marlins home run sculptureThe Cubs can lock up a series win today by taking down the Marlins for the third straight day. It would also be their first three-game winning streak since … uh … I would actually have to check.

Travis Wood is looking to add a fifth consecutive great start to his 2013 season. They can’t all be gems, but you’d certainly hope he could do it against this team in this ballpark.

Austin Kearns, who still plays baseball, is going to have a good game today. He always does against the Cubs, however far from the promise of his early career he has drifted.

Wow. I’ve actually heard of over half of Miami’s starting lineup today.

  • Stephen

I have been following your blog since this winter. Just wanted to say you do a very good job and keep it going. I can always rely on you for my obsessive Cubs news updates.

      Thanks, Stephen. I appreciate that.

Thanks, Jacob. Very kind of you.

Another fairly quiet follower here. There’s hardly anything you write I disagree with. Thanks for keeping followers like us well informed! Keep up the awesome work!

Thanks for this, by the way.

And on a separate note, I had an idea I’m sure you’ve heard before to some extent. I’ve seen that you’ve kicked around the idea of a Bleacher Nation App, but don’t want to be exactly the same as the actual site. For an iPhone user like me, I’ve placed a bookmark on my phone to this website (which immediately found its way to my front page) and know its possible for you to add a logo on the icon for anyone who does set it as a bookmark (as I’ve seen done to my church’s website). Perhaps this could be a good way to make a precursor to a BN “app”, make it look somewhat professional, and add more views to the site? Again, just an idea I had because I love the site so much and hope it succeeds.

I think he meant continues to succeed.

    • http://www.bleachernation.com Brett

I’ll have to look into that. Thanks, Josh.

Luke, Brett. Anyone know why Vogelbach was pulled today in the 5th inning? It wasn’t due to facing a lefty, no lefties tonight for the opposition not to mention that’s why there in th minors?

        • http://www.bleachernation.com Luke

I don’t know of any reasons yet. I’ll keep a eye/ear out, though.

          • Jp3

Thanks bud, quick response as always

          • Jp3

Dillon Maples threw 3 innings K-ing 5 tonight in Arizona fwiw. Good to see him throwing more innings and pitches per start I guess

            • http://www.bleachernation.com Luke

I don’t think there is any reason to worry on Maples yet. Yes, he only has 10 professional innings, but the reasons for that are legitimate and aren’t anything that makes me think he’s a long-term chronic injury risk. His pitching motion has me a little concerned, but it is too early to say for sure that’ll be a problem.

I’m looking forward to seeing what he can do in Boise later this summer.

              • Jp3

Yeah I worded it weird but I was actually encouraged with his 3 inning outing because he started in Arizona throwing 1 inning, then went to 1.2 innings and now 3 in his latest start. I’m more encouraged with him than Garza….

  • willis

Wood needs to keep attacking. If the lineups he’s faced to this point haven’t figured him out, this one shouldn’t either. I’ll say he’s won me over and I enjoy watching his starts. Let’s get another W.

  • Die hard

Sveum smart in playing same lineup as much as possible to foster camaraderie cohesiveness and continuity which will show up in the little things like batters picking each other up and defenders helping each other cover more of the field thru sensing what other will do

    • MichiganGoat

Coming from a guy that talks about radical roster, lineup, and positional changes weekly – this was quite humorous

        Two words… Gastro-Intestinal Fortitude…

        • DarthHater

          abdominal combustion

          • Bric

            Booyah!

  • Bric

Austin Kearns?! What about Placido Palanco? That jackass has been haunting the Cubs since the Reagan Administration.

  • Rizzo44

Rizzo 3-4 again tonight, 2 HR sounds good. Right? Go Cubs!

    • cubzfan23

I would take 2 1b’s and a 2b from rizzo… He’s having issues hitting something other than homers

  • Alex S

I feel crazy saying this, but Valbuena has become one of my favorite players on this team. Two hits tonight, and that’s great and all, but what’s more satisfying is that he’s seen 12 pitches on the way to those two knocks.

Why is Hairston still in baseball? Just awful!
