wrigley field from right bleachersThe Cubs welcome the Rangers to Wrigley Field for their first interleague series of the year. Hopefully Lance Berkman, who isn’t starting, gets into the game tonight.

The Cubs made a flurry of roster moves before the game, and they’re detailed here. The short version is you might see Kevin Gregg tonight and go, “whaaa?” and not see Brent Lillibridge tonight and go, “aaaah.”

Travis Wood gets his third start of the year, and he looked mighty good in his first two. It’s obviously quite a test this time around against a stacked Rangers lineup.

On the other side of the bump is fellow lefty Derek Holland, who’ll face a considerably less intimidating, but very right-handed, Cubs lineup.

The Cubs will all be decked out in number 42 tonight to honor Jackie Robinson, and you’ll see other instances commemorating Robinson all around the park.

I’m hoping that guys like Bruno, Andreolli, and Torreyes can keep hitting all the way thru AAA next year and give us some betterr offensive options at 2nd/3rd base… Gonzalez, Stewart, Valbueno, Barney, etc. just aren’t gonna cut it. And notice how I didn’t include Baez in the mix… looks like he’s following the six year plan to the majors right now.

  • Mr.Boring

This team might set a record for most games lost in a season. I think the model needs torn down again.

Can anybody really say I’m wrong?

This bunch will loose faith in Sveum soon and mission is lost. This is the last summer evening, (32 in Iowa tonight:) that I waste watching this crap. I believe in rebuilding, but damn…….. this is a sell out for “hopefully trade bait.”. Anybody pays a dollor over “free” for ticket to watch this outfit is a fool. I can justify if you want to see a legit team, if that’s the opposition.

I hate to say, but I hope nobody comes anymore to the games. Wake these “developers” up.

Have a good summer friends. I’m going to play golf and check in during September. This is brutal.

    • MikeL

They aren’t going to set the record for losses. Keep in mind that they don’t even have the worst record in the league this year and they are playing against very good teams.

    • http://401klogic.net Westbound Willie

I’m shocked that there’s still a few hundred people watching this group of nitwits. Where is the self pride? Don’t these people have anything else to do?

      • Cubbie Blues

Well, you’re here and since we know how you feel, what does that say about you?

        • MichiganGoat

I’m watching at home with the Len mute button on. Watching the game was entertaining at its highest level.

Westbound Willie, my thoughts exactly. I didn’t mean to check in again……….just shutting down computer for the night. If anybody knows Sveum’s address, Please send. I will be more then happy to send him a razor so he stops looking like a railroad bum in his final season as a big league manager. Hit’em straight boys, and “Go Hawkeyes!”

    • Dynastyin2016

I suggest we keep ALL sharp objects away from Sveum.

  • Rebuilding

You know who would have been nice to have as a utility guy is Marwin Gonzalez who is 25 and hitting .360 with 2 HR and 4 BBs as the Astros now starting SS. Wonder where he came from?

    • Can’t think of a cool name

You mean the guy with a .607 OPS last year and a .662 career OPS in the minors?

      • Rebuilding

No, the guy who put up a 750 OPS in AA and AAA as a 22 yo switch hitting SS. Or the guy who put up a 908 OPS in AAA last year. Obviously he shouldn’t have been in the bigs last year and was stashed as a Rule 5

  • Jason

C’mon, can’t they just lose regularly? I can’t take much more of this coming close late only to come up short stuff.

    • HoustonTransplant

Totally agree. It’s getting old. How many “almost” games can there be?

  • http://Bleachernation.com someday…2015?

How many different heartbreaking losses can the Cubs suffer from in one month!

    • MichiganGoat

I’d rather have these losses than games where there is no drama.

      • Matty Ice

A loss is a loss is a loss

        • MichiganGoat

And a great game is a great game regardless of the outcome

          • Matty Ice

Tom Ricketts checkbook would like to thank you for your ignorance.

            • MichiganGoat

sigh… enjoying hating life there buddy

              • Matty Ice

I don’t hate life. I have plenty of extra money from not purchasing tickets, merchandise, etc. to watch a AAAA team play baseball everyday.

              • Matty Ice

Obviously, I have nothing on your blissfully ignorant life though.

                • MichiganGoat

You enjoy complaining and overreacting because you never know the sky might actually fall.

                  • http://Bleachernation.com someday…2015?

I didn’t mean to cause an argument, sorry Brett. While I agree with you Goat that playing a competitive game is better then not being competitive at all, I just can’t stand watching all the different heartbreaking losses. Upton bros. up 5-0. Marmol. Camp with one strike. Tonight. And I’m missing a few. It’s been a crazy year to say the least. Now will that stop me from going to Cubs games? Hell no!!! I will be going to Wrigley till the day I die wether they are worst or first. When you truely got blue in your blood it never leaves! Go Cubbies!

                    • MichiganGoat

No worries buddy, it’s an honest response it’s the rest of the boycott complainers that get my… well… you know ;)

  • MichiganGoat

Tonight’s game is why you go see baseball, we may have lost but that was a great ending.

    • http://401klogic.net Westbound Willie

Then why don’t you go? Splurge and buy a five dollar ticket on stubhub.

      • Cubbie Blues

I just spent $430 on tickets two days ago plus hotel. Thank you, I think I will go.

        • MichiganGoat

But they might lose… RABBLE RABBLE RABBLE

          • Cubbie Blues

And I will still enjoy seeing my Cubs play ball against the Reds.

            • MichiganGoat

Exactly and Negative Nancy will still complain, enjoy the game… That’s the reason we have sports- enjoyment, but some people don’t get that. Wish I could join you at that game.

              • Cubbie Blues

I’m going with my wife’s sister and her husband. They are Reds fans and love going to Wrigley. We are actually going for his birthday.

                • MichiganGoat

Enjoy, nothing better than going to Wrigley with your family. But if they lose you are required to complain about everything and boycott the team… mkay ;)

                  • hansman1982

Can we get an early Festivus Miracle!

          • TWC

Hey, Willie. You’re acting like a bit of a dick. Could you, perhaps, be *less* of a dick?

            • MichiganGoat

              Kinda it’s well past that

          • Cubbie Blues

Price is always dependent on where you sit, which game you go to and how many seats you need together. Oh, and you don’t even know how many seats that money buys, but thanks for the congrats we are pretty excited to go. We didn’t think we were going to make it this year.

      • MichiganGoat

How about $5 dollars for you to go away and complain on another site?

  • Bilbo161

This is why we should hope for one or two guys to surprise and get called up, and contribute. It can happen damnit!
