us cellular fieldThe Crosstown Classic is here!

Did you notice?

It pains me to be sarcastic about what was once a huge event in Chicago, but the cachet simply isn’t there this year. Whether it’s the five straight down seasons for the Cubs, or the general apathy on the South Side, there doesn’t seem to be a whole lot of pep for the series this year. Maybe Jeff Samardzija will throw a no-hitter tonight, and folks will get excited.

Scott Hairston draws the opening DH job for the Cubs, rather than Alfonso Soriano, who is starting in left field. Julio Borbon starts in center field against a lefty, rather than David DeJesus, and Ryan Sweeney starts in right field, rather than Nate Schierholtz. The Cubs are clearly protecting the lefty side of their platoons, which is fine with me.

Why is Castro batting behind Borbon again?! Of course Julio’s not gonna go 4for4 but if he gets on base once or twice, Castro is not gonna let him steal. He has even worse plate discipline in that situation…..Does anyone remember when Campana went hot for 2 weeks and Castro was not letting him get a chance to steal at all? I always felt that Castro didn’t want to let Campana pass him in the lead for steals. Anybody else?

  • nick

Scott Hairston is our DH? Boy is this bad

    • nkniacc13

well he’s likely to be playing tomorrow so maybe this is to get him 2 games in a row.

      • CeeDeeVee5811

He also might be a worse defender than Sori.

  • mudge

Will be a good night for Hairston.

  • DaveY

Nice promo by WGN for Eight Men Out.

  • DaveY

Looks like Hawk is going full Ditka with those glasses.

  • Ryan

Hawk just said after 1000 more at bat gillaspie will be the best fastball hitter in the A.L. How do sox fans take this guy seriously?!?!

  • Clark Addison

Sux announcers are on their best behavior. Actually saying nice things about the Cubs. Could it be because they know their audience is about 4 times greater than usual?

    • BT

Hawk says the 7-0 score, in which the Sox have 1 hit, is “misleading”.

      • Dynastyin2017

He did say the Sox were getting out hit, out pitched, and out fielded, so he’s not as bad as usual.

        • BT

He did, but that was later, after a couple more 1-2-3 innings.

  • college_of_coaches

Welly has walked in the past four games that he’s played in; one walk for the rest of the season.

  • Vulcan

There’s no way the Bullpen can give up this big lead. Right?…Right?…

    • Dynastyin2017

Not if don’t let them touch the ball.

  • Clark Addison

Another stupid send by Bell. Is he watching the same game we are?

    • Blublud

Bell has done a horrible job this season. I have no clue what the hell he I’d watching sometimes.

      • Blublud

  • DocPeterWimsey

C’mon, ChiSox pitchers, save some of these hanging breaking balls and so-badly-missed-pitches-that-Castillo-won’t-even-swing-at-them for tomorrow!

  • Stu

Holy Cow!! The Cubs who have to lose, to sell-off, to gain draft picks, are dominating a team?

  • Clark Addison

Sux are worse than even the Cubs at swinging at first pitches.

Smars’s stuff is filthy. Fast with movement.

  • Ed

What do you guys like of Len and I’d so far this year?

  • Ed

  • mudge

The highlight for me this evening? Hairston’s sac fly. Very, very impressive.

  • Can’t think of a cool name

Who thinks that White Sux fan Jimmy who comments here will show up tonight?

I’d be fine if the next one was Shark in the 2015 World Series.
