wrigley field from right bleachersThe injury bug just won’t leave the Cubs alone, as Kyuji Fujikawa heads to the DL after visibly struggling yesterday. But, the Cubs move on.

It’s a hell of a pitching matchup today, as Madison Bumgarner always dominates the Cubs, and Jeff Samardzija always dominates everyone*. The Cubs are going with their all-righty-except-for-Rizzo lineup, and hopefully today’s the day it finally works.

First time I’ve commented Brett, find I actually like what is bantered around on BN. All righty lineup except for Rizzo! Why not give him a rest, he is swinging or not at the worst pitches. Already seems like we are trying to let the players work out of their 40 at bats slump, like Sori just so we can get more trade value.

  • Rudy

Sounds like a good day to bet the under!

  • Jp3

Glad we could get Lilly’s big bat back in the lineup… At what point does it matter that Lilli is a right handed bat in the lineup?

  • baldtaxguy

    On paper….Ughh!!

    They’ll probably score 10 runs today :)

  • X The Cubs Fan

Giants lineup doesn’t seem as scary as they should.

  • FarmerTanColin

First time I saw Lillibridge in the dugout I assumed he was the bat boy, still not convinced otherwise. Think I’d rather see Augie Ojeda in there.

  • Jed Jam Band

The Cubs will probably lose today. On the other hand, Bumgarner is a fun name to say out loud.

  • MightyBear

The Cubs should be 6-4 and tied for first with the Cardinals. If the pitching can keep it up and the bats come to life, this team could make some noise.

    • hawkcub

      I agree Mighty Bear.

  • Kyle

I’m definitely not giving up yet. We need to get back up to .500. Stay out of the “excuse to sell off” range.

    • MightyBear

      I agree K-man.

  • Jp3

I don’t want to but we’re trying to lose with Lilly starting every day and waiting too long to get Marmol out of town.

    • willis

      Ha, he’s hitting .048. That’s LOL funny.

  • a_mazz_ing

Dave Sappelt. Brent Lillibridge. Alberto Gonzales…. I wanna puke. Shark is the best hitter 7-1 today….

    • willis

Not to mention the 3,4,5 today are .162, .179, .125. Yes it’s early but that’s just plain ugly.

Wellington and Starlin swinging the bats well though.

      • MIkeL

While we are at it, the giants need to get rid of that buster posey guy…..222 0 HR and 4 RBI.

  • morgan

enough is enough, Lillibridge needs to go, the dude sucks, Theo n Jed aren’t even giving the Cubs a chance with the players being thrown out there, Theo has shown in 2 years that he doesn’t know how to put together a bullpen, Your telling me he cant find a better replacement then these scrubs, Go get Ryan Roberts from Tampa theres plenty of players out there better than these schmucks

    • willis

Well, I understand (kinda) wanting to go all righty, but when that means the pieces of garbage that are available..give me a break. These lineups are basically admitting defeat before they even play.

  • morgan

they could of had Derosa for the same price

  • morgan

this isn’t rebuilding its giving the Cubs no chance to win

  • Jp3

I’m all for a rebuild but you can’t field this group of clowns and tell everyone this is the best you can do when you have a fanbase that’s waited over a century

Brett, who goes down to Iowa when Barney is recalled? Lilli or Gonzalez? If they went to the trouble of adding Gonzalez to the 40 man would they DFA Lillibridge? (fingers crossed he gets claimed)

Nothing personal to Lilli but the dude is a 26/27th man on a decent roster. I could care less about his versatility if he can’t even hit his own paltry weight.

Have to say I’m growing more and more upset with Jed and Theo being bitten by the very stats they said a front office evaluator can’t let themselves be bitten by. Spring training numbers. Let it be clear I wholeheartedly believe in Jed and Theo but every GM/President is going to have some bad moves on their record. Lilli appears to be just that.

  • JulioZuleta

Something’s not right with Shark. I think he might skip a start aftet this. He won’t throw his fastball. Also, I cannot wait til Lillibridge and Gonzalez are gone.

  • JR

Who is the projected #1 pick in 2014? I think the Cubs can finally overtake the Astros in loserness.

  • ProfessorCub

    Navarro is Babe Ruth

  • JulioZuleta

People who act like the Cubs being bad is shocking: They are better than, the same as, or within one game of 15 teams in the league record wise. Also, what did you expext?

  • Mike

If Sveum has to choose between Lillibridge and Gonzalez being sent down/released, my vote is for Lillibridge to get let go. At least Gonzalez can hit a little and take the occasional walk.
