Quantcast

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: minor league teams know how to do promotions. And Kane County has an awesome one coming up in three days: Star Wars Night.

There will be Star Wars-themed entertainment, and folks are encouraged to dress up as their favorite Star Wars character. The best part? The players and field staff will be wearing these jerseys:

Cougars Star Wars Jersey

CHEWBACCAAAAAAAA!

Just try getting away with that at Wrigley Field. Should be a great time on Saturday night. Kudos to Kane County for having a little fun on the Fourth.

    Want.

This is even better than the Hawks gear.

    • cub4life

gotta have……..do you think that they might consider selling these at some point??????

      • King Jeff

The Toledo Mud Hens did a similar promotion with the same jerseys over the weekend. They are auctioning them off for charity later this week, I’m sure that Kane County has something similar in mind. Here is the link for the Mud Hens auction. http://www.milb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20130425&content_id=45776140&fext=.jsp&vkey=news_t512&sid=t512

        • King Jeff

Just checked, they said you were able to buy the jerseys either during the game, or later at a silent auction, for the MudHens at least. Like I said, I think that Kane County will probably have a similar setup.

The fact that you included the song from Clerks makes this post infinitely better!

    • cubchymyst

I didn’t initial click the CHEWBACCAAAAAA link until you mentioned Clerks. Was well worth the click.

  • Cubbie Blues

Thanks Bert, that’s 1:48 that I’ll never get back. :P

  • TWC

And in an attempt to match the big league team’s offense, the Cougars will be replacing their wooden bats with toy lightsabers.

    • http://www.bleachernation.com Brett

Real lightsabers would be just as ineffective …

      • TWC

Pfft. If they had *real* lightsabers, they’d be *Jedis*, and they’d use the force to move the ball. I mean, duh, Ace.

        • http://www.bleachernation.com Brett

Nope. Rule 8.5(a)(iii) requires that a batter, in order to qualify for a hit, “make contact with the ball by way of a wooden bat or salted ham only.” I could make an argument that a lightsaber is close enough to a bat or a ham, but using force power clearly falls outside the rule.

          • Cubbie Blues

            TWC just got lawyered.

          • TWC

            ::waves hand::

These are not the rules you’re looking for…

          • King Jeff

            Don’t worry, Chewy’s got this

          • hansman1982

Then it depends on the modern day usage of the term “salted ham”. If we get enough people to refer to the “Force” as “salted ham” we can do this promotion in 2043.

            • Nomar’s Left Glove

….yes, but “may the salted ham be with you” really lacks something. Do you think that we could continue with this line of logic under the context that Vogelbach, himself, is a salted ham? If he uses the force, it might be enough to bridge the “must make contact with a salted ham” argument. Honestly, Rock Shoulders has such a cool name, he should be exempt from any rules.

              • DarthHater

Just get him to change his name to Pork Shoulders and – voila! – you’ve got your ham.

          • JulioZuleta

…does “salted ham” really mean a salted ham?

        • Cubbie Blues

Since they are Cubs and not Bears wouldn’t they be Padawans and not Jedis? Therefor not all would be able to use the force.

          • TWC

Come *on*, man. You don’t graduate from Youngling status to Padawan status if you can’t wield the Force.

            • Cubbie Blues

You can if your *Master* is the Tribune Company.

              • MichiganGoat

                Good… I can feel you hate…

btw this is a great thread, just what I needed after a frustrating day

                • cub4life

                  possibly the greatest thread EVER!

    • Cubbie Blues

Swinging bunt for everyone. They can call it Tony Campana night.

  • MichiganGoat

The West Michigan Whitecaps do this every year and its great fun, they bring in some brigade of people that have really authentic uniforms and my kids love all the ewoks that show up. Last year there was a large group of people in Mandalorian armor that they forged and build themselves. I’ve always considered myself a fan of Star Wars but its not until you witness how far the fandom goes that you realize just how casual a fan you really are. If you’ve never experienced this you must check it out its worth every penny (and since A games are dirt cheap its even better).

Oh best part is that the bar was always playing the Mos Eisley Cantina music.

    • King Jeff

I remember seeing this event last year, and that Darth Vader has the hardest breaking slider in the business.

This. This is what the doctor ordered today.

  • Webb

Thanks for tweeting Bret! My Saturday plans have just been re-booked. I’ll give a shout out to you at the box office when I’m at the game. Good work.

    • http://www.bleachernation.com Brett

Nice. Hope it’s a blast – looks like it will be.

      • macpete22

Might be headed to the game as well

  • willis

    This idea is awesome.

Speaking of KC, Pierce Johnson balled out again tonight.

  • Will

My son is a Star Wars baby. He will be 2 on the 4th. Would be neat to get him a Chewbacca jersey.
