miller parkThe Cubs will try again today, and might actually win if they don’t immediately fall behind 4-0. Edwin Jackson will look for his first completely good start, as opposed to five great innings and a couple crappy ones.

Rookie Hiram Burgos makes his debut for the Brewers. May he be greeted less than warmly.

  • Rizzo44

GO CUBS!!!! No Castillo though, Navarro will hit a go ahead homer in the 8th, but someone will probably blow it…..

    • Falselife

      Edwin Jackson + Navarro = 4 WP/PB

      • Rizzo44

Yeah, i know. Another reason of thinking about firing Sveum..

      • koyiehillsucks2

not the best decision, that’s for sure…

  • mudge

Sveum’s skills are those of a great bench coach, not a great manager, is the story so far.

    • MightyBear

Sveum, like most great managers, will become a great manager when he gets great players.

    • Rizzo44

Yepp. Why not just let Theo be manager?? haha

  • Caleb

That Burgos kid was the brewer pitcher of the year. And he dominated WBC. A good flier fantasy pickup (mine) but could be trouble.

  • Kyle

Not at all impressed with the scouting report on Burgos. 88-91 MPH fastball and a variety of ok breaking stuff. Nothing to be scared of at all.

    • Rcleven

      Unless your a Cub hitter.

    • Falselife

That’s the worst type of pitcher for the Cubs…doesn’t bode well for this evening.

  • Zachary

    Is Brett Jackson been hurt

    • MichiganGoat

      Yes jammed toe

  • Tyler

Oh, a pitcher is making his major league debut against the Cubs? Of course he’ll dominate. (See- Travis Wood, Mike Leake, Jordan Lyles, etc.)

  • Die hard

Sveum needs to tell Jackson he’s staying in for 8 innings no matter what so he will have right attitude going in… Then Sveum needs to stick to it

  • Clay

I thought the game is on CSN? All im getting is tge stupid Bulls pregame

    • Njriv

      Hey, you watch your mouth.

    • arta

lol, they were on the alternate CSN.

  • Clay

I didnt say the actual Bulls game..i said pregame lol

    • Njriv

Haha its all good. Yeah, I’m having the same problem. This scheduling issue is unlikely of CSN.

      • Clay

Do u know what channel its been moved too?

  • Mike

Can we just start Borbon in CF and have him bat leadoff? I really like DeJesus, but he doesn’t steal bases (or, Sveum doesn’t have him run). It would be nice to avoid double plays and actually have our leadoff hitter be able to actually steal bases throughout the year…not 7 for the entire year (like DeJesus’ total SB numbers from last year).

    • Drew7

Here’s the thing about being able to steal bases: you have to get on base first.

  • Mr.Boring

This is why I hate the Cubs these days. I said I wouldn’t watch again this year. But it’s cold and nothing else to watch. Having DirectTV, I’m blocked from watching the worst team baseball????. Theo, Jed……… Kiss my ass. You have officially lost a fan. Go Royals.. New Wrigley needs to be named “The Friendly Confines of Losers Field.” Glad you folks are paying the bill and not me. This is a joke and most of you are taking the bait. This team will set a record for the worst record in history. This is a joke! Officially Goodbye fello Mates. They will set a loosing record…… laugh all you want, but you wont be laughing in August.

    • DarthHater

Goodbye. Don’t let the falling concrete hit you in the ass on your way out.

      • MichiganGoat

Here’s a case of Old Style for all your trouble have a great day.

    • Timothy Scarbrough

It might be hard to have the worst record in history, they’ve already ceded the Marlins 2 and a half games, and the Marlins are pretty tough to lose too.

      • DarthHater

    • Brett

Pro-tip: If you’re going to pretend to be a Cubs fan to troll Cubs fans on a Cubs blog, don’t use an email address with “Sox” in it.

      • hansman1982

      • MikeW

        Ha. Good shit Brett.

      • arta

        lol, I like that.

  • R Younggren

Another great offensive performance by the cubs against a nobody!

  • Troy

In other news Ian Stewart finally got a hit

  • YourResidentJag

As Theo and his fans say, “You gotta be patient. SOMETHING will eventually happen.”

May as well talk about who’s actually trade-able given what seems to be a team trending much like last years. I’m going to put guys into three groups of likeliness to be dealt.

    Group A: DeJesus, Villanueva, Garza

Group B: Soriano, Feldman, Barney, Schierholtz, Marmol

    Group C: EJax, Valbuena

Hard to see much value coming back for anyone besides Garz. I suppose Theo/Jed could package Villanueva with either DDJ, Barney or Schierholtz to get another Vizcaino type return. If we’re going to lose 90+ again hopefully Garza can pitch well enough to garner a return we all want.

  • hansman1982

What’s the score? I don’t get CSN and gameday isn’t working with a darn.

    • Nebraska Cubs

      5-1 Top 8 Brewers

  • Die hard

5 runs + 1 = 6 – that magical 6 is needed again to win and avoid 100 losses as I have been preaching which will be true until drastic changes made starting with Sveum

    • Timothy Scarbrough

The Cubs, going into this game, have allowed on average 4 1/3 runs per game. Depending on how the runs are distributed, the Cubs could pretty easily be over .500 and only have scored 5 runs a game, which, would be below your magic number.

  • cubmig

Suckdom hit a new low today the way the Cubs played —or is it: “didn’t play”? It was an embarrassment. I am particularly pissed at Rizzo, Castro and sadly—-EJ for that air ball he mailed into center on what should have been an easy out. And as for their offense…..well, there wasn’t any. I swear—– if Theo& Co expect us to watch this shit and hope to be shielded from criticism with urgings of “be patient”, they need to get their collective head out of their ass. Tonght’s baseball performance had no affirming qualities. It was anemic and sick. How is a Cubs fan to survive absent feelings of promise?

  • cub2014

Diehard your killing me! if the cubs scored 6 runs a game
they would have the best record in baseball. 100 wins not
100 losses. Problem is they are going to score closer to
4 runs per game which will translate to 90 losses. We should.
be more worried about rizzo & castro’s (the future) defense
Better get that figured out.I know this is irrational but lets get
Solar & Baez up asap, at least by September. Baez at 3b
and Solar in left. Trade Dejesus for a solid prospect (one that
could be used to get Price next year) and put Borbon in lead-
    off spot. Why not.

  • Jp3

I love Baez too, unfortunately hitting around .200 with a ton of Ks in High A baseball will get you nowhere near Chicago. Unless you continue to swing and miss then he may end up in Kane County.

    • cub2014

I know I know! Baez isnt ready but if he gets to Tennessee
this year he may get his call up. I hope by June they get
rid of Maysonette(age 32?) at Iowa then they will move
Alcantera to Iowa which would leave shortstop opening in
      Tennessee (Baez?).
