St_Louis_CardinalsHistorically, when the Cubs have had a two-game series, I do a (theoretically humorously) abbreviated version of the Series Preview. On one level, it pains me to give the first Cubs/Cardinals series of the year short shrift. And it’s not like I’m a slave to tradition. But this is a tradition that I’ve always kind of liked, so I’m sticking with it. Judge away …

We’re Going Streaking

The Cubs have a winning streak of one.

The Cardinals streak like Will Ferrell in ‘Old School.’

Game Times and Broadcasts

  • Tuesday, May 7 at 7:05 CT on WGN.
  • Wednesday, May 8 at 1:20 CT on CSN.

Lineups

The Cardinals’ lineup is probably better than the Cubs’, but it will be much uglier.

Hot?

Travis Wood. Anthony Rizzo. Luis Valbuena. Lance Lynn. The back of my toaster oven.

Not?

Welington Castillo. Darwin Barney. My super sexy sunburned forehead.

Series She-View

It’s not really happening in a Short Series Preview (though you are welcomed to start one up over at the Message Board), so, instead, here’s that funny morans picture:

So… your sunburned forehead is not hot??? that’s kind of an oxy-moran.

Hot to the touch and hot in effect … but not so hot to look at.

I’m sure it accents your hair very nicely.

Just to try & make a few points when assessing who goes to the bullpen when Garza comes back to the rotation. To me, Jackson is the obvious choice at this point in time. He has been running into a “bad” inning almost every start this year & it usually comes in his first 4 innings.
He is basically a 2 pitch pitcher (fastball/slider) anyway with an above average K/W ratio.
Sounds like a set up/closer guy to me.
He also has a 4 year deal & was not signed to be flipped this year anyway. Feldman, Garza, & Villanueva are your flip candidates & need to remain in the rotation until the trade deadline. As far as what his salary is that factor is immaterial for this argument. There are plenty of $10 million plus starters who have been sent to the bullpen to get things together & then come back to start with a degree of success.

      I agree.

    • Rcleven

As much as I agree so many things can happen in a two week period before Garza returns.
Why should management cross that bridge before they have to?

    • Drew7

Gotta think that would make it tough to get those Free-Agents all you guys are calling for. Who wants to sign with the team that banishes you to the ‘pen after a half-dozen starts?

  • IndyCubsFan

Brett-when talking about Rizzo, any way you could get a picture of Rizzo (the rat from the Muppets) wearing a Cubs hat? I think it would be amazing! Thanks, Management :)

  • StillCubsFan

Any idea what happened to Feldman’s hand? It looked like he left the game yesterday because of an injury…

    • Koyie Hill Sucks

Hand cramps, hopefully it was just that…

      • Cubbie Blues

That’s kinda funny coming from Koyie Hill.

        • cas-castro

he may have been taking pointers from Big Z on how to avoid cramps…

      • Rcleven

Watched Feldman in the post game and he was laughing it off.
Finger locked up and he couldn’t bend it.
He was able to bend the finger at the post game.

    go usa!

The day has arrived. IMHO should be a national holiday every year. Must say that I was looking for more meat on the preview. Hoping to join the game thread later to provide the sorely-needed counterpoint to the depraved and abuse-tolerant fan base here. Brett – congrats on your continued success.

    Let the abuse fly…

What’s so funny about that morans picture? I don’t get it.

      Heh. I know you.
