Quantcast

marlins home run sculptureThe Cubs look to take a commanding 2-0 series lead tonight on the back of Scott Feldman, who could really, really, really use a good start. This is your chance, Scott. Terrible lineup in a very pitchable park. Just throw strikes.

Anthony Rizzo doesn’t get the day off, even against a lefty, which is surprising to me. It seems like he could use a night to rest and collect his thoughts, but, hey, the coaches know him better than we do. Maybe he’s a “play through it” kind of guy.

(And 1.5 hours and counting left to join the BN Fantasy contest … )

  • mudge

Let’s see if Ransom and Barney can’t put some runs on the booooooooooooaaaaaaaaaard YESSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!

    • SirCub

Oh good gracious, why would you invoke that evil phrase.

  • RY

If volstad, i mean Feldman can’t get his first win tonight, i am not sure he will win at all this year!

    • auggie1955

Isn’t it funny – I thought the Cubs would be an improved team merely by getting rid of Voldstad. Feldman has really stepped up and shown that wasn’t the case.

      • willis

Feldman…he’ll go 3.1 or so really good innings then give up a ton of runs blowing a 3 run or so lead. Book it.

        Go Rizzo!

        • Kubphan82

Madame Cleo called and said you can keep her crystal ball…

  • Koyie Hill Sucks

Hopefully the cubs can hit this lefty…

  • Chuckles

LeBlanc ain’t been much to write home about either.

  • Patrick W.

Jon Heyman pointed out via twitter that Giancarlo Stanton hit the 2003 WS sign 100 ft above the LF fence in bp and then wondered if it was “turnaround time for him?”

I think, based on that one swing in batting practice, Stanton will hit 11 home runs tonight.

    • BluBlud

you are setting the Bar to high. There is no way he hits 11. Maybe more like 7 or 8.

      • Patrick W.

        Yeah but 100 feet…

    • Rebuilding

I think Stanton will be demanding a trade sooner rather than later. He is probably seen 10 decent pitches all season and is swinging at everything. Absolutely no reason to pitch to him in that lineup

      • Chuckles

I’m pretty sure all the Marlins players are trying to get out of Miami.

  • mysterious4th

The Marlins line-up reminds me of the Cubs last year.

  • Jason

God, that HR had to be like 500 feet. Go Cubs!

  • Die hard

At the very least switch Rizzo with Soriano

  • IndyCubsFan

Feldman’s curve ball is NASTY tonight! Goodness!

  • Rebuilding

Baez starting to heat up. A single and double tonight. Up to .253 BA

  • Rebuilding

Pierce Johnson throwing well at Kane County tonight. 5 IP 1 ER ERA down to 3.63

  • Mike

Did someone mention giving Rizzo a day off? He said no thank you…

  • nosup4u

    Double Rizzomg !!!!

  • Die hard

Kudos to Sveum for hitting Rizzo 3rd

    • MichiganGoat

Didn’t you once suggest moving him out of the three hole?

      • TWC

        Yeah, like every damn day.

        • Cubbie Blues

You guys actually pay attention to what he writes?

          • MichiganGoat

            It’s entertaining

        • Die hard

But this doesn’t give Sveum a free pass– it’s the Marlins for freak sake

        • Drew7

Try *1 hour* before he posted that.

  • Chuckles

Can we play the entire season as a Marlins series?

  • Timothy Scarbrough

I was in a discussion of the best gifs ever. I discovered this gif. At least we aren’t Steve Lyons. http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-IFotQEFGoMI/USJn-hv9III/AAAAAAAAJ2s/GI973kjBKos/s1600/Steve+Lyons+Pants+gif.gif

    • Rcleven

I remember that game. Saw it live. Lyons really was a flake.

  • Rebuilding

I think it’s time to tell Camp thanks for gutting it out last year and let him be a pitching instructor in Arizona. Everything at this point is smoke and mirrors. The strikeout of Stanton was a nice comeback by him though

  • Die hard

Well found a team we can score 4 runs against — is that all ? Should be 7-10 runs a game against them… Not a contender yet Marlon

    • Kubphan82

You’re right the marlins have played the Nationals twice, Braves, Reds, Phillies and somehow managed a 4.66 team era and the Cubs should score 7+ game! ROFLMAO….

I know the 4.66 is bad, but come on celebrate the win and the runs scored… Looking at the Marlins games the go two games of giving up 5 runs and then get blasted in one other game… It’s happened in several series, so take the 4 runs an enjoy it.

    Advanced Box Score

A 1,2,3 9th inning. Is that the first time this year for the cubs? Thanks to Kevin Gregg the cubs notched a save without having to stress at all. I still believe Russell should have had a chance, but a win is a win. The Defense was great tonight thanks to Darwin Barney showing off his leaping abilities. Barney probably had the best all-around game for the Cubs today going 3-3 at the plate as well. Rizzo was the other impact player crushing a couple 2-run homers against a lefty RizzOMG!!!!! Just wait until the BABIP catches up for him. He may turn hot and carry this offense soon. Same goes to Soriano who hasn’t really shown up yet this year. Sappelt has been turning around his slow start lately. I wonder if he finally got the memo that if he doesn’t start hitting then he may get the boot. Lastly, Scott Feldman finally had a good start out on the mound. He had his groundball pitch working tonight and his curveball really froze a few hitters. My shout out goes to Darwin Barney for his spectacular defense and 3-3 game. Rizzo brought in 4 runs, but Barney will be the less mentioned hero in this one. If there is any questions on ABs, I will be tracking them whenever possible. If you have a question during a game feel free to ask me on twitter @Zogie. Also, I am sorry for not posting these lately. I have just finished up student teaching, so now, I should have more time for you bleacher bums.
