • Dynastyin2016

Weather is ugly out here. Hope this one gets in.

  • KidCubbie

What’s sad is that those stat lines make Feldman look like the better pitcher.

  • TampaCubsFan

Let’s hope Lillibridge grounds out to second base and keeps running right out the stadium doors in right field. It pains me to read in previous articles what the Cubs did(adding Gonzlaez to 40 man) and lost(Whitenack)!!!!!

    • http://thenewenthusiast.com dw8

FWIW, Whitenack has already been DFA’s by Cleveland.

  • Jeremy

Anyone want to start taking bets on when Lilli”can’t hit the broad side of a”bridge finally gets a hit and raises his average to a smoking .050?

    I’ll say he won’t get a hit until the 15th game…

  • Red Baron 42

Why Lillibridge? It has to be asked

    • wvcubsfan

      handedness???

  • Jp3

This crappy weather I see Brent Lillibridge breaking out with a swinging bunt on a swampy infield, I’m beginning to hope he doesn’t get a hit though…

  • KidCubbie

Any chance they keep Gonzalez on the roster and send Lillibridge down when Barney comes back?

  • Jp3

    Send him to Kane County?

  • JulioZuleta

Five game suspension. I think the reasonable people among us can conclude the report of “attacking the other dugout with a bat” was overblown and highly misleading. Good to hear.

  • Jp3

Why the insult of putting Feldman after him? Scott should be pissed he hits after him

  • North Side Irish

Soler 5 game suspension from the FSL

  • Jp3

I called a swinging bunt by Lillibridge today, guess it wasn’t a hit but at least he got a run in…

  • Jp3

Sweet Lilly is up with the bases full…

  • Jp3

I just swallowed my whole foot, Lilly got an actual hit, BIG-GAME-LILLY

  • KidCubbie

Holy crap Lilly got a hit with the sacks full.

  • RY34

Holy Shit, Lillibridge can actually hit the ball!!

  • cubzforlife

Im digging Brett’s prediction on Lilli’s hiit. And Feldmans doing Ok. My co worker Is the goofy looking over weight guy on the cell phone behind home. We sold one of the office girls from the Cubs a new Hyundai and he has gotten tix to two games from her already. Good seats too!

    • ETS

I can say it’s going to rain everyday and eventually, it will.

      • DarthHater

I can say the Cubs will win a World Series everyday and eventually … awww crap! :-P

  • Rebuilding

What an ugly inning. I see why some are intrigued by Feldman’s potential, but he’s so I athletic that any ball to the right side is going to be a bang bang play. We’ve also seen good Castro and bad Castro

    • Rebuilding

      *Unathletic

      • DocPeterWimsey

Well, general athleticism never has been that important for successful pitching: they are about as specialized as any athlete there is. Of course, the same is true of batters: and, let’s face it, most decathalon gods/goddesses would be lousy baseball players.

        • Rebuilding

Obviously. Those were two different thoughts in the same sentence. Feldman’s stuff is good. I like the way he pounds the bottom of the zone. Command is the issue and he seems to try to over grip his breaking ball sometimes so it’s to see it coming. And he has trouble getting to first base

          • DocPeterWimsey

That said, whenever people write that MLB teams should find a spare crew of MLB-quality pitchers and make the “real” pitchers face 40-50 “live” pitches every day between starts in hopes of making them batters, I always think that they should spend any spare time working on first base drills with the infielders. That is one of the few things in baseball where individual player rapport can be important, and whereas there is no way to make 99% of pitchers batters, you could make them better fielders.

  • Coop

When do we stop talking about the potential of Castro to be an above average defensive player and just acknowledge that he makes too many dumb errors?

  • RY34

jesus christ, typical cub walk the damn pitcher w the bases loaded, worthless

  • Mike

Takahashi walks THE PITCHER with the bases loaded. I really hope we release this guy soon. I think every player should be docked a month’s pay for walking a PITCHER with the bases loaded.

  • Mike

Bring up Chris Rusin to be the long reliever/second lefty. Takahashi has to go.

  • RY34

god this team is such horseshit, 20 batters allowed in 2 innings, great job cubs!

  • Rebuilding

From what little we’ve seen of Takahashi = not impressed. Very hittable with no movement, when he actually gets the ball over the plate.

  • Mike

Meanwhile, the good news of today: Lillibridge finally gets a hit. And Soler is only suspended 5 games for getting upset over the opposing team trashing his family. Soler will be fine and in Chicago in a year or two. He’s a kid, lost his temper…big deal…at least he has some fire in him.

    • Pat

He didn’t get suspended for getting upset. He got suspended for assault. And who gives a shit if the guy insulted his family. Does that supposedly justify it somehow? I’m glad he isn’t going to lose a big chunk of time, but all the justifications on here are ridiculous. Someone “dissing” you or your family does not justify threatening them with a bat.

      • Mike

Maybe the opposing team shouldn’t have opened their mouths…and there wouldn’t have been a problem.

        • Mike

And, he didn’t assault anyone. He might have, but he didn’t. Big difference.

          • Pat

You might want to look up the definition of assault. What you’re referring to is battery.

            • Mike

He didn’t assault anyone. He grabbed at bat and went towards the oppositions dugout. How is that assault, moron?

              • DarthHater

Battery = intentional and wrongful physical contact with a person

Assault = any willful attempt or threat to inflict injury upon a person

You might want to try being a little less free in throwing around words like “moron,” especially if you aren’t even going to look up the meaning of the terms you are arguing about.

          • Mike

It’s ridiculous to assume that a player can’t act when an opposing player gives him sh*t. Stand up for your family or roll over. The choice seems simple. Soler should have just walked over there without a bat in his hands and chewed out the guy, or gave him a punch to his face. Don’t talk sh*t about my family.

            • Pat

Nothing anyone says to you gives you the right to threaten them. Being offended or insulted does not justify assault

              • Mike

                You’re an ignorant idiot.

                • Pat

You have no idea what was said so hit the road, chief Sosa.

              • Mike

I’ve read quotes from Theo. I can actually read and research. Get a life, ignoramus..

    • Mike

      Nice one!

    • cubfanincardinalland

No out pitch. AAA stuff. Chris Rusin should be pitching right now.

      • Mike

        Agreed.

  • Rebuilding

I like some Jim DeShaies. Was sorry to see Brenly go, but we might have pushed or even upgraded slightly

  • Rebuilding

I know it’s early, but why wouldn’t Sveum have a righty up in the pen when it looked like Posey might come up with the bases loaded? This is literally the game right here

    • Mike

Because Sveum sucks. He might make a good manager in 5 years from now.

  • Rebuilding

I’m thinking we should run a novel platoon with Soriano where someone else plays the first 2 months and he plays the last 4

    • Mike

I wouldn’t be entirely opposed to that. At least sit Soriano most of April, let his knees get a rest from that cold weather he’s so worried about.

  • Rebuilding

Bright spot of the season for me so far is Castillo. He looks really confident at the plate and much improved behind it. If he can become a core piece it would REALLY help

    • Mike

I agree. If we can get a 3rd baseman that can actually hit, at least with runners in scoring position, we could actually have a decent year.

    • Trigger

Yes, Castillo has been a bright spot so far. I’d say Schierholtz is also looking good so far. I’m happy to see those two producing. 2B and 3B have been horrible. And Soriano needs to get it going. If Barney and Stewart can come back and hit above expectations…
