wrigley field from right bleachersIt’s the second of three consecutive night games against the Rockies at Wrigley Field, and here’s hoping tonight looks a lot like last night. The Stache (Carlos Villanueva, for the uninitiated) could very well be pitching for his rotation spot in this one (heck, he might lose it even if he dominates).

Jeff Francis is on the other side, a lefty, and David DeJesus gets the start in center field and in the leadoff spot. This comes just a couple days after Dale Sveum essentially said that Starlin Castro would be his leadoff man against lefties. What up with that? Francis has a pretty standard lefty/righty split, so it isn’t that. Unless there has been some front office dictation here, I don’t really like or agree with this. DeJesus was doing very well facing only righties.

  • Mike

Yeah, I don’t know why Sveum just doesn’t put Borbon in center, as he has hit decently against lefties. Don’t really get the Castro not-batting-leadoff against Francis tonight, either.

  • mick6x

    Whatever happened to Tyler Colvin?

    • Mike

He’s playing at AAA, along with LeMahieu.

      • mick6x

Didn’t he rake for them last year??

        • DocPeter Wimsey

Colvin raked for a few weeks in May and June before returning to his AAAA self.

        • jt

Colvin was consistently in the 0.800’s for the year of 2012
His home/away splits was rather dramatic though as his OPS at Coors was 0.345 higher than away with similar amounts of PA’s.

        • ssckelley

In Coors Field he did but on the road he was horrible.

  • Kygavin

Castro’s low OBP makes it tough to have him lead off even against lefties

    • http://www.bleachernation.com Brett

      Career OBP against lefties: .367.

  • http://bleachernation.com someday…2015?

Just moved to the west coast. WGN is nice, but missing all these games is tough. For the people who use MLB.TV, is it worth it?

    • TWC

Yes. The only games I can’t watch are the 6 against the Giants. Totally worth it.

      • http://bleachernation.com someday…2015?

Thanks TWC… Why would you not be able to watch the 6 games against the Giants? Blackouts?

        • TWC

Yep. Not sure where you moved, but if it’s SoCal, you’re probably blacked out for LA teams. NorCal blacks you out of SF & Oakland games. Not really sure what the dividing line is.

          • http://bleachernation.com someday…2015?

I’m actually about ten minutes off the strip in Nevada. I think the LA and SD games were available last night, not sure though.

            • TWC

Hmm… you might be in a blackout free zone. Unless AZ is blacked out?

Regardless, it’s still pretty worth it.

              • http://bleachernation.com someday…2015?

Ah, well I guess I’m going to find out. Thanks again.

One of the best buys I have made. I always wanted to get it but didn’t think it was worth it. I bought it one week into the season and I think I already got my money’s worth!

I basically only watch Cub game but it’s cool I can switch to any game, so whenever that inevitable no-hitter/perfect game comes i’ll just switch to that broadcast.

              • hansman1982

From what I can tell, the only blackout free area in the Lower 48 is about a half hour drive west of Miami.

MLB.tv is awesome if you have a fast internet connection. If you don’t, you’ll probably want to spend a few extra bucks to get it upgraded.

      • Anonnifan

Its as good as High def Tv with a 20 mbps DSL streamed to my Blu-Ray. In my experience, streaming it to a TV or other Internet Equipped multi-media device rather than a computer really increases the quality. I’m not sure why. Does anyone else have similar experiences?

        • jt

          ROKU works for me.

  • Spencer

What’s up with it is that Dale Sveum has a really bad habit of saying stuff and not following through with it or changing it up. I like DeJesus getting as many at bats as possible. He will still have disciplined at bats and see a lot of pitches.

  • cooter

I watch mlb package on direct tv and didn’t get blacked out for the Giants games. I’m about an hour north west of you.

  • Koyie Hill Sucks

    Jeff Francis 15 4 1 1 0 0 1 4 .267 .313 .467 .779
    Jon Garland 46 11 1 0 0 2 2 4 .239 .286 .261 .547

That is Dejesus’ line versus Francis and Garland, maybe the sit him tomorrow?
    Can’t think of another reason..

  • David

Better trade value for Dejesus if better vs. lefties.

  • Koyie Hill Sucks

Cubs making Francis look like he’s Cy Young material… Harirston struck out on 3 pitches, on 3 pitches! I’ve just about had my fill of seeing Hairston suck at the plate…

  • X the Cubs Fan

This is pretty random but if Gray gets picked by the Astros the Cubs should definitely pick Kris Bryant. Just imagine all the power in the lineup for 2015. (Soler, Baez, Rizzo, Bryant, Almora, Castro, Castillo and B-Jax)

    • Koyie Hill Sucks

I doubt B-Jax ever becomes a starting OF for the Cubs. If just one out of Soler, Baez and Almora make it it would be great. I doubt all 3 make it or live up to their potential.

    • Die hard

That’s what have been saying for weeks because when Jumbotron erected and whatever goes in right field it will cut down wind blowing in which is half the games and thus making the park homer heaven on all days — other teams will be loading up on sluggers and so should Cubs

      • Pat

Actually, it will not cut down the wind. That’s kind of impossible to do. It will redirect it, but all that means is stronger currents above, below, and to either side of the jumbotron. It will help some shots get out, but help knock down others.

  • another JP

Just send Camp off to the glue factory already… send Marmol too and they’d have a year’s worth of raw material.

  • ssckelley

Camp is not fooling anybody, his pitches are hanging over the plate. I think it is time he is designated for assignment and give someone else a chance.
